Mrs. Jaguar, Sydney Age and Occupation: 27, Primary School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT Consultant Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2011 Venue: Curzon Hall About Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!

You and Me: Lullabies & Crazy Love

September 29th, 2011 @ 1:53 pm by Mrs. Jaguar

It was hard, hard work choosing a song for the father-daughter dance. Choosing a dance for Mr. Jaguar and me was easy—but for my dad? I struggled. My one request was that the song wasn’t a country music song, because I’ve heard one at nearly every wedding we’ve ever been to. My suggestions were upbeat, with my two favourites being “My Girl” by the Temptations and “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles. He didn’t have any connections to those songs, and shot them down. After a lot of coming and going, he sent me one option that I quite loved: “Lullaby“ by Billy Joel. And so, it was.

We swayed for a while, and I can’t for the life of me recall any particular conversations we might have had—but it was lovely. The nerves I had of dancing in front of people had dissipated after Mr. Jaguar’s and my first dance, and I enjoyed the moments spent dancing with my daddy.

I had arranged that during one of the instrumentals of the song, we’d have Mr. Jaguar and his mother invited to take the floor with us—this worked out beautifully.

And afterward, during another instrumental, the emcee invited the rest of our bridal-party couples out onto the floor to sway with us for the final few moments of the song.

As the song concluded, we decided to put on a nice jazzy number to encourage folks young and old to join us on the dance floor. My pick? “Crazy Little Thing Called Love“—the Buble version. And, lo and behold, it worked! Our dance floor was PACKED! Is my nanna not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?

And best of all? I managed to keep Mr. Jaguar, Mr. “I don’t dance EVER” Jaguar, out on the floor for just awhile longer. Huzzah!

We were ready to REALLY get the party started!

Let’s start at the very beginning—it’s a very good place to start.
Our wedding rehearsal went by in a flash.
We finished off our last-minute projects at home.
I had some girly time the day before the wedding.
I checked into the bridal suite and spent the evening alone.
A prank call woke me up…to my wedding day!
The girls had their hair and makeup done.
The boys relaxed and took it easy playing pool.
It was finally my turn to get beautified!
The boys suited up and looked legen…wait for it…dary.
I put my dress on and became a bride.
My bridesmaids and I rush, rush, rushed to the church and arrived early!
The wedding began with a processional…
And the Jaguars were wed.
Our guests waved us out of the church with our homemade ribbon wands.
We took some bridal snapshots in the wind and rain.
I took a few moments with my new husband, just him and me.
Our bridal party posed with us as the daylight began to fade.
We relaxed in the bridal suite…and I got sewn into my wedding dress!
All of our wedding details came together beautifully.
The Jaguar bridal party made their way into our reception…
And on the way there, I took a tumble and landed on my butt!
We were spoiled with gorgeous speeches from our loved ones.
Mr. Jaguar and I snuck out to take some evening portraits.
We got tangled up in champagne toasts and cut our lovely cake.
Our first dance, to “You and Me,” was a bumbling success.

beautiful!! that song has always been one of my favorites. i remember grooving in the car to the river of dreams tape in the car with my mom when i was little. i love it to death but i would NOT be able to make it through that whole song without sobbing hysterically. tears are okay with me… but i think this would be too much! we’ll see what my dad thinks- but i suspect he’d rather do a more upbeat song!

@September29: That whole album is awesome. Seriously awesome. I was surprised that he chose the slower song over an upbeat one - but that was his choice, so we went with it! :)

@Roux: Thank you so much! xx

Lullaby is my top pick for the father-daughter dance but I haven’t talked to him about it yet. We are both really awkward when it comes to displays of affection between us so I’m nervous about the whole thing. But it looks like yours went swimmingly! Might have to steal the Buble idea! :)

Lovely song choice! I really wish we were doing our first dance at the beginning of the dance time, rather than before dinner, so we could do the transition songs to keep people on the floor. But… Mr. Ladyfingers wanted it the way we’re doing it, so que sera, sera!
