Miss Doily's Picture
Miss Doily, Cedar Rapids, Iowa Age and Occupation: 25, Autism Paraeducator/ Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Freelance Writer/ Publisher Engagement Date: August 27th, 2010 Wedding Date: March 2012 Venue: Father’s Vineyard Church/ A Touch of Class Banquet Center About Me: I’m an Iowan girl with a deep love of Harry Potter, classic movies, cardigans, and Post-Its. My type-A Virgo tendencies often cause me to drive my laid-back college sweetheart fiance batty with lists and PowerPoint presentations. I love to be crafty and do things myself, which explains why my two crazy kittens often will prance around the house covered in glitter and ribbons. When I am not bogged down with work, school, or wedding planning, I like to travel to visit my expansive family and have wild adventures with my best friends. After a rollercoaster ride of a love story, I’m ready to take that final plunge, marry the love of my life, and become a Mrs.!

Leaving Their Mark

September 30th, 2011 @ 2:10 pm by Miss Doily

With the majority of the ceremony planning behind me, I suppose it’s time to start showing you all the things Mr. D and I have started to work on for the reception. There was one project in particular that I started on shortly after we got engaged because I simply could not wait any longer to do it. That, my friends, would be the guestbook. There are so many clever ideas out there for personalized guestbooks. I wanted to make sure that we had a guestbook that would capture our day in a way that we would remember forever. I wanted to give our guests a chance to say something meaningful and do it in a fun way. Which is why, when I saw these bad boys, I knew I had to have them:

How fun do these look? It gives guests the chance to doodle, write, scribble, and be super creative. It’s a very awesome way of leaving their mark on our wedding day. But when I looked at the prices of these custom pages, they were outside of what I wanted to spend on a guestbook. So I went straight to DIY’ing it.

I searched high and low for awesome fonts. The sites that I found had the best selection of free fonts were dafont, 1001 Free Fonts, and free fonts! from kevinandamanda.com (which has a lot of fun doodles and handwriting fonts). Then I got out my PowerPoint and started moving stuff around. Finally, after several days of work, I finished our guestbook layouts. Here is what we came up with:

This is the front of our guestbook page. (Personal photo)

I really love how they turned out. They are slightly crooked thanks to my scanning job (my hard drive just crashed with all of my electronic copies on it, but luckily I had hard copies of this). We are going to put little Mason jars of markers on all of the tables for the guests to doodle on these pages. I can’t wait to see what some of our guests write on them. I know that the personalities of some of our wedding attenders are going to make for some very interesting pictures and advice.

What kind of guestbook did you go for? Did you do it yourself or buy it? If you did DIY it, was the stress worth it?

Those are so cute!! I really want to do that for the guestbook as well but I am afraid the guests will not want to fill out all that info. I would but I like to fill out things lol. So it will probably be this or a coffee table book of New Orleans for people to sign.

I am looking for steroids on internet but i am not sure which are good or scam?
Is there any good products on market?
I found one on internet and they look legit + informative. Please check and let me hear your comments.

five years ago I bought a book from them for my sisters shower I threw… and if I knew then what I do now I could have made it for pennies…. but I was in high school and my mom paid for it. I totally thought of making my own… good job girl!

Those are sooo cute! I was literally just gathering guest book inspiration this morning, but this idea trumps all the other stuff I found. I might just be stealing this!

@natbug21 I’m planning to do something similar to Miss Doily’s guestbook too, but I had the same concern you did- that my guests aren’t the type to take time to fill out the whole page. So I plan to make mini versions of these pages with only one or two questions per sheet. Some people would be more apt to draw the picture, so they’ll take the sheet with that “question” on it. While other guests are more excited about sharing their favorite old memory, so they’ll take that sheet. In theory, the guests could take multiple sheets, but I’m not sure if that will happen. Just wanted to share this idea with you so you aren’t completely discouraged from pursuing this same idea that Miss Doily did.
