The Ones That Weren’t

September 30th, 2011 @ 12:31 pm by Miss Fox

So now that I’ve told you about my dress (!!!), I thought I’d share a few more dresses that didn’t make the cut. I mean, who doesn’t love a little more wedding dress porn? I know I do!

Part 1 brought me to Village Bridals, Macy’s, and David’s Bridal.

Part 2 was a pretty extensive look at the David’s Bridal collection.

The very first dress I tried on at DB was what I like to call the “mullet dress.”

Oh, baby! Are you nervous yet?

Anyway, being serious. It’s actually called a high-low hemline, because the front is shorter than the back. This dress looked so freaking cute on the model, and I thought that if I got this dress (for really cheap), I could get a kick ass pair of heels (hiii Louboutins). The front looks real cute, right?

However. Different story from the side view. For my first magic trick, I will turn to the side and show you my thick, ever expanding torso.

Yeah. It’s not that bad, but hive? I’m not that big. And the dress size was definitely right. It just made me look like I weighed 100 pounds more than I already do, and I’m trying to lose weight even now. So…no. This was not going to work.

The next dress I rather liked. It fit me pretty well, but I knew it wasn’t the one. Also…when I previously showed Mr. Foxy a picture of the dress on the model, he said it looked like a nightgown.

I’ll admit, he did have a point.

I went on try on a few more dresses at DB, which were so bad that they didn’t even warrant pictures. This was one of them:

Oleg Cassini CRL277

I already have a pearish shape, but I seriously looked like a big ol’ pear in this dress. A big, albino pear. No thank you. (Also? Foxy thinks all lace looks like a doily. I wasn’t really letting that rule my decision, but I didn’t want him to just see doilyness on our wedding day.)

Thus ended the David’s Bridal extravaganza.

Onto RK Bridal: I honestly don’t know the majority of the dresses I tried on there, in part because we weren’t allowed to take pictures of me in them and in part because some of them were huge misses. However, the one that was a big contender and competing with my winning Allure dress was this one:

Maggie Sottero style RD1068

I actually had this gem in my dress inspiration section of my wedding binder for a while. Gorgeous. I liked this one about as much as I liked the Demetrios 3137 dress…high up there, but wasn’t getting that warm fuzzy feeling.

And that, my friends, sums up my wedding-dress search! I probably tried on a total of about 25–30 dresses before I found mine. How many dresses did you/have you already tried on?

I tried on about 20 dresses at 4 different bridal salons but nothing compared to the one I picked. It was exactly what I wanted.

You tell Foxy that there is nothing wrong with doilyness!!! :) These dresses are pretty, but I’m sure the one you picked out surpassed all these in beauty!

I probably tried on like 30 dresses. I didn’t even count. Just try try try!

That first one is cute, but yeah… totally doesn’t flatter you! Do girls have to be stick thin for that to work? And the nightgown was cute too! You have such a nice back! :)

I tried on maybe…12 or so. That high low is different. I am excited to see the one you picked!

I tried on the same two dresses at DB! The high/low is so cute on models and from the front, but yeah, from the side, not so much!

I tried on about 10 or so at 2 bridal shops before I picked The Dress…a Maggie Sottero creation.

Oh my gosh…ever since I read the part about the mullet dress, I have had Billy Ray Cyrus Achy Breaky Heart stuck in my head. Hilarious! I tried on some dresses that were flat out ridiculous, I looked awful. I thought there was no end in sight until I finally found my dress. I think I tried on about 15 dresses.

I tried on so many dresses, probably about 100 due to Running of the Brides. And that first dress is so deceiving, it should be more figure flattering!

I loved the look of the final two dresses - shame there are no pics!
Actually, the mullet dress would have been lovely on you, if it had either been a regular tea length OR a regular floor length gown. It just does not work as a hi-lo.

Haha, the mullet dress is so funny! It’s strange how different it looks from the front and side. I still think you’re such a tease for not showing us your dress! I’m on pins and needles!

@Miss Doily: Oh don’t you worry, I did ;) I actually totally love lacy dresses - I just couldn’t find one that I adored in my budget!
@Miss Funnel Cake: Yea I don’t understand that dress. Such a bummer because it’s adorable.
@Mrs. Pony: You go, girlfraaand. I was overwhelmed with 30 dresses, I can’t imagine 100! Although I always wanted to do the Running of the Brides ;)
@Mrs. Jaguar: My mom actually REALLY wanted the Maggie Sottero one to be “the one”!
@Mrs. Parasol: I promise I won’t make you wait until June!!

So far i’ve tried on fiive dresses. An Aline, ballgown, princess, trumpet, and as you call it, the mullet dress, lol.

Mostly to prove to my fiance that I can indeed wear something other than a ballgown and not look like I am wearing a sheet, nightgown, doilie, or whatever else he came up with the diss non-ballgowns.

I have to agree that the mullet dress made me look huge! I didn’t even bother leaving the dressing room, lol.

And with just those 5 dresses I decided that I need a drop waist or something to the liking. Sad day for the fiance, lol.

You look gorgeous and I am positive that you will be double-ie so in The One. =)

I love the look of the high-low dress from the front, but so weird that it looks that unflattering from the side. Too bad!!

I think I probably tried on 15-20 dresses - funny enough, I didn’t really keep count! Some I put on and didn’t even leave the dressing room, as I knew immediately without even looking at them that they were not “the ONE!”

The M’ dress is hiiiiilarious!!!! You make Joe Dirt proud! I thought that dress was so chic and really cute until I saw it on a real model! I feel for you sister, trying to lose weight and then putting on some gross number that takes away from all your hard work is NOT cool. You’re going to be a beautiful bride in a dress that makes you feel off the charts gorgeous! Thanks for showing us what NOT to do!
