Beauty Concerns of a Psuedo-Tomboy

September 30th, 2011 @ 11:18 am by Mrs. Skunk

Makeup on the big day is a given. And I’ve taken y’all’s concerns into mind and visited the MAC counter for a nice little consultation. But honestly, my real beauty concerns can’t be fixed with makeup.

First of all, I have constant bloodshot eyes. I won’t gross you out with pictures of my eyes, but I’m consistently asked if I’m getting enough sleep. After a visit to the eye doctor, I was given a prescription for an incredibly expensive eye drop. While I can’t afford the prescription right now, my remedy for the time being will be lots of glasses wearing, lots of sleep, and a supply of Visine for Contacts on the big day.

My next concern is my lips. I have a really bad habit of biting my lips. And I most certainly don’t drink enough water, so my lips are almost always chapped. Need proof?

In addition to making sure that I drink as much water as possible, I’m trying to make a habit of keeping this Joshua Tree balm in my pocket. (And hopefully out of the washer/dryer…admit it, how many tubes have you destroyed thanks to the dryer monster?)

And finally, my hands. As a climber, my hands are constantly peeling and covered in chalk. Lotion is a huge no-no. I don’t want soft hands. Really I just want a nice facade.

So my hand remedy? I think I’ll just make sure to wash my hands. And on the night before the wedding, we girls are having a slumber party complete with a nail-paintin’ sesh.

So, my concerns aren’t huge, but I want to be as Sunday-go-to-meetin’ ready as possible. What’re you doing to put the finishing touches on your look?

I have the same problem with my eyes! My eye doctor recommended over-the-counter artificial tears (not visene, which often dries my eyes out more) before she puts me on the Rx version. It’s still a little expensive, around $15, but should last you for a while.

I sort of wonder if they maybe misdiagnosed your eyes. I struggled with bloodshot eyes for several years and even gave up all makeup for a while because I thought it was maybe that that was irritating my eyes and my contacts. Then I learned that I have this thing called Giant Papillary Conjunctivitus which was a result of sleeping in my non-extended wear contacts. My eye doctor said its incredibly common among contact wearers. It can’t be cured, but the symptoms (aka the pain-it feels like something is always in your eye-and the red eyes) can be mitigated with a really inexpensive prescription (I think its one of the $4 ones). The only not great part of it is that you have to do drops 4x a day for 10 days and can’t wear your contacts during that time. Maybe you might want to ask about the possibility that that’s what’s going on so that you can enjoy your day (and honeymoon!) without worrying about glasses and bloodshot eyes.

As a gymnast, I totally understand chalk hands. And feet. My feet will need love before my wedding day.

Also try the contact solution Clear Care. My eyes used to get so red and dry and I couldn’t wear my contacts for a full day, but Clear Care saved my life! I have super sensitive eyes, but this stuff keeps the contacts feeling moist (hate that word) all day and I can wear them as long as I want and don’t have any redness. It has hydrogen peroxide and needs to sit for hours in the solution or else it burns, but seriously, so amazing! My doctor was no help, but a coworker told me about this and I love her for it.

I’m going to need to do something about my feet, more specifically toes. Dancing barefoot and on pointe for yearsss has left them.. gross. They will need some extra TLC! And.. is it weird I didn’t realize they make Visene for Contacts..? Where have I been?!

All great remedies, Skunk! My big wedding day remedy was trying to get rid of my tan lines–my poor bridal brain didn’t have room to freak out about anything else!
