Miss Fox's Picture
Miss Fox, Washington DC/Havre de Grace, MD Age and Occupation: 26, Massage Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Field Support Engineer Engagement Date: April 18, 2010 Wedding Date: June 2012 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m a dancer turned massage therapist who was born and raised in New York. Alas, true love has brought me “south” where I still maintain my penchants for pretty shoes, wine, crossword puzzles, cherry blossoms, and the Mets. I own more sunglasses than a normal person should and don’t eat red meat (though I make up for it by eating my weight in sushi). I tend to be a big planner who likes to get things started early, but generally end up being indecisive and procrastinating when it comes down to it. I have a (not so) secret crush on Chris Carrabba, but my loyalty and love ultimately goes to the future hubs, of course! Together, my Foxy man and I love to discuss (read: debate) politics and current events, have Mario Kart and Scrabble duels, and just laugh. A lot. We’re hoping and planning for a laid back, fun, summery, rustic vibe to our June wedding that will be genuinely “us” – that is, if we finally make some decisions. Huzzah!
About Miss Fox

I Did It!

September 30th, 2011 @ 7:09 am by Miss Fox

I bought a wedding dress! Already!! Well, technically my mom did, but it’s officially mine!

First, a recap:

I tried on several dresses in a relatively short time frame. I went shopping a total of four different times, with each one having something that I decided I could live with if I needed to.

The first option, if you recall, was Demetrios style GR181.

It fit fantastically and hugged me in all the right places and made me look sassy. The downfall, for me, was that it wasn’t really on par with the vibe we were going for with our wedding. If I were getting married in a church, maybe, but not for an outdoor wedding (which we’re having, BTW). So, while I still kept option one in the back of my mind, I knew it wasn’t the dress.

The second option was my favorite for a long time:
Demetrios style 3137.

I saw this one in a magazine and fell in love with it right off the bat. The actual dress I tried on was huge and a bit broken, so I know the fit and look would have been different than what is pictured above, but I still really liked it. I thought it was nice—the neckline and rouching were super flattering and the skirt was simple but structured, giving it a nice flow. The problem? It was a bit pricey and I wanted/needed my Foxy Mama to see me in it. I also never got “that feeling.” In all honesty, I was pretty sure it didn’t exist. Or I didn’t have a soul. One of those. Point is, looking back, I really really really really liked it, but love? I didn’t know the meaning of the word yet.

My search continued to David’s Bridal, in hopes of finding a nice dress for a cheaper price. I made two trips there, the second of which I never posted about because it was pretty lackluster. My favorite out of all those dresses was option three, DB style WG3077.

It was a great dress for a great price. Was I in love? No, not at all, but it could do if I needed it too. Such a crappy way of looking at a dress, huh?

A fourth option was also from DB, style ES9808.

Basic but really cute. And it had pockets, which I still think is the coolest thing ever. But the material was eh…not really what I was going for. It was nice, but…it just wasn’t it. I imagined liking it much more than I actually did.

Cue a wedding dress search hiatus (AKA two months). Foxy Mama and I spoke briefly about possibly looking at some dresses while I was in New York for Thanksgiving last year, especially since Macy’s at Herald Square has a Demetrios Bridal salon, complete with my 3137 dress that I wanted her to see. We ultimately decided to head out for a bit on Black Friday, with three places in mind: 1. RK Bridal, 2. Macy’s, 3. Alexander Boutique in Queens, where she bought her wedding dress.

Long story short, our first stop at RK Bridal was also the last; we ended up canceling the appointments at both Macy’s and Alexander’s.

Because yes, I found my dress!

The dress. Option five, number five with a bullet, the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.

Bahahahahahaha. I kid.

What, you didn’t think I’d give it up that easy, did you?? Patience, my bees, patience.

I will tell you that it’s by Allure. And it has everything. The deep sweetheart neckline, which was a must. The flowy chiffon fabric that flows when I walk. The V-drop in the back. And buttons. Buttons all. the. way. down. It’s my favorite part!!

Oh, and I can’t forget the shnazzy piece of hair bling my consultant “jacked” me up with:

Since the dress came in well under the $1,000 price point Foxy Mama gave me, I was able to get that too. Helloooo Swarovski crystals. Love you. In fact, I loved how my consultant gussied me up so much so that I am seriously considering being a short-haired bride. Never thought I’d say that, but I’m loving the way the hairpiece looks with the way my hair was styled then!

And remember that feeling I said I thought didn’t exist? Well, it does. I almost started crying because I loved the dress so much…I was that happy. I didn’t want to take the dress off. I just knew that it was the dress I’d get married in. And I knew that I didn’t want to look at one other wedding dress. I’m done. This is it. I’m officially in love.

Did you get that “feeling” when you found your wedding dress?

I know I did!! I put it on several times and kept comparing it to the other possible dress…but I just had a gut instinct that it was THE dress. No tears for me, though. Just “wow, this is THE dress!”

I didn’t get a “feeling”, but I couldn’t stop smiling and felt SO pretty, and knew that if I looked at any others none would compare in my mind to my dress, so I trusted those instincts and “said yes!”

i also tried on the db dress w/pockets. the material - for me too - was a dealbreaker. it sounds like a tarp when you walk! so plastic-y.

Yay, I can’t wait to see your dress!

I had a few contenders as well and was having a hard time deciding…

When I finally found the one for me there were no tears, just a huge sigh of relief!

@kappasweetiepie: I’d call that pretty darn close the “the” feeling - hooray!
@k8e: Perfect description - it was definitely plastic feeling to me too!
@TinyTina: I had a big sigh of relief, as well - it’s so hard when you have a bunch you really like.
@Kjaskevi: Eep really?! Too funny!

@Miss Honey: Huzzah for Allure! Their whole line really impresses me, especially for the cost.
@Mrs. Parasol: I promise, no!! I just couldn’t give it up just yet ;) I have a lot more blogging left to do, lol!

I LOVE Allure!! I was convinced I’d be an Allure bride. This was of course before I knew who Justin Alexander was. I still get a slight pang when I see the Allure Couture dress I almost bought 3 hours before we put down the payment for the JA dress…

I can’t wait to see yours. Tease!
