I try desperately to stay as busy as possible at all times (and am succeeding big time right now!) Mr. Cannon is pretty sweet, too. We've had a lot of fun traveling and having adventures all over the country, but have finally moved back near our hometown to settle down. We're planning a low-key, colorful, fun wedding and an awesome-to-the-max reception.

DIY Dump

September 20th, 2011 @ 1:50 pm by Mrs. Cannon

Hey guys, I’ve been working on some DIY stuff lately. None of it really needs enough explanation to warrant its own post, so here’s a conglomeration of recent wedding crafts:

First, string balls. Both Ms Ferris Wheel and Ms Honey have covered these pretty extensively, so I won’t bother. I used this tutorial and used some Sugar ’n Cream variegated yarns to make my colorful version:

Miss Kettle's Picture
Miss Kettle, Chicago, IL Age and Occupation: 26, Non-Profit Donor Resource Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Musician & Teacher Engagement Date: May 29, 2011 Wedding Date: February 2012 Venue: Patrick C. Haley Mansion, Joliet, IL About Me: I'm a city girl who loves a good escape, so I'm planning a Chicago wedding outside of the city. I've been described as a quirky yet down-to-earth drama queen who loves fiercely. I used to be a scientist, but now I'm learning to navigate the world of non-profit organizations. I love cooking, blogging, shopping, and music, and movies (Hans Zimmer is my favorite movie composer). Mr. Kettle and I had a short courtship and now we have a happy home with our cat-who-thinks-she's-people, Belle. We spend our days and nights with good food, live music, video games, family, and friends. Our wedding has become this wonderful excuse to bring together hundreds of people we can't bear to be without.
About Miss Kettle

Our first interview was so lovely! If y’all know me by now, y’all know I was ready to sign that day and forgo the other meetings. But, as usual, Mr. Kettle and Momma Kettle encouraged me to go to the other meeting I’d setup in order to “explore our options.” Whatever, we’ll go to the meeting and see what the other people have to say.

This first meeting was with The South Loop Floral & Events Gallery. They really have some beautiful stuff there.

I woke up late and still had to go pick up Grandmother Kettle. We didn’t get there until about 5:45. The appointment was at 5:00. On-time fail. When we arrived, Momma and Mima Kettle were both there, discussing some things with the florist. They hadn’t gotten to into though because they were waiting for me.

We dove right in and discussed so many things. I was in love in roses. I still am. There’s just one hiccup. My desire for a sea of roses for the wedding…?

Yeah, well, that didn’t seem to be a real possibility because roses apparently cost double around Valentine’s Day.

Bridesmaid Blues

September 20th, 2011 @ 12:53 pm by Miss Porcupine

I am having the bridesmaid blues…literally and figuratively, it seems.

On top of being really picky about bridesmaids’ dresses (nothing stands out to me), I cannot find the right shade of blue on the right dress. Yes, this sounds ridiculous, but here’s my problem.

On the rare occasion a designer has the right blue, they do not have it available in a dress I like. Most designers go with the standard royal, navy, teal, and baby blue. Those aren’t really my colors. I want deep blue and deep green. Navy can work, but I’m not ready to settle on navy yet. I have hope.

One Friday afternoon, on a glorious half-day summer Friday, a few of my bridesmaids who were also free (i.e., the teachers, nurse, and student) met up at RK Bridal in the city. We looked through the racks, and I picked a few dresses that I had already spotted online and also let the girls pick out what they liked as long as it stuck with the overall look I was going for.

I had previously thought my solution was found with Wtoo’s sapphire/emerald combo. I loved the colors together, and although it is simple I thought it had a unique look to it. The first bridesmaids’-dress fail, however, was seeing my very favorite dress from the interwebs off the rack. Apparently I forgot how different online vs. real life can be.

You Can Find Me on the Dance Floor

September 20th, 2011 @ 12:05 pm by Mrs. High Wire

When I imagine our wedding reception, I can’t stop thinking about one blaring image: A sweaty bride breaking it down on the dance floor.

Some people sink their time and energy into a super unique and personalized ceremony. Others slave over DIY flowers because they are the only ones who can guarantee their vision for floral arrangements. Me? I just want to dance!

We’re doing a few of the usual reception traditions, (first dance, garter toss, bouquet toss) but made sure to leave multiple hours completely free so that everyone can boogie down on the dance floor.

This past weekend, I went ahead and created The Most Awesome Wedding Playlist of All Time.

I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.

Handmade Amor: Toasts and Thanks

September 20th, 2011 @ 11:39 am by Mrs. Poodle

Before the maid of honor and best man did their toasts, we wanted to thank everyone that was there at our wedding. Our guests were by our side each step of the way, helping us with every little task, so we wanted to make sure we thanked everyone. We were so thankful for our family and friends that took our wedding projects as their own, and many times, without even asking, we got more help than we could have imagined. :) We are truly blessed!

I started thanking people, and when it was Mr. Poodle’s turn, without notice I stole the microphone again. I guess I was way too excited and I couldn’t even blame it on the alcohol because I didn’t even drink until very late that night!

Hair Dos Hair Dids and Hair Don’ts

September 20th, 2011 @ 11:15 am by Mrs. Skunk

I’ve had my hair just about every color under the sun. I feel most relaxed and think I look the healthiest when it’s a sandy blonde color. But I feel most spunky and rock star-ish when I’m rocking my deep purple-y color. I’ve been slowly trying to get as close to my natural color as possible for wallet purposes. Unfortunately, my natural color happens to be dishwater blonde.

We all have our fair share of family drama, vendor drama and life drama. If I had one wish it would be to declare our wedding a “drama-free” zone.

Wedding Funkalunk

September 20th, 2011 @ 9:21 am by Miss Porcupine

I’ve been in a real wedding funk lately. Now that most of our vendors are booked, it’s time for the details. And, honestly, this is stressing me out more than anything. There are so many little things to decide on/iron out (song choices, place cards, guestbook, favors, etc.). And, most importantly of the detail woes, we have to somehow find the time with our insane, busy schedules (plus the future hubs’s annoying work schedule) to make a trip down to Pennsylvania so that I can test out hair salons and we can do a menu tasting.

The tasting has been a huge source of annoyance for me. Our caterer/venue requires the menu choice for each guest to be decided upon before the wedding. This means I can’t order my invitations without knowing what to tell the guests the menu options are. I could, in theory, order the invitations and get the menu-card inserts later, but I live in pointless fear that the invitation I choose will get discontinued, leaving me without matching menu inserts. (I know, I know…the horror.)

Here we are, 8 years later, living in Pittsburgh, planning a "homestination" wedding in the place our school romance began---Johnstown, PA. I thrive on talking a mile a minute, eating my weight in chocolate, and internet shopping. I love a lengthy to-do list almost as much as I love a healthy amount of chaos in my life. Mr. Snow Cone and I watch countless episodes of Friends and The West Wing on repeat, root for rival college sports teams, and make each other laugh each and every day. We’re putting together a small-town wedding with a big personality and a classically modern (or modernly classic?) look for 250 of our closest family and friends. It’s been 8+ years in the making, and sometimes I still can’t believe I’m finally getting to marry my high school sweetheart!
About Mrs. Snow Cone

On Monday afternoon, we decided to tear ourselves away from the beach long enough to experience some local culture and history by visiting a South Carolina plantation. We opted to go to Boone Hall Plantation, as it was the closest plantation to our resort and it boasted some original architecture from the Civil War era, which was a big draw for us. After getting there, we discovered that we weren’t the only ones smitten with the scenery at the plantation; multiple movies have been filmed there, including The Notebook. The landscaping was gorgeous; the plantation’s most impressive landscaping feature was a long road lined with gigantic Oak trees.

The SCs in SC: You and Me, and Hurricane Makes Three! : wedding honeymoon pittsburgh Img 18601 IMG_18601

After scoping out the grounds, we decided to watch a presentation on local Gullah Gullah culture, highlighting the history, language, and music that pervaded plantations during the 1800s. The presentation included an interactive portion, calling for volunteers from the audience to participate in a music demonstration. Bravely, Mr. Snow Cone decided to participate, showing off his natural sense of rhythm.
