Our first meeting with a possible photographer is tomorrow afternoon, so I thought now would be a good time to share with the hive my inspiration for flowers. At just under 5 months (151 days to be exact), I feel like we’re moving a bit slow on the florist front.
Momma Kettle and I talked about at least as much as anything else we discussed about the wedding when it was still a vague concept in our minds. I knew I wanted lovely rose bouquets for me and the girls, and lovely rose bouts for the guys and corsages for the other important ladies. Luckily, Mima Kettle had this idea too. I love it when we’re all on the same page!
I also knew I wanted flowers as the main focus of the table centerpieces. I wasn’t sure how I wanted it to look until Momma Kettle mentioned the words “flower box.” As soon as she said it, the words have stuck with me.

I will admit that when something exciting is about to occur I sleep about as well as a kid on Christmas Eve. My head swims with glorious images and I wake up every hour on the hour. Knowing this about myself and knowing that I wanted to be well rested and not have dark circles under my eyes in our wedding photos, I popped and extra strength Benedryl before going to bed and had one of the best sleeps ever.
I rolled out of bed at 9AM with a blissful smile on my face and typed up my final post as a “Miss” for the hive. The sun was shining and no hint of the ominous rain to come was in the air.
Around noon, Ms. Pigeon swung by my place to whisk me away to my bridal brunch with a brief stop off at Nordstrom’s to pick up my gift of monogrammed hankies for Mr. Waffle.

Today, Mr. Warbs is gonna have to move over for my newest love! What, do you ask, has stolen me away from him? Jewelry—duh!
While perusing the hive, I saw Mrs. Penguin post about a new fashion website, Dress Rush. It’s targeted at brides and offers up daily sales in a similar fashion to Groupon. They’ll be offering gorgeous wedding dresses, veils, and accessories at discounted rates. Swoon! I swooped in on the first day when they were featuring the fantastic jewelry designer, Tejani Jewelry. Almost since the minute I bought my gown, Mother-in-Law Warbler has been asking about what jewelry I want to wear. I initially thought I wanted simple pearl stud earrings and I’d wear my tennis bracelet.
But after checking out Tejani Jewelry, I have to admit that I’ve had a change of heart. Can you blame me? Just look at all the pretty!

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
You can tell that’s the bridal march, right?
I heard a lot of the dah dum t’dumms growing up because my mom was (and still is) our church organist and she played at many of the congregants’ weddings. When I went through my teenage phase of “I wanna be completely different from everyone in the whole wide world,” I decided I wouldn’t be a person who came down the aisle to the bridal march if/when I ever got married, and I never changed my mind about that. But in all the years since then, I also haven’t been that interested in getting married in general, so I’ve given precious little thought to any other specific things that I did or didn’t want at my potential future wedding. Except this one thing….
Hive, I’m gonna just come right out and say it. This one thing is kind of a diva moment.

When the box arrived with our save the dates, I was overly excited. The packaging itself (once you got inside the brown packing box) was too cute. This was my first Etsy purchase, and it immediately got me hooked (and wondering what talent I could use to open a shop on this site)!
So without further ado, I’ll let the pictures do the talking. Please don’t mind my lame-o squiggly deleting Photoshop technique over the personal info I blurred.
**all images are personal photos*

One of the things that was important to me right from the start were the details of our day. Now, don’t get too excited… this is not the infamous detail post. (Although I do promise to do one!) But I do want to pause to look at the details that were actually on Mr. Lox and me. We (okay, I) spent a lot of time thinking about these and our photographer understood how important they were to me. So after my dress catastrophe was properly resolved, we paused to take pictures of the little things that made up our attire for the day.
First up was Mr. Lox… isn’t he handsome?

And, in case you couldn’t properly appreciate it from afar, a close up of Mr/ Lox’s details.

After weighing all of our options, we decided that we for sure wanted to jump the broom. I talked with friends, family, and other brides, and every single person said to go for it. I love what one bee said on the boards: “Go for it! How can we change stereotypes if we hold on to old ideas of what is appropriate? You’re in love—celebrate!” This was exactly what I needed to hear.
Also, one aspect of the tradition involves a little bit of competition. As rock climbers we’re naturally competitive. While he definitely climbs stronger than me, seeing him do so makes me try harder and harder. We’re constantly running to the door of his truck or the front of the gym or even the top of the stairs, and whoever gets there first yells, “I win!” We’re very elementary school when it comes to stuff like that. In jumping the broom, we’ll get to give a nod to our competitive nature, as tradition says that whoever jumps highest over the broom becomes the decision maker of the household. While we don’t take it seriously, it’s going to be a fun little moment for us. And you better believe I’ve been practicing my ups. I may be contemplating trading in my cowboy boots for some Nike Air Force Ones…

I’ve been in love with weddings for a long time. It has definitely been the last solid four years. Oh, wait, is that exactly how long Mr. HW and I have been together? What odds.
A few more engagements of friends and acquaintances have popped up over the last few weeks and I’m feeling some new emotions. I’ll admit it, I used to feel a teensy tiny bit jealous when I’d hear about people getting engaged. I knew Mr. HW and I were on that path, and I so wanted to be engaged to him and plan the wedding of our dreams.
As we finish up our own wedding plans, my feelings towards other engagements are ones of pride as they enter into this arguably magical world that is so beautiful, elegant, special. I know they have a whole new world ahead of them where they will create memories that they will cherish forever.
Being surrounded by fragrant flowers, creamy cakes, and suited up grooms makes for a perky time, indeed. Now that I really know exactly what it is like to plan a wedding, I’m so excited for those friends of mine to begin their time as brides.
I’m also feeling a little sad.

In 2009, just over a year after Mr. Funnel Cake and I had started dating, I had to exit Switzerland and remain abroad while I applied for a work visa. Mr. Funnel Cake was sweet enough to travel with me to Ohio and spend two weeks with me and my family, but after that he had to go home while I waited for the visa to process.

When he arrived back in Switzerland, Mr. Funnel Cake found out his work was sending him to Waco, Texas in one week. So naturally I bought a plane ticket to meet him there! I mean… wouldn’t you?
I’ve been working on getting my something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue for the wedding. I’m almost there! Most of them are related to my accessories, so I thought I’d share some of my pretties for the big day.
Something Old - I had my idea for this for a while. Before my dad’s mother passed away, she told me she was going to leave me her pearl ring. She also told me to make sure my dad gave it to me, because she “knows how he can be.” I finally worked up the nerve to ask my dad about it this weekend, and he went to the safe and got it out for me. After making sure that I was going to take good care of it and inspecting it to make sure the pearls weren’t going to fall off, he finally gave it to me.

Our photographer Sara snapped a few more candid pictures of the wedding party before wrapping it up. The limo was due to arrive soon and we had captured many memories at my childhood home.

It was at this point in the day that I found myself sitting on a couch giving myself a congratulatory pat on the back. We were running ahead of schedule! Even my mother, who is notoriously late for everything, was ready to get the show on the road. I felt a little smug and even a bit impatient. What if our transportation didn’t arrive? Would I miss my own wedding? Oh yes, even a joyous occasion such as our wedding couldn’t quite squash the worrier in me. I tried to soak in completely a few of these moments to myself. I used them to recharge and reflect on the morning of my wedding day.
I have a confession to make. I am completely undecided on whether I am going to take Mr. Warbs’s last name.

When it came to save the dates, I knew I wanted to do something different. With an influx of engagements and weddings only a few years out of college, I soon found my refrigerator in a sea of save-the-date magnets. I love magnets and will gladly snatch up any free magnets you give me, but I decided if I was going to do this whole wedding thang I would switch it up a bit. (Although I’m quite aware everyone sticks all save the dates—regardless of magnetization—to the fridge.)
I don’t even remember where the original idea behind the inspiration came from, but one of the first things I wanted to do was a photo strip. At first I wrangled with the idea of doing a completely DIY save the date. I Googled photo-booth locations around the city and was convinced we would scout out places and get a real strip (and then possibly a strip steak?). I figured I would scan the puppy in and edit it to my liking.
A quick Etsy search later, after months of putting off the task, and I found a designer with my EXACT concept—a photo-strip bookmark complete with the little ribbon hangy-ma-bob on the top. I thought the bookmark was the perfect touch since I work in publishing and love books. On top of that, I think a photo strip is also very “us” since we are a bit wacko and I associate photo booths with goofy faces and ridiculous poses. (It can’t just be me—can it?)

I’d caught onto the whole eclectic-mismatched-bottles-and-jars trend early on in planning, and started collecting random glass receptacles way back in February. I was off to a bit of a slow start—began my hunt at local thrift stores, but was really only uncovering old glasses and non-vasey-vases. There wasn’t anything with that antique thing goin’ on—no milk bottles, no old soda bottles. In retrospect, I’m not sure why I thought I’d find that stuff for a buck or two at Salvation Army, but I was nonetheless set back by my initial finds.
Then, in March, MOH Ginger and I drove out to Mount Dora, about two hours from here, to go to what was promised as the flea market to end all flea markets:
