Midnight Snack Attack

September 10th, 2011 @ 6:00 pm by Miss Petit Four

If y’all haven’t figured it out yet, Mr. PF and I are total foodies. We love tasting new food, eating food in general, and making food, too! So, it’s no surprise that food is a huge part of our wedding. We had to make sure to find a venue that had amazing dishes that not only looked pretty but also tasted great. It just so happens that the chef at the venue we picked was the winner of one of the Iron Chef competitions (yummmmmmm).

Now, I already talked about what we will be eating for dinner, so you must be wondering…what else could she possibly have to say about food?

Well, we want to do a midnight snack attack for all our guests and offer them some more delicious stuff to eat while dancing the night away.

I am an aspiring foodie with a weak spot for the unusual and I love semi-reality food television. My other loves easily include laughing as a form of exercise, a book that I can't put down, summer baseball games, espresso with whipped cream, couch potato days and nights with the ridiculous Mr. Bacon, and our two kitties, Lincoln and Sawyer. We're planning a faux-destination wedding for 150 of our closest friends and family in the city we've both adopted as home that has a modern, yet whimsical twist and as many personal touches as we can manage.

On This Day

September 10th, 2011 @ 3:20 pm by Mrs. Bacon

Hive, I’m sitting in my hotel room while my maid of honor is still asleep, enjoying the 30 minutes before this day really begins. It’s quiet in here and the skies are blue out there and the Baconator has already lost his mustache socks. I feel scarily calm even though I know that in a few short hours, I’ll be putting on my wedding dress for real. I mean, last night, at the rehearsal dinner, I was already a blubbering mess as our family stood to do speeches, but today, I feel cool as a cucumber.

It’s really true, what they say.

Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!

You and Me: Jaguar Wedding Details

September 9th, 2011 @ 6:32 pm by Mrs. Jaguar

Some of my favourite moments from previous bee weddings come from getting the chance to see some of their pre-wedding plans come into fruition and be captured on film during their event. I hope you’ll enjoy seeing some of our little details as much as I’ve loved seeing them in the past.

Let’s begin with a snapshot of our invitations – which I am still lusting over as the months go by, because OMG, the paper. So soft. So textured. Swoon!

Miss Porcupine, NYC/Lancaster, PA Age and Occupation: 26, Sales Coordinator/Publishing Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Assistant Manager/Sales Engagement Date: August 8, 2010 Wedding Date: March 2012 Venue: Riverdale Manor About Me: I'm a born and bred New Yorker with a love/hate relationship for the city I have always called home. Although I may seem quiet from afar, I have a loud personality once you get to know me. I am a book nerd at heart, but love a night out in the city with good friends. I have a serious addiction to all things cheese, chocolate, cardigans, Mexican food, and reality TV. The future hubs and I met in college, settled in New York, and decided to go with a rustic/peacock infused wedding in Lancaster, PA, right near his hometown. Come the big day, we will be together 5 years, and we're looking forward to making it official!

Soooo, How’d Ya Meet?

September 9th, 2011 @ 6:03 pm by Miss Porcupine

Everyone loves that question. Sooooo, how did ya meet? Mr. Porcupine and I used to get that a lot. Almost five years later and that question has sort of worn off, but I’m sure you guys are wondering.

It was my junior year when we first “met.” I had just left the first of many sorority rush events (*ahem* I mean “recruitment,” since the word “rush” was banned from our school—yeah…), and I was sweaty and disgusting. I remember our recruitment shirts that year—they were black, and it was one of those hot September days that hasn’t yet realized that summer is over. Me.No.Like. Hence our March wedding.

My roommate and I stopped to speak to one of our sorority sisters who was also one of the RAs of her dorm. A few of her residents came downstairs, and a friend of hers brought his dog over. Mr. Porcupine was one of those residents. He and his roomie stood around petting the dog. We all introduced ourselves. Then, we left. That.was.it. Exciting, I know. Why in the name of Charlie Chaplin do I even remember this?

Mrs. Magic, Chapel Hill, NC Age and Occupation: 30, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Researcher Engagement Date: December 1, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Barn at Valhalla About Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!

Dress Doubt Disorder: Part 2

September 9th, 2011 @ 5:38 pm by Mrs. Magic

I am having another attack of dress doubt disorder!!!!!! Cue freak out here.

Dress Doubt Disorder: Part 2 : wedding chapel hill dress Panic1

Image via Pitch.com

The good news is, unlike the last bout of this disorder (which is apparently cyclic), the doubt is not about my wedding gown. That is amazing and beautiful and basically the best dress in the world. Insert sigh of relief here.

The bad news is, the doubt is back and I think it’s here for a legitimate reason this time. You see, as a church going little girl raised in the South, my grandma taught me that you cannot wear white after Labor Day. And what color is my rehearsal dinner dress?

Mrs. Seal's Picture
Mrs. Seal, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 25, Personal Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Sales and Support Specialist Engagement Date: December 12, 2009 Wedding Date: November 2011 Venue: Sts Peter and Paul Church/The Bently Reserve About Me: I am a goofy, wannabe crafty, well-intentioned Renaissance Woman (OK, perhaps "aimless wanderer" is a more aptly suited term for me, but hopefully you get the point)—basically I dabble in just about everything and pride myself in such. Without warning, I occasionally breakout into soulful improvised songs and interpretive dances and there's just no stopping me! As so many others before me, planning our wedding has unearthed a deep, intense passion for all things bridal and I secretly fear the day it will come to an end. Mr. Seal and I are quite the pair and life with him by my side is extremely rewarding—I am so thankful to have found him. Together we are planning a black-tie San Francisco affair for 250—light on the stuffiness and with lots of extra Seal-y flair.

Celebrating Friends’ Engagements: Baskets!

September 9th, 2011 @ 5:12 pm by Mrs. Seal

…Alternatively titled: Miss Seal practically keels over with giddiness when someone she knows gets engaged.

Not that I didn’t get excited over newly engaged couples before—I just think, now, being able to fully understand just how exciting getting engaged is, I all but have a heart attack every time someone close to me pledges to wed their beloved!

For example, when BM/FSIL Maria got proposed to by Big Brother Seal, I put together an engagement basket for her. I packed the basket with wedding movies, magazines, planning guides, her favorite wine and tons of other goodies. When BM Carina got engaged to her awesome man—being that she lives a few hours away from me—I sent off an engagement box stuffed to capacity with wedding planning necessities.

Very recently, MOH Meghan was proposed to by her boyfriend during a trip to New York for one of his cousins’ weddings. After all but peeing myself, I calmed myself down and focused on the task before me: her engagement goodies. Once I procured all of the necessities (and gladly purged myself of 75% of my old magazines), I snuck into their home to ensure that the basket awaited them upon their return. Care to see some of my handiwork?

Ms. Ferris Wheel's Picture
Ms. Ferris Wheel, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 29, Psychologist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Psychologist Engagement Date: May 23 and 28, 2010 (one for each of us!) Wedding Date: November 2011 Venue: Parc55 Hotel (city lights ceremony, ballroom reception) About Me: Born in the Southeast, educated in the Northeast, and over-educated on the West Coast, I finally earned my city-girl credentials and have put down roots in gorgeous San Francisco. I’m a raging perfectionist with a lightning quick wit and a terrible sense of both time and direction. Our wedding task list is endlessly growing because of my predilection to think that DIY projects I can make = DIY projects I should make (so not true!). I always go to bed wishing there were more hours in the day to enjoy all the things I adore, whether that be hobbies, friends, my career, our two dogs, or Mr. Ferris Wheel. Ours is a story of a non-traditional couple living an oddly traditional life planning a not-so-traditional wedding in this city we adore. Together we are bustin’ out all of our best skills (and some of our worst ones) to plan a laid-back-chic DIY-craftastic love-alicious affair!
About Ms. Ferris Wheel

Let’s talk about our floral alternatives, also known as the self-created wedding dilemma that is so unreasonably stressful to think about that I avoid it at all costs. Previously I told you that I’m torn about how we’re incorporating floral elements into our wedding. Well, I still haven’t resolved this particular conflict so I’m turning to the hive for some much-needed perspective.

Here’s the deal: yes, we like the look of wedding party members carrying bouquets and we fully intend(ed) to go that route. But… we’re a little over two months out and I still haven’t started any of it. I plan to make a bouquet for myself no matter what, but I don’t know exactly how long it will take to make one, much less six or seven of them. I’m seriously considering the possibility that this might be one of those times where I’ve bitten off more DIY than I can chew. It’s okay, I can admit that it happens sometimes. (But not often, of course. Because I’m amazing and I can do anything.)

When Mr. FW and I started talking about non-bouquet options, we came up with two possibilities that we actually really liked because both would resolve some of our ambivalent feelings about how gendered the florals were going to be. (When you’re looking at these options, recall that the wedding party dresses are gray with black trim.)

Option #1 was inspired by this picture:

Topping the Cake

September 9th, 2011 @ 2:56 pm by Mrs. Funnel Cake

For many months I’ve been thinking about cake toppers from afar… and with less than two months until the big day it’s time to address this decision. Apparently I’m one of those crazy brides who wants a custom cake topper. Can you blame me?

One look at Mrs. Tartlet’s cake is enough to convince anyone they need their own personalised couple. But what kind of cake topper did I want? (And I say “I” here because Mr. Funnel Cake really doesn’t give a crap what we do for this.)
