Mrs. Skunk, AtlantaAge and Occupation: 23, Post baccalaureate studentFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Mechanical DesignerEngagement Date: February 13, 2011Wedding Date: November 2011Venue: Neverland Farms About Me: I’m a Georgia peach born and raised in the dirty dirty. I love reading, baking lots of sweets and forcing them on my friends, and most of all, rock climbing. I am in the process of applying to graduate school in physical therapy and I work at farmers’ markets around town selling bread for a local bakery. The mister and I met while rock climbing just over two years ago and have been inseparable ever since. Our climbing friends mean the world to us and have played an integral role in our relationship. We’re planning a barnyard shindig filled with good food, good friends, and lots of love.
With the girls picked, we needed a plan for bridesmaids’ dresses. OK, plan made: “Girls, go pick out a dress.” I offered no color, style, length, or sleeve guidelines. I think that it proved to be a little unnerving to my girls. Actually, I know BM C. Koala may have been ready to kill me at various points in her search. The only thing I asked was that they all wear cowboy boots. I’m not a particularly country girl, but there was no way that I was going to wear heels all day during an outdoor wedding. This bandwagon I wasn’t going to miss hopping on!
Ms. Sloth, PhiladelphiaAge and Occupation: 35, Account Manager and Fashion BloggerFiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Design AdminEngagement Date: December 25, 2009Wedding Date: May 2011Venue: Bartram's GardenAbout Me: I'm an internet junkie and music snob with a good eye for a bargain. I couldn't live without thrift store shopping, cheeseburgers, sushi, Coke Zero, websites devoted to silly photos of baby animals, Photoshop, and Mr. Sloth. Speaking of which, he and I are a pair of goofball homebody nerds who love our beagle (the most ridiculously adorable dog EVER) to an embarrassing degree. We're planning a low-key and intimate yet festive and quirky outdoor wedding with DIY details and deeply personal touches, and it's all taking place in the city where we fell in love and call home: Philadelphia.
After Seward, and Anchorage, and Talkeetna, we drove up to a charming little B&B in Healy, AK, about twenty minutes from the entrance to Denali National Park. After checking into our room, we went back to the park and took a hike. Neither Mr. S nor I are particularly outdoorsy or athletic, so we chose a hike on the “moderate” scale.
Miss Porcupine, NYC/Lancaster, PAAge and Occupation: 26, Sales Coordinator/PublishingFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Assistant Manager/SalesEngagement Date: August 8, 2010Wedding Date: March 2012Venue: Riverdale ManorAbout Me: I'm a born and bred New Yorker with a love/hate relationship for the city I have always called home. Although I may seem quiet from afar, I have a loud personality once you get to know me. I am a book nerd at heart, but love a night out in the city with good friends. I have a serious addiction to all things cheese, chocolate, cardigans, Mexican food, and reality TV. The future hubs and I met in college, settled in New York, and decided to go with a rustic/peacock infused wedding in Lancaster, PA, right near his hometown. Come the big day, we will be together 5 years, and we're looking forward to making it official!
I’m a bee? Say whaaa?? I am still in mass confusion about this. I was convinced my little red head (OK, that’s a lie—my head’s not quite that little) would get lost amongst the many applicants. But then, one crazy-busy day at work, I looked down at my Blackberry and blindly scanned the email that said I was a bee in a sleepy haze of confusion.
My brain did something like this: “…think you’d be a great addition to the team.” Huh, when did I join a league? I’m on a team? What kind of weird spam is this?
Then the end-of-workday haze cleared and I scrolled back up to the “FROM” line, and it all made sense. I hope you guys are ready for me, because I’m a bit of a nut. I would say “crazy,” but I don’t think that’s politically correct anymore.
I had to pick the porcupine (after much difficult life-decision deliberation) because a.) her hairdo resembles my fro in its natural form (thank you hair gel/hair straightener gods) and b.) like this little dude, I may look sweet, but I definitely have a prickly side to me. I can’t help it. It’s the Brooklyn in me!
Miss Kettle, Chicago, ILAge and Occupation: 26, Non-Profit Donor Resource CoordinatorFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Musician & TeacherEngagement Date: May 29, 2011Wedding Date: February 2012Venue: Patrick C. Haley Mansion, Joliet, ILAbout Me: I'm a city girl who loves a good escape, so I'm planning a Chicago wedding outside of the city. I've been described as a quirky yet down-to-earth drama queen who loves fiercely. I used to be a scientist, but now I'm learning to navigate the world of non-profit organizations. I love cooking, blogging, shopping, and music, and movies (Hans Zimmer is my favorite movie composer). Mr. Kettle and I had a short courtship and now we have a happy home with our cat-who-thinks-she's-people, Belle. We spend our days and nights with good food, live music, video games, family, and friends. Our wedding has become this wonderful excuse to bring together hundreds of people we can't bear to be without.
After our meeting with our first photographer, I was really looking forward to having our meeting with our second photographer. From all the glowing reviews from Mima Kettle and FSIL Grand, I knew I’d enjoy that meeting as well.
Mrs. Sunhat, Dyer, IN Age and Occupation: 32, Tax AccountantFiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Landscape ForemanEngagement Date: September 25, 2010Wedding Date: December 2011Venues: St. Andrew the Apostle, Fiesta PalaceAbout Me: I'm a Midwest girl who grew up in the country and now works in the big city! I love cooking, entertaining, reading (addicted to my Kindle) and going to the movies. I don't miss an episode of Hoarders and I start cleaning every time I watch! My profession doesn't call for much creativity so wedding planning has been a great outlet. Mr. Sunhat and I met online three years ago, cheer for rival MLB teams and share a home with our dog, Wrigley. We are planning a traditional, Polish, Catholic wedding with lots of DIY elements and some fun surprises. I'm so excited to be married on New Year's Eve and we can't wait to ring in the new year as husband and wife!
During our registration process at Macy’s, I felt that we had to add a set of toasting flutes to our registry. Of course I wanted to have a special set that we’d use on our wedding day, but all the formal stemware we came across didn’t really feel like us. We did find one set that we both liked and went ahead and scanned it.
I thought they were beautiful and the extra long stems made them unique, but I wasn’t in love. Also, the $79 price tag was a little steep, but I knew the quality was top notch.
I forgot about the flute issue for a while until I was going through all of the items I saved as favorites on Etsy. Read more…
Miss Snapdragon, Chicago/DallasAge and Occupation: 32,Associate ProducerFiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Lighting DesignerBlogging Since: November 14, 2008Engagement Date: January 1, 2011Wedding Date: March 2012Venue: Marie GabrielleAbout Me: Voracious reader of short stories, Russian literature, National Geographic and Cosmo. I'm a GENIUS at spicing up Weight Watchers recipes and a pathological cheater at board games. I run a slow marathon, but my feet are learning to move faster. Mornings aren't my thing, but I can night owl with the best of them. Don't tempt me with your Cherry Cokes---I'm trying to quit. Tomorrow. Or never.
This summer, Bossyboots and I started a new tradition… “Sundays at Starbucks.” We are well-aware that Starbucks does not have the best coffee, but we are addicted to the green straws and morning buns. So, there you go. People with low standards—that’s us.
Again, if the vast number of calories shown above isn’t an advertisement for marathon training, I don’t know what is. It’s like there’s a tapeworm in my stomach. Trust me, sometimes the thought of a morning bun and an American-oversized Starbucks drink is the only thing that keeps me going on the treadmill.
Anyway, Bossyboots and I found that our wackadoo schedules have really been affecting our relationship. We both work a ton, and the weekends are often full of errands, succeeded by laundry, succeeded by marathon training, succeeded by washing dishes. You get the idea.
Miss Warbler, Long Beach/MalibuAge and Occupation: 24, Quality Assurance EditorFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Handheld AdministratorEngagement Date: December 7, 2010Wedding Date: April 2012Venue: Calamigos Ranch MalibuAbout Me: I’m a Korean BBQ loving, cheesecake enthusiast bride living in the LBC! By day I write and edit for an online search engine marketing company. By night I am a volunteer food taster of all that is delicious. I am fortunate to be marrying an amazing man who loves me and my quirky ways. I love food, books, indie music, and Harry Potter. We are planning a small, intimate wedding up in the Malibu Hills with our closest family and friends. With the help of my wonderful fiance, our loved ones, and red velvet cheesecake, our wedding will be glorious!
Remember my previous post on bridesmaids’ dresses? The one where I played the part of the gracious bride who left the dress decisions up to the girls? Well, I kind of went back on that a teeny bit. OK, maybe more than a teeny bit, but I’m still being flexible!

I am an island girl at heart and I visit the beach as often as I can. I am a wannabe DIY goddess, but that doesn’t mean I won’t give it my best shot. I love pearl earrings, the color pink, and ruffles are a part of my everyday wardrobe. My wonderful fiance and I are planning a destination wedding with our closest family and friends and we’re leaving a trail of glitter in our path!
I have written a couple of times about bridesmaids’ dresses and different options I have considered. I started off wanting to just let my girls pick out their own dresses. I often dreamed of us frolicking in the white, powdery sand in gorgeously mismatched dresses.
Mrs. Honey, Durango, COAge and Occupation: 28, Financial AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Lab Tech/PhlebotomistEngagement Date: August 1, 2010Wedding Date: January 2012Venue: Vallecito LakeAbout Me: I am a Colorado girl through and through, marrying an adrenaline-fueled Alabama boy. We love the outdoors just about as much as we love spoiling our dog and three cats. On any given weekend you can find us being adventurous, doing anything from rafting to snowboarding, and everything in between. We live in an outdoor mecca and truly believe in "Work Hard, Play Harder." I'm an optimist to the core, a crafter wannabe, a Southern food cook-in-training and a big time believer in girls nights. We met, fell in love and got engaged in eight short months and are now knee-deep in planning what we hope to be a super-fun, very us wedding celebration. Join us as we plan a rustic meets whimsical, Colorado winter wedding with loads of personal touches and good food!
In preparation for creating our dream dessert buffet, I began collecting pieces from garage sales and thrift stores. I didn’t really know what I was going for, so at first the pieces seemed pretty random. A few glass things here, a ceramic piece there. My Papa also gave me a beautiful glass cake plate that my Nana adored. The jumbled collection kept growing without a clear vision, until I saw these two pictures on Pinterest:
The cake stand picture is a tutorial on how to create your own cake plates out of just about anything from the thrift store. Read more…
Miss Ticket, Riverside, CAAge and Occupation: 25, Executive AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, HVAC TechnicianEngagement Date: November 14, 2010Wedding Date: October 2011Venue: Crestmore ManorAbout Me: I'm a lifelong So Cal gal, a chocoholic, a closet gamer, and a television enthusiast (love me some Vampire Diaries!) who adores playing in the kitchen and lives in flip flops. Mr. Ticket and I are best known for singing and dancing in the car, our World of Warcraft addiction, adoring food, crane game playing, and our general homebody ways. Oh, and GO STEELERS!
My future family (FMIL Ticket hosted) was generous enough to throw me a bridal shower while Mr. Ticket and I visited in March. People commented that it seemed a bit early (eight months prior to the wedding), but it was the only time we would be in Pittsburgh before the wedding, and I was thrilled she was so generous as to think of such a thing.

Mr. Skunk is the most amazing, fantastic, involved, loving man in the world. Sure, I’m biased. But he really is awesome. Which makes it so much harder that he left at the end of August to be over 800 miles away for a couple weeks. We’re hoping he gets to come home at the beginning of October, but there’s no telling.
Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich, Washington, DC/Cape May, NJAge and Occupation: 28, School CounselorFiance's Age and Occupation: 40, Collegiate AthleticsEngagement Date: March 27, 2010Wedding Date: October 2011Venue: Congress Hall HotelAbout Me: I am a school counselor who spends my day wrangling children and my nights attempting to be creative with wedding projects. My enthusiasm for each of these activities far surpasses my skill. Thank goodness Mr. Cucumber Sandwich is there to pick up the pieces and be the voice of reason about my DIY tries. I have an obsession with terrible romantic comedies (‘From Justin to Kelly’ anyone?, anyone?!?), competitive Scrabble play, and hot dogs. I could eat astronaut ice cream for every meal and can’t seem to resist buying more shoes. Our wedding is going to be a true hodge podge of semi-destination, tradition, Yuengling, New England charm, with just a dash of ‘Jersey Shore’ thrown in. It has been six years in the making and I can’t wait to marry my best friend.
Since Mr. Prez gave a big speech last night about the state of affairs, I figure it is time to reassess mine. With less than a month to go some things are getting done, some are being replaced and some are being plain thrown out!
Lets start with what is no longer making the cut for the Cucumber Sandwich wedding.
We will not be having a photo booth at our wedding. Originally I really, really wanted one but as time is growing short and my DIY list is getting longer this project did not make the cut. I could have delegated it to Mr. Cuke Sammie but I am slowly coming around to not having one at the wedding. I have convinced myself that it will take away from our raging dance floor. I have no idea if this is true but it is what I tell myself late at night. Read more…
