We woke up bright and early to drive about two and a half hours north to Talkeetna, Alaska. Talkeetna is known as being the starting point for most people who want to climb Mount McKinley. It’s also allegedly the inspiration for the fictional town of Cicely from the TV show Northern Exposure. It’s an adorably quaint little town with a ton of bars. The town jokingly refers to itself as “a small drinking village with a climbing problem.”
It was raining pretty hard and we couldn’t check into our room for a few hours, so we killed some time at the little town museum.

From the very beginning this has been our wedding. We’ve included lots of elements that are strictly us and I’m very fortunate in that mommy Macarons has been on board with just about everything. What’s the one point of tension?

Macs and I aren’t exactly fans, I loathe them in fact. I always feel under pressure to write something amazing and it’s only made worse because I know other guests can read what I’ve written. Since a guest book is meant to serve as a reminder of those that celebrated with you, why not have something with a little more presence?

Photo shoots can be really nerve-wracking and awkward if you aren’t professional models like us… Ha, just kidding, but our photographer did an amazing job and made us look really good!
I don’t remember how I found Jordan, but I am so happy that I did. Her pictures have that dreamy look that you see on Style Me Pretty, and she was within our budget.

Around these parts, I normally see inspiration boards that evolve over time into beautiful, cohesive weddings. Sure colors might change over time, but eventually something is decided upon and a vision is created. My inspiration boards have been so all over the place that our vision now is to have an awesome wedding. We haven’t picked colors, there are no fonts that will be used in various places, and there’s no theme, per se.
At first, I settled on purple and gray. It would be easy to come up with flowers and easy to find dresses, and there was tons of inspiration on the interwebs that I could pluck from.

Do it! Like everyone else on the planet, Bossyboots and I had specific plans for our engagement photos, namely a Save the Date. We’re getting married in March 2012… we’re kind of behind the 8-ball right now. Since our wedding is a destination adventure for most of our guests, we sent out an email back in May to most of our peeps so that at least they knew the date and location. So really, we’re not behind so much as extra reminder-y about our wedding.
I will say I’m a big fan of the email pre-STD. People like to plan ahead, and it always works better when you can give them as much notice as possible! We spread the word via email and word-of-mouth as soon as we had a date, so that helped me not have a panic attack about waiting until the six-month mark to send out STDs. And I am not making sexually transmitted diseases jokes because you can do that on your own—so go nuts! (Ha!)
From our photos, two were at our Tippy McTiptop:

My best man, BM Doc, has an older brother who was engaged while we were in college. His wedding party was spread out geographically. The best way for him to keep everyone in the loop was to let them know in a very classic way: a newsletter.
I loved this idea then, and I love it still now. While we have five people in our wedding party from out of town, that’s actually only a small fraction of our hugely large wedding party. But keeping everyone on the same page has been…a task.
In order to better serve the needs of our my sanity, I came up with a great newsletter. This isn’t just for the bridesmaids, though. It will go to the bridesmaids, the junior bridesmaids and bridal attendants, the groomsmen, the parents of the flowers girls and ring bearers, and also to the ushers and hostesses. That’s a lot o’ mail to send out. But it will be worth it to keep anything from falling through the cracks.
I’m not sure how often I’ll have to do these newsletters, but this one was right before the six-months-to-wedding mark, so there’s no way to tell. In this newsletter, I covered: an introduction of who all was in the wedding party (in case anyone didn’t know yet); a reminder of our engagement party in two weeks; information about our changed venue; clothing FAQs, as we’re coming up on the date to order these items; other cutesy things.
Mmm sweets. I’ve got a big sweet tooth so it’s no surprise that I’ve put just quite a bit of thought into what kind of sweetness we will have at our wedding. I love that we aren’t pinned into the cake corner anymore and that nowadays we have many more options as to what smackerels to serve our guests to appease their own sweet tooths. Cakes are the standard, but beautiful choice…I’m drawn to ruffly and ombre colored cakes that double as works of art:

Knowing that the artsy detailed cake would not fit into our budget, I did what I do best: turned to Google for other options. And oh, the options. I was dead set on the cupcake tower last fall. I love the over-the-top look of the display and the ability to provide multiple flavors:

When it comes to weddings, even the best laid plans can go astray—which can be hard to take if you’re an obsessive-compulsive planner, like I am. Our plan upon entering our reception venue was to relax in the bridal suite for around half an hour, have a drink with our bridal party, and take a moment to catch our breath. While we were doing this, our guests were due to arrive and begin their cocktail hour on the balcony.

Well, down came the rain.
So, I put off two important factors of the wedding until now—hair and makeup. Oops. Tonight I made an appointment for a hair trial, which is supposed to take place on Sunday. I’m in the midst of working out a time for my makeup trial, but hopefully it will be the same day so I an see how it all works together.

I wasn’t really sure exactly what I wanted to do. For makeup, I wanted to look pretty and not go too heavy since I rarely wear makeup to begin with. I want to look pretty and fresh but not over the top. I Googled up a few pictures:

Choosing a first dance song has been surprisingly difficult for us. Both the Sealman and I—n terms of music—are very well-rounded. Though our favorite genres vary slightly, we both agree on what “good” music is and appreciate the other’s refined musical palette.
Apart from some fun hip-hop songs we bonded over in the beginning of our relationship, the two of us don’t share “a song” In other words, there’s not one particular tune that makes us feel mushy about our relationship—more so a few songs that I goofily do my trademark dance moves to that makes Mr. S fervently laugh.
For a visual, Mr. Seal says my sweet moves (and ridiculous facial expressions) can most closely be compared to the girl from the Sun Drop commercial.

Anyhow, seeing as how I had absolutely no intentions of droppin’ it like it’s hot for our first dance (that’s for the 5th dance…duh), we were left at square one.
Many options were unearthed (I’ll spare you those), but only one song stuck. The tune was one of Mr. Seal’s genius suggestions and is a song I have always loved and grew up singing.
I once read a magazine article about brides in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. It mentioned the key differences in age groups, from style of dress to size of bridal party. I recall loving the style of the 30s bride’s wedding. It was a simple backyard-like affair and her dress was beautiful, but the part that captured my attention the most was her flower baby. Rather than a flower girl between the ages of three and seven, around the average, she had a flower baby that was roughly between one-and-a-half and two years old. She was the cutest thing I had ever seen in a bridal magazine! I wish I could remember which magazine or issue it was. I believe it was a Brides magazine from 2009, but I really can’t be sure. I have scoured the internet for the article, and it appears it simply doesn’t exist in the digital world.
That being said, let’s get on to the main point of this story: I now have a flower baby of my very own! My sister, MOH Ticket, had a little girl in August of 2010, and that child has a hold over my brain in a simply uncanny way. Her smile makes me smile; simply put, the moment we met at 4:00 AM about two hours after she was born, I knew this little girl would be a MAJOR part of my life from here on out. The moment Mr. Ticket and I got engaged, I knew she had to be included in our special day. I wasn’t even sure how at the time, but the day wouldn’t be the same without her being a big part of it. I’m not sure what triggered it, but something reminded me of that article and I realized that by the time our day rolled around my niece would be 14 months old and would make the PERFECT flower baby!
After having asked permission from this little beauty’s mommy before sharing her picture over the internet (she’s all over Facebook already), I would like to introduce you to…

After seeing this amazingly cute picture on Style Me Pretty, I figured this is something I could definitely handle…or at least try to handle without a large amount of tears.

Seriously, how awesome are these guys with their cute little heart fans???
I mentioned a while back that Mr. Cucumber Sammie and I will be including some cultural traditions in our ceremony to represent our heritage. We covered Mr. Cuke Sammie’s African American roots with a broom jump. And now it is my turn!
I am Irish, Irish and just a little bit more Irish so picking a heritage pull a tradition from was easy. There is tons of great inspiration for including Irish elements in your wedding. I would have loved to get Mr. Cucumber Sammie in a kilt but before I could even get the words out he said, “not going to happen.”

We also briefly flirted with the idea of the Irish handfasting.

A few weeks ago, MOH Johnny5 and I went to an ultra-swank registry event at Crate&Barrel. If you’ve ever been to one of these events, they can be a little overwhelming. They basically give you a short introduction, hand you a scanner, and let you run amok around the store. There’s one thing about the scanner they don’t tell you, though. It makes you feel powerful. And giddy.
