One thing people frequently told us after we got engaged was that the only perk of wedding planning is the free cake tastings. Personally, I think there have actually been a lot of perks (like, for instance, blogging for all of you!). But I do love me some cake, so I was looking forward to that perk in particular. There was a wrench in that plan, though. We wanted to save money in the wedding cake department, which is why we opted to go with a dessert buffet rather than a traditional multi-tiered wedding cake. We wanted the center cake on the display to be a small, “top tier”-esque cake. Just enough so that we could have the fancy wedding cake experience without actually having a full-on multi-tier cake.

After a few days of post-wedding recovery in Pittsburgh, Mr. Snow Cone and I hopped on a plane to head down to Charleston, South Carolina, for our much-awaited honeymoon. When deciding on a destination, we decided we wanted good food, good weather, and a schedule that allowed for a decent amount of flexibility and control on our part. Suffice it to say, Charleston nailed all three of those top priorities (minus one relatively sizable exception…).
We got off the plane at Charleston’s quaint airport, which was a bit cozier than most airports I’ve encountered in my various travels. Fortunately, the cozy airport size translated to short lines everywhere, which meant we had rental car keys and luggage in our possession very shortly after landing. An easy 20-minute drive from the airport placed us right in downtown Charleston! Right away, we could tell Charleston was a special city. For most places in the United States, the term “downtown” conjures up images such as this:

… which is not quite the same as downtown Charleston.

There was one more thing that I got during my bachelorette weekend that I simply cannot not blog about. It’s something that BM Maura got for me as if she is simply psychic. In the week leading up to the party, I was suddenly overtaken with an obsession for custom hangers. No idea why, but I was scouring Etsy like my life depended on it. I favorited hangers from loads of different shops with lots of different customization options, but couldn’t pull the trigger because I didn’t really know what I wanted my hanger to say.
Did I want simple and straightforward, “I do” or “bride?”

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
I’m getting way ahead of myself, but lately I’ve been obsessing about wedding invitations. Why am I worrying about that when I haven’t even booked a photographer yet? Because I’ve been following Jessica Claire’s blog, and it’s pretty amazing. Jessica is a photographer who recently married and has been sharing her creative ideas. For her invitations she took a bunch of old hardcover books, hollowed them out, and placed her invitations inside. The finished product looked like this:

This post deserves words—lots of words.
It’s so easy to get caught up in the details of wedding planning. The ideas, the guests, the finances, the colours, the dress! But during our day, I couldn’t get over how much in love I was with Mr. Jaguar—I spent 99% of the day clutching his hand and very, very rarely let go. Being married felt different, felt secure, felt whole, as silly as it sounds.
But instead of providing the words it deserves, since I could never accurately summarise how I felt on the day (and still feel, now) I’ll stick with pictures.

Unfortunately this post bears extremely sad news. On Monday, August 8, 2011, we lost my wonderful grandmother. My heart is still broken, yet I’m comforted knowing she is out of pain and at peace.
I was lucky enough to grow up next door to my fraternal grandparents. In fact, it was their farm we used for our engagement pictures. As a kid, I simply had to take a three-minute walk through the back fields to reach their house. Grandma would always have candy bars in the fridge, and we’d sip on Grandpa’s delicious “iced tea” concoction. (I know it had Tang mixed in there!) My grandparents read to my sister and me all the time and taught us how to become fairly good rummy players. I clearly remember answering my first final Jeopardy! question correctly in their living room. (They were avid viewers.)
While these are memories I will always treasure, one memory I will not have is the two of them being there on my wedding day. Grandpa passed away ten years ago, but I always expected Grandma would be there with us. My heart aches each time I think of how she’ll never see me in my dress or witness our beautiful Mass.

I won’t lie to you—I went into this invitation endeavor with the soul intent of shamelessly emulating Mrs. Panther in any way I could. I figured I wouldn’t get mine to be nearly as beautiful and I certainly couldn’t afford letterpress or calligraphy, but I was going to try to do my best with what I had.
I couldn’t find a background online I liked, so I bought a pack of designed card stock from Michaels and scanned a piece. Then I edited some color in using Corel PaintShop Pro after finding the colors I wanted to use via Pantone. Bam! Step one down, and it only took me about 2 hours! I decided on the wording I wanted and then spent another 3 hours looking through every free font known to man to find something I liked. Then I tried to figure out how to include our awesome silhouettes. The design process is actually quite boring to describe—just picture a tired and frazzled Miss Ticket sitting at a computer and occasionally smacking her head into her desk.

About Me: I’m a Georgia peach born and raised in the dirty dirty. I love reading, baking lots of sweets and forcing them on my friends, and most of all, rock climbing. I am in the process of applying to graduate school in physical therapy and I work at farmers’ markets around town selling bread for a local bakery. The mister and I met while rock climbing just over two years ago and have been inseparable ever since. Our climbing friends mean the world to us and have played an integral role in our relationship. We’re planning a barnyard shindig filled with good food, good friends, and lots of love.
