Miss Porcupine, NYC/Lancaster, PAAge and Occupation: 26, Sales Coordinator/PublishingFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Assistant Manager/SalesEngagement Date: August 8, 2010Wedding Date: March 2012Venue: Riverdale ManorAbout Me: I'm a born and bred New Yorker with a love/hate relationship for the city I have always called home. Although I may seem quiet from afar, I have a loud personality once you get to know me. I am a book nerd at heart, but love a night out in the city with good friends. I have a serious addiction to all things cheese, chocolate, cardigans, Mexican food, and reality TV. The future hubs and I met in college, settled in New York, and decided to go with a rustic/peacock infused wedding in Lancaster, PA, right near his hometown. Come the big day, we will be together 5 years, and we're looking forward to making it official!
Mr. P and I are Jewish by birth. How we practice Judaism, however, doesn’t exactly fit nicely into a box that can be defined. We celebrate pertinent holidays, but sort of do it “our” way (maybe we break the Yom Kippur fast a little bit before sundown). Although I identity myself as being Jewish, it doesn’t hold a huge weight over my life. I would say I am more “spiritual” than anything else. I believe in some of the laws of Judaism. Others, I have a hard time putting myself behind. I believe there is SOMETHING out there, may it be God, Allah, or Aladdin—I don’t know. I also think there’s a place good people end up. It’s too depressing for me to think there is nothing out there in that great beyond.
Regardless of my own religious opinion of things, there will be many Jewish traditions that will show up in our wedding. Mr. P grew up a little more “religious” then I did. He wasn’t Orthodox, but was raised somewhere between Reform and Conservative. He didn’t live in a kosher home or strictly celebrate the Sabbath. But, he did go to Hebrew school, learn Hebrew, have a Bar Mitzvah, and quit it on the bread products during Passover. I grew up in a much more lax household. I didn’t want to go to Hebrew school as a kid so no one forced me to. I never learned Hebrew. I never had a Bat Mitzvah. Read more…
Miss Doe, Northern CaliforniaAge and Occupation: 24, Real Estate AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Recycling ManagerEngagement Date: December 25, 2010Wedding Date: May 2012Venue: Monte Verde InnAbout Me: I’m a Rat Pack fan and a Christmas nut that loves to read, good wine, cheesy ’80s movies and ’90s sitcoms. My wiener dog with an attitude problem and lazy basset hound are my constant source of entertainment. He's a hunter and I like cooking so it's not rare to see wild game on our dinner menu. Both of us were born and raised in a small historic farming town where our feet are still firmly planted. We have been together for nearly a decade and have shared many life experiences together, including birthdays that are only one day apart. We are two old souls that are creating our long-awaited wedding with loads of tradition that blends our two styles into rustic elegance in the foothills of Northern California.
The story of how Mr. Buck and I met is fairly simple. My friend and his friend are twin brother and sister. Back in 2002 a big group of us went bowling together one day, and that is where our paths crossed. Our first words were super romantic. As a dramatic ’90s baby makin’ song came on the radio he said, “Oh yay, this is my favorite song.” I responded with confusion. “Oh really? That’s cool.” He responded back, “no, I’m kidding.” And that was that. I don’t think we spoke much the rest of the evening.
Okay so I may or may not have been exaggerating with our first words being romantic. They definitely were not. It did, however, give me insight into his dry sense of humor, which I love oh so much. If I could pinpoint one of the best things about our relationship, it is definitely the humor and laughter.
Approximately 1 month later he asked me out on a date. A real date, as in I had to borrow my best friend’s Abercrombie jean jacket and steal some of my mom’s expensive perfume. This was some serious stuff. We went to see what was apparently the only movie out at the time, The Scorpion King. To this day, I still have no idea what that movie is about. I obviously did not pay attention. Read more…

Alas, true love has brought me “south” where I still maintain my penchants for pretty shoes, wine, crossword puzzles, cherry blossoms, and the Mets. I own more sunglasses than a normal person should and don’t eat red meat (though I make up for it by eating my weight in sushi). I tend to be a big planner who likes to get things started early, but generally end up being indecisive and procrastinating when it comes down to it. I have a (not so) secret crush on Chris Carrabba, but my loyalty and love ultimately goes to the future hubs, of course! Together, my Foxy man and I love to discuss (read: debate) politics and current events, have Mario Kart and Scrabble duels, and just laugh. A lot. We’re hoping and planning for a laid back, fun, summery, rustic vibe to our June wedding that will be genuinely “us” – that is, if we finally make some decisions. Huzzah!
So I discovered this gem of a Groupon deal last April - a $425 one-hour photo session with Brooke Bready Photography for the low price of $65. That’s a discount of 85!%!! Craziness. I was checking out the amazing deal, loving Brooke’s amazing photography, and ultimately decided it was the perfect opportunity to use for an engagement photo session.
The kicker? I wasn’t engaged yet.
Here was the rationale behind my thinking: we were on track to get engaged/be married, the Groupon was good for a year (and if we weren’t engaged by then, well then, grrrrr), and if for some reason I actually was not engaged by April of 2011, I would get my friends together and have a BFF glam photo shoot. Genius. And no, I did not tell Mr. Foxy about buying this for fear of appearing psychotic.
However! It must have been good luck or something, because 9 days later, on April 18th, he proposed. I was able to schedule a session for September with Brooke, admitted my pre-engagement engagement-photo purchase to Foxy, had a good laugh, and was so excited to get our pictures taken at Brookside Gardens in Maryland. AnonymousFeature Launched: September 23, 2011About: Bees explore issues related to wedding planning that they do not want to have tied to their real names/monikers.
Maybe you know the story: Your best friend is getting married and excitedly asks for your help planning her dream wedding. You pull out all the stops with a surprise bachelorette party, multiple wedding showers, expensive wedding gifts, and you happily buy a bridesmaid ensemble even though you’ll never wear the shoes or dress again.
Fast-forward a few years and now you’re engaged. It’s your turn to navigate planning the largest event of your life and you expect hope that you’ll have help from your married friend.
Guess who doesn’t have the time of day?
That’s right, this post is addressing the disappointment in fair-weather, flaky friends and relatives who enjoyed your help for their wedding and then contributed zilch to your special day.
Mr. Anonymous and I have both helped out with a fair amount of weddings by now, even back in our college years when neither of us had much cash. When we finally got married ourselves, we had anticipated we would enjoy all the usual benefits surrounding weddings.
Looking back, I can’t help but feel let down by some friends and family, not only for myself but for Mr. Anonymous, too. Read more…
Mrs. Teaspoon, Sydney, AustraliaAge and Occupation: 27, Medical ScientistFiance's Age and Occupation: 30, BankerEngagement Date: June 4, 2010Wedding Date: September 2011Venue: St Aloysius' College, Milson's PointAbout Me: I am a mad scientist who enjoys swimming at the beach in summer and skiing powder in winter. Our favourite times together are spent with the sand between our toes, cooking up a storm, re-watching and re-reading every Harry Potter ever made, and spending time with our dear friends and family! We have travelled the world together in our 6 years of dating, from Paris, to Thailand, to Las Vegas, and we are tackling the many challenges of planning our special day the best way we know how---together!
Warning: this may not be suitable for work, as there are some photos of some plastic and papier-mâché male body parts.
Otherwise known as a bachelorette in some parts of the world, down here we call it a hens’ night, apparently for some unknown reason? I’m guessing it is due to all the plucking around all us women do, but honestly who knows?
Anyway, after the posh and delicate afternoon tea, the sun went down and the frivolity increased! The PG rating of the night went out the door and the six-foot “big bob” ended up in the toilet to startle the first person who walked into the bathroom—here he is in the spare room while we were getting ready:

Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!

My type-A Virgo tendencies often cause me to drive my laid-back college sweetheart fiance batty with lists and PowerPoint presentations. I love to be crafty and do things myself, which explains why my two crazy kittens often will prance around the house covered in glitter and ribbons. When I am not bogged down with work, school, or wedding planning, I like to travel to visit my expansive family and have wild adventures with my best friends. After a rollercoaster ride of a love story, I’m ready to take that final plunge, marry the love of my life, and become a Mrs.!
Let me tell you something about who I was in high school. I was one of those people who went with the flow. I had my group of friends, most of whom I met in middle school. There was a group of four of us who remained friends all throughout school and even went to college together. Things changed there, but in high school we were inseparable. I was content with who I was in high school.
THEN:
I had my best friend, who I met in the seventh grade when I first moved to Iowa from California. We were more like sisters than friends.

Fate brought us together, and now we live in a cute little rental house with our nutty dog, and our aloof cat. We both love to read, watch movies, explore our town, and laugh like hyenas. When I’m not obsessively wedding crafting, I enjoy stalking style and decorating blogs, making collages and painting, napping, thrifting, rearranging our bookshelves, and being a total weirdo with my friends. Hi!
She’s almost ready! I went for the second dress fitting this past Saturday, and it was so thrilling having the dress perfectly tailored for me, looking 99% like it will on the wedding day.
Miss Warbler, Long Beach/MalibuAge and Occupation: 24, Quality Assurance EditorFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Handheld AdministratorEngagement Date: December 7, 2010Wedding Date: April 2012Venue: Calamigos Ranch MalibuAbout Me: I’m a Korean BBQ loving, cheesecake enthusiast bride living in the LBC! By day I write and edit for an online search engine marketing company. By night I am a volunteer food taster of all that is delicious. I am fortunate to be marrying an amazing man who loves me and my quirky ways. I love food, books, indie music, and Harry Potter. We are planning a small, intimate wedding up in the Malibu Hills with our closest family and friends. With the help of my wonderful fiance, our loved ones, and red velvet cheesecake, our wedding will be glorious!
Now that I have an idea of what my engagement-sesh look will be, it’s time to get the makeup down. While Mr. Warbs was busy with football this weekend, I tried out some “war paint,” as Mama Warbler likes to call it. I’ve worn makeup before, but have only recently started wearing it on a regular basis. My main problem is that no matter what I do, I always end up looking shiny after only a couple of hours. I sweat a lot (TMI?) even when it’s not hot out, so I’m constantly feeling self-conscious. I needed to find something that wouldn’t make me look as shiny. A friend of mine recommended MAC’s Oil Control Lotion and swore that it kept her shine free.

I am an island girl at heart and I visit the beach as often as I can. I am a wannabe DIY goddess, but that doesn’t mean I won’t give it my best shot. I love pearl earrings, the color pink, and ruffles are a part of my everyday wardrobe. My wonderful fiance and I are planning a destination wedding with our closest family and friends and we’re leaving a trail of glitter in our path!
After our photographer suggested we take pictures before the ceremony to save time, Mr. PF had to be talked into the idea. He is somewhat traditional and expressed that he didn’t want to see me before the ceremony. He wanted that element of surprise when he sees me walking down the aisle, which I totally get.
I actually agreed with him, but I knew it would be more logical to take pictures before the ceremony. It would leave us more time to enjoy our cocktail hour and more time with our friends and family. So, I started doing some research on first-look pictures in an attempt to persuade Mr. PF into the idea.

What is that I hear? Is that the Sound of Music?! I think it just might BEE!
Well hey there, Hive! My name is Miss Doe. It is an honor to meet all of you! I am incredibly excited to be here. As soon as I recovered from the shock of receiving an acceptance email, I instantly called all my friends and family. They all know what Weddingbee is and were so thrilled for me. Except I did not tell my little brother because I figured he just would not understand what the heck I was talking about. I later received a text message from him that said, “I hear you are some sort of bee keeper now?” Oh man, that was my favorite response of the day.
So who are we? We met way back in ninth grade when I was 15 years old and he was 14 years old. Yeah, yeah I robbed the cradle. Read more…

At the same time, I value traditions, family and friends. I like to make crafty messes, sometimes, clean them up, and do pretty much anything outdoors. The Mister and I are pretty avid cyclists---we have nine bikes in our home right now...and one motorcycle! We both enjoy eating food we can't pronounce (language doesn't really matter) and going places we've never been. We currently reside in rural Wisconsin, enjoying the cheese and beer it has to offer, and getting outside whenever we can!
There are countless details when planning a wedding. One of them that I recently decided to fixate on was how our wedding bands would make it down the aisle for the ceremony. You see, we have a ring bearer—Salty’s nephew will be two. In my opinion that is the perfect age for such tasks. He’ll be old enough to walk in a straight line (more or less) and young enough to be a bit of a wild card and promise some entertainment for the guests watching.
The with the “who” settled the next question was, “how?”
I have never really liked the traditional ring pillows (some are lovely, but they’re just not my style). The ceramic bowls are nice, but I wanted something different.
OK, so ours will not be shaped like a pick hammer but I decided a cut out book would be perfect. It would be fun, unique, and provide a great chance to to really get my craft on. Without further ado, how to make your very own ring book:

Which has led me to become obsessed with MindMeister.
When I first started following Weddingbee, I was stoked to find Mrs. Pencils, a fellow Maryland bride. I decided to go through most of her old posts to get ideas and information about weddings in the DC/MD area since quite frankly, I was still pretty clueless about a lot of things despite living in the area for over two years. During this process, I found a post where she mentioned MindMeister (you can read it here), an incredible map-it-out, list-type website. To which I now have everything related to the wedding mapped out on:
It is amazing because I tend to lose track of what we already decided on and what ideas I have and don’t have; in a word, it’s fantastic for scatterbrains like myself. The best part, though? Read more…
