Shit's Gettin' Real : wedding atlanta wedding dress My%2Bskunk

Alternate title: “Dress Post #594″

Are y’all tired of hearing my blatherin’ on and on about the dresses? If you said yes, I’m ignoring you. ;) Just to catch you up, I’ve posted about them here, here, and here. And I promise, this is the last one. Maybe.

My aunt had a guy in mind who could handle the alterations I was wanting, so we set up an appointment at her house to meet. Mr. Miller is a British tailor who ended up in south Georgia many years ago after falling in love with a Southern gal. A tailor, by definition, is someone who alters suits and men’s clothing. Needless to say, I was a tad worried.

First thing first, I tried on the ceremony dress with the boots I plan to wear on the wedding day. We, meaning my mom and I, were fairly certain it was going to need some hemming.

With the dress and boots on, though, we realized it was perfect. It didn’t need a thing.

Next up was my mom’s dress. I had a clear vision in my head for what I wanted. Sleeves chopped to three quarters and the hemline shortened. A lot. While I was excited to get to wear my mom’s dress, I wanted it to be my own as well. Mr. Miller was worried I was going to “show my knickers if I bent over too far.” But he started chopping away.

My mom and aunt, who both wore this dress, looked on in horror. I was giggling the whole time, while I’m pretty sure they were having heart attacks and wanting to cry. When all was said and done, I was pinned up, and cut-off material was strewn all over the place. I was hopeful and excited that everything would work out…at this point, I would either have to love it or wear the ceremony dress the whole time.

Several weeks later, I got the call that it was all ready. I put it on and immediately wanted to dance. Y’all, this was seriously gooder than grits. Wanna see?!

Eeeep! I twirled around a bit and probably showed my knickers after all, but I think I’ll probably wear tights the day of. Anyone else make drastic changes to your dress?

Your ceremony dress is soooo pretty! And can I just say that I die a little with jealousy when I see your boots and reception dress. OMG! So stinking hot!

I ordered my dress online and absolutely hated the way it looked in real life (nothing like the picture). So, I talked to my seamstress friend and we are going to chop off the entire top and make a completely new one (one that actually looks like the it was supposed to). The only thing I am using from my dress is the skirt! And the best part–she is doing it for me as a wedding gift! Yay! No cost lol

I should also mention that he charged me only $25 for this! I was so impressed that I made sure to give him a nice tip.

I love the reception dress!! I never would have wanted to wear my mom’s wedding dress (1984, big sleeves, lace..you get the idea) but this makes me want to re-look at it! :)
