About Mrs. Teaspoon

One Month Down, a Lifetime to Go

October 3rd, 2011 @ 9:27 am by Mrs. Teaspoon

Today is our one month anniversary and I am quite possibly the worst wife ever. I am precisely 17,683 km away from my husband (that’s 10,987 miles for the imperial players). I actually used this website to work out that I am actually not that far from the furthest possible point I could possibly be away from him.

If I dug a really deep hole from Sydney, Australia, this is where I would end up:

Yep, that would be just off the coast of Portugal. Next to that is Spain, where I am currently spending our one month anniversary.

The Teaspoons did what any normal newlywed couple would do and dug the top tier of our wedding cake out 2 days early (OK, 11 months and 2 days early, but we were never going to wait a year):

Oh my, doesn’t she look tasty? Well, im sorry to break it to you hive, it was so gross. Admittedly, we went with buttercream chocolate cake, so it was never going to work really well, but something went wrong—I made sure to follow the instructions on this post about preserving the cake, but I just dont think it was meant to happen. OK, that was a lie, I didn’t do squat—I forwarded the post to Mama Teaspoon and I received a lovely boxed cake a few days later for us to pop into our freezer. Moving on, quite unexpectedly, the icing on the other hand was AMAZING! I may or may not have kept cutting slices to eat the icing… I cant help it, I love marzipan!

It was taking up an entire shelf in our freezer, so I’m kind of glad it’s done with to be honest, especially since it was not very yummy.

For the important stuff, our first month of marriage has been amazing, we hit the ground very firmly, as a friend described as a “thud” back to earth after being on cloud 9 for the past few weeks. Going back to work was a shock to the system but its that much easier knowing im going home every night to my husband. I am ready to jump on board with the official name changing when I get back from overseas and then I think it will really sink in—I’m still calling myself Miss Teaspoon, especially at work and on planes because nothing has changed there—this must be fixed!

How did you celebrate your one month anniversary?

Sorry you’re so far away from Mr. T on your month-a-versary! And I’m glad that the frosting was still good. That’s the best part of cake.

We started eating our cake at one month too! Ours however is still delicious, I’m surprised since it has fruit filling. The only part I’m not as keen on is the frosting but DH seems to like it so it all gets eaten. After we got back from the honeymoon (ILs had stashed the unwrapped cake in the freezer for the first two weeks), we sliced it up into 12 more or less equal pieces and then foil and plastic wrapped them. It seems to be working so far…

@Knubbsy-Wubbsy: What a great idea! so glad it still tastes great!

@Mrs. Hyena: Seriously sucks, but maybe some icing will make it better?

@totheislnds: Oooh, maybe I should ask our baker about that? Would love to have tasted the cake fresh!

on my parent’s honeymoon they got to their first hotel to find out nothing was open so late for dinner except mcdonalds. Now every year on their anniversary they eat mcnuggets and drink asti. Such a funny tradition!

Happy one month, Teaspoons! It sucks that you can’t be together for this big day. :( One of my best friends had to spend her entire first year of marriage long distance with her new hubby. And I’m sad to hear your cake didn’t taste good because it looks amazing!

I’m sorry you can’t be with him, but so excited for your one month anniversary! And also, there’s nothing more sad than such a delicious piece of cake turning out to be disgusting. Sad face :(

No fun being apart, and no fun having non-tasty cake. But yay for making your own rules!
