Fauxligraphy

October 4th, 2011 @ 12:31 pm by Miss Petit Four

Fauxligraphy : wedding isla mujeres stationery Picture020 Yeah, apparently that’s not really a word.

But it is awesome. Fauxligraphy is one of the ways I have managed to save money on this wedding! My mom was very proud. :) Instead of hiring someone to address our envelopes for $3 a pop, I found a more resourceful way of doing things. One evening while obsessively looking at fonts on DaFont, I stumbled upon the calligraphy font section. Score!

I immediately went to look at my printer to see if it had the capability of printing envelopes. It does. Turns out most printers can do this…who knew? Heh.

They have a huge selection of awesome fonts (for free!!!!!), and it’s not my fault if you get addicted. I warned you. The font I chose was Freebooter Script and I think it turned out awesome!

Here is an addressed envelope. The envelope I used was an old envelope I had—the printer didn’t make it wrinkly like that. I wanted to show you what it actually looked like on an envelope, but I didn’t want to spare one of my real ones! :D Those things are way too expensive, y’all.

What inexpensive ways have you found to cut back on the wedding budget? I would love to hear them!

Great find! I’m actually hand addressing our invitations. I write in all caps, and the font for our invitations is all caps, so I figure it’s A-OK. Nobody’s going to decline an invitation just because it isn’t hand-calligraphied.

Instead of printing programs or place cards we will be making giant posters for our guests to know who is in the wedding party and where to find their seat. Saves us a ton when we can get cheap frames from IKEA and discounts on poster prints at Walmart

I used typewriter font from dafont too! So cool!

I also made my Cathedral veil with my mom. We bought some tulle from JoAnn Fabric ($23 ish with extra length just in case), and a fancy looking comb from ebay ($10). For under $40, I have a plain Cathedral length veil with an non-detachable elbow length blusher!

We did the exact same thing with our save the dates and our invitations. Looked beautiful, cost close to nothing!

I love that font! I hand-addressed ours because my handwriting was manageable and I only had about 35 envelopes to address. But more than that? Yeah, I probably would have done fauxlligraphy too!

Yay for fauxligraphy! :) Calligraphy is a nice touch but totally not mandatory! Glad to see another bride breaking with tradition. DaFont really is addictive. We’re using Albemarle Swash for our invites.

I’m thinking this is the route we will go also.. but I’m so nervous my printer (or more likely, I) will eff it up somehow. So nerve wracking. I’m glad your test run was a success!

Beautiful font! I never could figure out how to print on our envelopes, so I just went the fauxligraphy route on labels!

I LOVE this idea! I was going to hand write it with my terrible print, but this will save my fingers! Thank you!

That’s exactly what I did, too! I used fonts for peas, and found a script handwriting font that looked a little like my own. No one was the wiser unless I told them!

Mmm, Freebooter Script, how I love thee.

(The only crappy thing about it is if you try to make it small, it gets holes in it…not pixelated, but sort of grunge-looking.)

@Miss Fox: You could always print them on clear labels! : ) It’d be really hard to tell that you’d used one if you buy high-quality ones. (And, honestly, no one cares if you use labels vs. printing directly onto envelopes vs. calligraphy.)

Great idea! And so much more affordable than real calligraphy. :)
