Something: Blue

October 4th, 2011 @ 9:22 am by Miss Doe

My “something blue” comes from my “something borrowed.” I am not sure if it is against some type of wedding law to borrow from other categories like this instead of having a separate item, but that’s all right. I’ll be a wedding rebel.

I would also like to take the time right now to question the person who came up with this whole “something” idea. The old, new, and borrowed are fairly easy to come up with. However, making one of the categories a specific color really throws a wrench in things. They probably just needed to come up with something that rhymed with “new.” In my opinion, they should have been less creative to help future brides out. I digress.

Nothing that is blue has really stood out to me to use as part of my ensemble for the day, apart from my grandma’s garter. To tie up this series, I present to you my something blue.

I recently was made aware that my mom borrowed her something blue from another category as well. You guessed it, that pretty blue garter. I sense a new tradition forming. Again, I ask, does it still count? Well, my parents have been married for 27 years, so I would answer that with an resounding yes. So, gosh darn it, I am going to borrow from another category for my something blue, too, just like my mom did.

Will you be borrowing from other categories to fulfill the something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?

I think it’s okay to double dip :) I might double dip on old and borrowed!

I have too many ideas for blue things–one of my friends painted her nails blue, which I loved (although I don’t think my family would think it was so cool). And I also like the idea of writing something in blue rhinestones on the soles of my shoes.

Go on with your bad self, you rebel. ;) I think borrowing is totally ok!

I love this series of yours! I had everything down, except for the blue. I had planned to use a small religious medallion that was my grandfather’s - but I can’t find it anywhere! However I managed to get a something blue that’s also a something old, though not necessarily my ONLY something old. I have a lot of crossover, and like three something borrowed’s :) And of course… lots of somethings new.

Well, the whole poem also includes a “silver sixpence in her shoe,” and seeing how everyone leaves THAT part out, I think you’d be just fine double-dipping!

I think it totally counts! I didn’t deliberately go out of my way to get “something” for each category, but when asked on my wedding day, I realized that I had “something” for the “old,” “new,” and “borrowed” categories, though nothing blue! Unless you count Mr. P’s gorgeous eyes. :) So I agree–having a color as a requirement is totally ridiculous! And why couldn’t they at least have picked one of my wedding colors?

Haha thanks everyone for the reassurance! Now, the real question is can your something borrowed count as borrowing from another category? Haha, okay that’s confusing. And yah, not many people do the silver sixpence…I kinda always forget about that little category :)

My something new and borrowed was going to be a blue garter. It may still be, we’ll see.
