Mrs. Fox's Picture
Mrs. Fox, Washington DC/Havre de Grace, MD Age and Occupation: 26, Massage Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Field Support Engineer Engagement Date: April 18, 2010 Wedding Date: June 2012 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m a dancer turned massage therapist who was born and raised in New York. Alas, true love has brought me “south” where I still maintain my penchants for pretty shoes, wine, crossword puzzles, cherry blossoms, and the Mets. I own more sunglasses than a normal person should and don’t eat red meat (though I make up for it by eating my weight in sushi). I tend to be a big planner who likes to get things started early, but generally end up being indecisive and procrastinating when it comes down to it. I have a (not so) secret crush on Chris Carrabba, but my loyalty and love ultimately goes to the future hubs, of course! Together, my Foxy man and I love to discuss (read: debate) politics and current events, have Mario Kart and Scrabble duels, and just laugh. A lot. We’re hoping and planning for a laid back, fun, summery, rustic vibe to our June wedding that will be genuinely “us” – that is, if we finally make some decisions. Huzzah!

Blooms

October 5th, 2011 @ 6:53 am by Mrs. Fox

Awhile back, one of my favorite wedding inspiration sites, Sparkle & Hay, posted a picture of this gorgeous, beautiful, big-bloom bouquet that is my current must-have of the moment.

Blooms : wedding flowers havre de grace Bigblo big+blo

I die every time I look at this!

It took me a few days, but I was able to pinpoint its origin to being from Petal and Print, which was featured on Project Wedding not too long ago. Thanks to one of my bridal magazines, I have since learned that it has an official name: a composite or glamelia bouquet. Composites can be made out of real flowers (as well as the fabric/silk/what have you, as seen above) by taking individual petals from multiple flowers and gluing them together to make one large bloom. It used to be really popular in the early 20th century, but has yet to make a comeback. This is partially due to the fact that they cost a pretty penny for all the work involved in making one, whether it’s out of real flowers or artificial material.

That being said, if I really want that exact bouquet or one like it…well, I don’t know. Chances are I won’t be able to afford one, but a girl can dream!

fresh flowers might be pricey, but i bet you could make it out of nice silk roses on the cheap…well, relatively cheap. just find some nice, large silk roses and get to gluing/stapling :)

they are quite stunning!

This is one of those rare things in the wedding world that is understandably pricey because of the sheer time it takes to create by hand.

i had a glamelia for my bouquet! i saw one on an episode of say yes to the dress and i fell in love! mine were made out of bright pink hibiscus’. everyone complimented me on it and said how unique it was. my florist only cost me $125 for it, not sure how that ranks, but it was what i wanted and decided to go for it. i thought it was going to be much more expensive. if you want to see a picture of it, message me and i can send you some.

This is beautiful, but honestly the picture above reminds me of some crepe paper flowers that I make. You use double sided crepe paper, which is a little more sturdy, and when you’re done putting the flower together, you stretch the crepe and shape it to look like real petals.

You could totally DIY this! It kind of reminds me of this pillow tutorial: http://www.cluckclucksew.com/2008/09/petal-pillow-tutorial.html

Maybe you could use bits and pieces of that tutorial with silk flower petals?

@Miss Funnel Cake: Right?! With the size and intensity of it, you don’t even need color!
@Zusie: Totally agree – it can take hours to make one of these.
@sarbear2814: I’m so intrigued! PMing you now :)
