Miss Fox, Washington DC/Havre de Grace, MD Age and Occupation: 26, Massage Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Field Support Engineer Engagement Date: April 18, 2010 Wedding Date: June 2012 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m a dancer turned massage therapist who was born and raised in New York. Alas, true love has brought me “south” where I still maintain my penchants for pretty shoes, wine, crossword puzzles, cherry blossoms, and the Mets. I own more sunglasses than a normal person should and don’t eat red meat (though I make up for it by eating my weight in sushi). I tend to be a big planner who likes to get things started early, but generally end up being indecisive and procrastinating when it comes down to it. I have a (not so) secret crush on Chris Carrabba, but my loyalty and love ultimately goes to the future hubs, of course! Together, my Foxy man and I love to discuss (read: debate) politics and current events, have Mario Kart and Scrabble duels, and just laugh. A lot. We’re hoping and planning for a laid back, fun, summery, rustic vibe to our June wedding that will be genuinely “us” – that is, if we finally make some decisions. Huzzah!

Show Me the Glamelias!

October 6th, 2011 @ 2:30 pm by Miss Fox

I mentioned previously my love of the glamelia bouquet. I did a bit more research and realized that these are indeed starting to make a small comeback thanks to Katherine Heigl using one as her bouquet when she got married a few years ago.

I turned to our good friend Etsy to see what they had in terms of artificial glamelia bouquets, and was actually quite surprised with what I found at Flowers by the Vase’s shop.

I had to verify that this was actually made of “real to life” artificials and not real flowers! I think it looks just stunning. I contacted the shop’s owners, Jodi and Nicole, who also showed me a mock-up of what a smaller, peachy-orange bridesmaid bouquet would look like.

This one is a little more “fake” looking, in my opinion, but it still makes me swoon. This was honestly the first time I actually got excited about flowers in regard to the wedding. I’m just imagining myself and my girls taking amazeballs pictures with our fab florals (regardless of what they are).

So, I’m obviously nowhere near ready to buy anything yet, but it’s good to have options. Oh, and the price for a bridal bouquet and five smaller bridesmaids ones from Flowers by the Vase? Less than the ONE mentioned in this post. Yes, please.

In my giddiness, I ran the idea past Foxy Mama—using artificial flower petals to create a one-of-a-kind bouquet.

“Miss Foxy Foxypants (that’s my middle name, BTW), no. Use real flowers.”

Boh. OK, Mom.

She’s probably right, anyway. We’re having an outdoor spring wedding. It’s almost sacrilege to NOT have real flowers. Plus I have some ideas for that, too…I just thought the glamelias would make such a fun statement, no?

Katherine Heigl made such a gorgeous bride. *swoon* I think our florist made a similar type of bouquet out of fresh flowers. Let me try and find a link for you…

I’ve never heard of or seen one of these before but I really don’t like it, sorry! However, I’d say go with it despite what your mum says because it made YOU excited and that is really special. I’d love it if you loved it.

As soon as I saw your first post, I started googling the heck out of glamelia bouquets… Planning on getting a few silk roses this weekend to see if its even remotely possible as a DIY.

Wow! Those are absolutely gorgeous–and you wouldn’t have to worry about wilting. Sounds good to me ;)

I really love those. I never saw them before you blogged about it. Maybe you can do just your bouquet as a glamelia? Then have the bridesmaids carry real flowers. Just keep your bouquet the same color as the real flowers, and it wouldn’t even stand out funny. Just a thought!

They can make these with real flower petals, right? You can have both!

i’m sort of biased(since i carried one) but i say go for it. it obviously is something you really want(or you wouldn’t have 2 posts on it!). and i had my bridesmaids carry cala lillies because of the cost and because i wanted my bouquet to stand out. but i definitely say go for it!!!!! :o)

Or have you researched dahlia’s? Because I know they can be very large and I think they bloom in spring/ summer. That would be similar to your vision and keeping with the real flowers your mom wants! I found some real wedding pictures of them online…

@Mrs. Jaguar: Yes! That bouquet is just gorgeous!
@MistyLuv79: There’s a mini-DIY tutorial here: http://kugab.blogspot.com/2009/04/my-glamelia-bouquet.html
@Miss Porcupine: And a wonderful thought it is! Taking everything into consideration, for sure.
@Foxy Mama: Lol. Thanks mom ;)
@autumn865: I”ve definitely considered it! I believe they are called dinner plate dahlia’s.. definitely make a statement!

I agree with going with what you want! If that is the first thing that has made you excited, go with it! although there is plenty of time to research a great option for both of you :-)

Those are gorgeous! I liked the look of dinner plate dahlias - similar in that they can be HUGE. However, I am in the midwest and there is no where near that can supply them. I went with football mums instead… they give that large, soft effect and are much more affordable!
You should do what you want, but you can get a very full effect with real flowers as well!

Haha I *thought* Foxy Mama might be your mom. Fantastic. I say go with what you want though! You don’t have to do stuff just because it’s expected :)

Oh, the glamelias are gorgeous! I’ve seen them around the interwebs a bit and love them every time.
With real petals they’d be to-die-for. The faux still have that great lush look, though!

Man, I am so torn for you, Foxy! On the one hand, these glamelias are awesome! But on the other, I kind of agree with your mom–real flowers are just so awesome! I guess you can’t go wrong with whatever you decide!
