Miss Doe, Northern California Age and Occupation: 24, Real Estate Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Recycling Manager Engagement Date: December 25, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2012 Venue: Monte Verde Inn About Me: I’m a Rat Pack fan and a Christmas nut that loves to read, good wine, cheesy ’80s movies and ’90s sitcoms. My wiener dog with an attitude problem and lazy basset hound are my constant source of entertainment. He's a hunter and I like cooking so it's not rare to see wild game on our dinner menu. Both of us were born and raised in a small historic farming town where our feet are still firmly planted. We have been together for nearly a decade and have shared many life experiences together, including birthdays that are only one day apart. We are two old souls that are creating our long-awaited wedding with loads of tradition that blends our two styles into rustic elegance in the foothills of Northern California.

There’s a Hole in This Cake

October 6th, 2011 @ 9:02 am by Miss Doe

I am going to be perfectly honest with you. Before becoming engaged and obsessing over all things wedding, I had no clue what bunting was. The first time I heard of bunting, my first thought was maybe they meant bundt. (Come on, I know I am not the only one.) Maybe instead of having a candy bar they were doing various types of bundt cakes? In fact, whenever a bundt cake is mentioned in my family, typically we quote this scene from My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Even now that I am well aware of what bunting is, I still correlate it to a bundt cake. Ya know, the kind with a hole in it.

I have had months to ogle these pretty little flags. I officially fell into a “gimme gimme I have to have it” state of mind. I finally went on a mad search on Etsy. I came across burlap bunting with glittery writing by seller funkyshique. This was spot on with the style of the wedding. You have the burlap, which is all rustic-like and the glittery writing to add a pretty flare. I thought for a split second that maybe I could DIY. Then I realized from past experiences that I should probably be restrained from glitter to protect all those around me, including myself. This was probably not the best project for me to DIY. I then sent a message to funkyshique to see if we could do a little customization.

I cannot say enough incredible things about this seller. She corresponded with me for nearly three weeks until we decided exactly what I wanted. Her work is outstanding and she is so dang creative. You go, girl.

Here is the finished work.

To be hung on the cake table:

To be hung on our chairs. Because ya know, people may not know who we are:

My personal favorite, to be hung on the bar:

OK, I need to show you a closeup of those beers. Seriously, way too freakin’ cute. Yum, look at that frothy goodness.

I am so impressed with how these turned out. It’s the little details that make a big difference to me.

Who else will be using bunting? And please tell me I am not the only one who assumed bunting and bundt were one and the same?

These are too cute for words! I hear you on the Bunt vs. Bunting thing… I thought it was a verb! HA. But really I had always seen those things referred to as pennants…I wonder if there is a difference.

The Cheers sign is perfect!! Would it be weird to get one for our apartment? Cause I think I need it.

Beautiful! You’re right, the beers are awesome, frothy, glittery goodness!

No worries, Doe.. I definitely did not understand the bunting thing either, except I related it baseball and got royally confused. I now have a major crush on it thanks to the ‘Bee!

@Miss Aardvark: I think you can also call them penants? I dunno…I just call them banners haha
@adria1211: haha, I love that aunt in the movie…too funny!
@Miss Porcupine: HEY! It still took a lot of work to order them…..okay not really. But there was no I was going to attempt to make those. They are WAY too cute, so I just had to buy them haha.
@Mrs. Pony: GET ONE! I am sooo hanging it up in my house after the wedding!
@Miss Fox: Haha I thought baseball too! But, I went with bundt since I had a better story for it haha.
@pookiepie: do it! :)
@Coffee cup: I know, I mean because I won’t be the one in the big white dress…right? haha :)

These are beautiful, but girl, you should’ve made these! Glitter ribbon works cleaner and just as well as glued on glitter.

I made bunting that spelled out save-the-date for our e-pics and STDs. I did a post about it.
