A Strategically Placed Wedding

October 7th, 2011 @ 7:51 am by Miss Petit Four

Our wedding will be on a Tuesday. Weird I know, but I promise we have a good reason.

Mr. PF and I are both teachers and we will be having the wedding during spring break. We visited the island during the summertime and it was way too hot with way too many chances of rain. We have a lot of family and friends that are also teachers and work for the district, so they will have that time off also.

We know it wont be convenient for everyone but no wedding, destination or not, will ever accommodate every single person. We did what was right for us and as long as my groom is there waiting for me at the end of the aisle, I’ll be perfectly happy.

How did you pick your wedding date? Did you choose another day besides Saturday? Why?

That didn’t actually explain why you choose a Tuesday. Spring break usually spans two weekends plus the week, so you could have still had a weekend wedding.

We’re having a Friday wedding to help cut down on costs.

We’re having a Sunday monring wedding followed by a lunch reception. My fiance is Jewish and wants to be married by a Rabbi so so Saturday wedding for us :) The Sunday is actully working out to our benefit though as we’re getting lunch pricing (which is half the cost of the dinner package) and it will make it so my little nephew and godson to be able to participate

My future hubs and I chose May 5, 2012 as our date…We met in Mexico, so what better way to recognize that than to celebrate on Cinco de Mayo! It just happens to fall on a Saturday in 2012, so we lucked out.

Our wedding is on a Saturday, I have a funny story about this subject. In hs/college I worked at a zoo in the Catered Events Dept where they do weddings. There was a bride who really wanted to have a weekend wedding, but didn’t like her groom’s family so she decided to have their wedding on a Wednesday night so they would not be able to come. Well, his entire family worked around their schedules and were all able to make it. I guess Karma really does come back to bite you. haha

I think it’s really cool, probably very few people will have your wedding date and this way everyone will be able to travel to given their schedules!

We are having ours on Monday evening because we are both theatre artists and so is most of our bridal party and that is the universal day off for theatre professionals. Plus the discounts didn’t hurt.

@amyalmighty:

Yay for 05/05, that’s my wedding day too! When we finalized the date we didn’t even remember of Cinco de Mayo, just an easy date to remember :)

Our wedding is on a Friday! You gotta do whatever works best for you and whoever is meant to be there, will be there ;) Sounds like you’ve got that all figured out already anyhow, Miss P!

Makes sense to me! We chose to have our wedding during autumn school time, which is not convenient to all the people in school or with jobs, but that’s when the weather is best in Ohio and the flights from Switzerland are more affordable! Weather and your own travel plans are definitely priority!

It works for you, so it works! Plus it gives people an awesome excuse to take an extended vacation ;)

Our wedding is on a Thursday because it’s our anniversary. We struggled with the decision for a couple weeks, but ultimately decided getting married on a day that has meaning was important for us. Fortunately, it’s in the middle of summer and we live in coastal NC, so everyone’s seeing it as an excuse for a vacation!

We’re having a small, intimate formal Friday night wedding & dinner, followed by a great big informal whiz-bang of a party on Saturday night.

For us, the idea being surrounded only by our closest and most intimate family and friends for our actual nuptials followed by a leisurely dinner was the perfect wedding celebration.

For our extended families & friends, the opportunity to mix & mingle and eat & drink the next day without all the trappings of a traditional “reception” was a welcome change of pace.

We chose Sunday of Memorial Day weekend bc the prices were better and our guests had one day to travel there and one day to travel back! It worked out great for us!

@Zusie: Our spring break is only 1 week long and we wanted to give ourselves time before the wedding to get things ready. Also, we wanted to be able to spend some time with our friends and family after the wedding! :)

Ours is on a Saturday because we’re making it a weekend event in order to spend the most time with everyone. We’re rented out a lodge close to the ceremony/reception site Fri/Sat/Sun nights that holds 25 people who we’ll be staying and partying with all weekend!

Friday will be rehearsal dinner, followed by welcome party w/ a bonfire at the lodge we rented out.

Saturday is the big day.

Sunday is a late brunch, white water rafting, and a giant game of capture the flag for any of our friends that stay the whole weekend. ;)

We were tempted to have a Friday or Sunday wedding to save $$$, but it wasn’t worth the inconvenience to our many out-of-town guests. Having the extra money would have been nice to put toward our honeymoon!

My great grandmother was married on a Wednesday. “That was the day that everyone got married back then!” she said.
Once you’re all on the Isla Mujeres, I don’t think it will matter WHAT day it is!

Ours is on a Sunday, which works out for two reasons: it’s on our fourth dating anniversary (4/1) and since I work in a tax office, it’s the only day the office isn’t open.
