Mrs. Seal's Picture
Mrs. Seal, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 25, Personal Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Sales and Support Specialist Engagement Date: December 12, 2009 Wedding Date: November 2011 Venue: Sts Peter and Paul Church/The Bently Reserve About Me: I am a goofy, wannabe crafty, well-intentioned Renaissance Woman (OK, perhaps "aimless wanderer" is a more aptly suited term for me, but hopefully you get the point)—basically I dabble in just about everything and pride myself in such. Without warning, I occasionally breakout into soulful improvised songs and interpretive dances and there's just no stopping me! As so many others before me, planning our wedding has unearthed a deep, intense passion for all things bridal and I secretly fear the day it will come to an end. Mr. Seal and I are quite the pair and life with him by my side is extremely rewarding—I am so thankful to have found him. Together we are planning a black-tie San Francisco affair for 250—light on the stuffiness and with lots of extra Seal-y flair.
About Mrs. Seal

Licensed to Wed!

October 7th, 2011 @ 12:01 pm by Mrs. Seal

Welp, kids…the Sealman and I officially applied for our marriage license and, I’ve gotta say, it was exciting.

We began the day by finishing up the very last of our church paperwork and—despite an onslaught of relentless rain—decided to take care of our license, too.

At our local parish waiting for our letter of permission to get married in San Francisco.

(Don’t mind my hair—we had just taken refuge from the torrential downpour outside. Mr. Seal was mocking me, but the joke is on him because I’ve just shared his goof-face with the world wide webzzz.)

Thankfully the town in which Mr. Seal and I live also happens to serve as the county seat, so we didn’t have to travel too far in the storm to take care of our soon-to-be-married business.

I was well aware that I’d need to have made my name change decision by the time we applied for marriage and, thanks to some wondrous advice from all of you, was prepared to make my choice. (In case you all are wondering, I agreed with the majority and decided to drop my middle name, replace it with my current last name and take Mr. Seal’s last name as my new one.) Despite having made said decision, I did have some mixed emotions upon seeing my new name written on its first official document—part of me was giddy, and another small piece of me was reluctant to bid adieu to my current last name (even if it is just shifting to the middle). I think it was more that I felt filling in a box on an application wasn’t ceremonious enough—ha, but I suppose that’s what the wedding is for, eh?

Anyway, the very sweet clerk had an infectious smiled and seemed to really enjoy helping us which greatly contributed to the experience! We both left with huge grins on our face.

Mr. Seal diligently reading “Your Future Together,” the booklet given to us along with our marriage license.

Wow. We’re getting married! It’s official. ;)

Have you gotten your license yet? Are you changing your name? Was it weird!?

So exciting!! I’m still battling with the whole name change thing - I’m liking the idea of changing my last name to my middle name more and more, though!

Yayyyyy! I’m changing just my last name, keeping everything else. It’s just easiest, and I don’t have any compunctions with leaving my last name behind - I think it’s kind of an honor to take his name anyway (I’m such an old lady). But I’m sure it will be weird!!! Anyway, my current last name would be a strange middle name.

They just gave us a pamphlet on how to change my name and the license- no fancy information on our future together. Fancy Californians!

Wait, does this mean I too get a book like that since I am also a fancy Californian? Or is it only for those super duper fancy bay area peeps? ;)

We didn’t get a book! We did ours in Santa Clara County, so maybe it’s a north bay thing?? LOL.
I did the same thing with my name, dropped my middle name, added new last name. It’s kinda weird to be honest. To be Shea Anne LastName, now Shea MaidenName NewLastName. I’m not quuuuuiiiite used to it yet but it’s been less than a month. It’s hard too since my work has been the slowest part of the whole name change, so I still see and use my maiden name on a daily basis. And I KNOW people will still call me by my maiden name. But in the long run, I’m really confident in my decision, I think it will help for those things that I forget to change my name on, that I can say, oh no, I’m still Shea MaidenName, see!?!? Haha. And I’m reluctant to let go of that part of me. At least it’s still there.

Every time I think I have the name situation figured out, I worry that it is some colossal mistake. It will probably end up being however I feel the day we fill out paperwork.
Hope we get a booklet too!
