About Miss Aardvark

Picture This!

October 8th, 2011 @ 1:00 pm by Miss Aardvark

Our hunt for a photographer was pretty simple. From the get-go we had planned on having a family friend do it. Cheap.Easy.Done. So, instead of obsessing over photographers I started to search for videographers. (I wasn’t sure if we needed a videographer at this point, but I had to obsess over something!)

Unfortunately one of the first videographers I stumbled across was WAY out of our (budget) league. They produced videos with the production quality of Titanic with dramatic music and timing that had zero “home video” feel to them. I was smitten. Mr. Aardvark was not. I pouted for a while about “wanting the best quality documentation” for such an important day. He pointed out that we could get a perfectly lovely video made that would not triple our wedding budget. And, being the sweetheart that he is, he looked up a whole heap of local vendors and sifted through them to find his favorite few. From there, there was one that stood out above the rest: Michael Terri Studios.

They were just what I was looking for—a husband and wife team who had been doing weddings for years and were within our budget and, most important, were very prompt to reply to questions and emails. We signed the contract and felt very good about ourselves.

Then, the wheels started turning again. You see, our family friend is an amazing photographer; however, he is also a close friend, and asking him to work and feel obligated to catch all of the little “moments” as opposed to kicking back and enjoying himself didn’t seem fair. We chatted and decided it would be best to hire a pro to ensure everyone had a good time and enjoyed themselves. Michael Terri Studios also happens to offer photography that, when packaged with videogaphy, is CRAZY affordable! Not only that, but the pictures were great. Not trying too hard, but still artsy, fun, and natural; he really seems to have a knack for catching great moments. Want to see a few of my faves?

I really love that last one. So, about two days after we had sent off our video contract, we called him up again and asked if we could switch to the combo deal. He happily agreed and that was that. Mr. A and I are both really looking forward to working with them!

Oh! Added bonus: FREE engagement shoot, AND they tipped us off on a great DJ.

Did you have any of the big chunks easily fall into place?

Oh man, jealous of your easy vendor search! :P I didn’t have any photos friends (or friends with photo friends) so I was just clueless. I have probably given up on videography at this point… but every time one of y’all brings up videography again I waaaant it.

Good going! Those are great photos and sounds like an awesome deal! I scored with our photog. And my current obsession is videography…but their prices more or less make me want to cry. So I’ve been on the search for an affordable one.

Hmmm my last picture doesn’t seem to be showing up… Odd….

@Miss Funnel Cake, I was so impressed when I read about your international vendor hunting skills! I think it will be well worth the effort! :)

That was so nice of Mr. Aardvark to look for less expensive alternatives! Mr. Dalmatian is frequently having to reel me in so I don’t go (more) over budget, so I totally understand. Those pics are great - I love how happy the bride looks in the first one!

We had a friend do our photos. We felt really bad that he wouldn’t be able to fully enjoy as a guest either, but once we had asked him, we felt bad saying we couldn’t have him as he had already bought a new camera, and was reading all these blogs! He did a fantastic job and got some amazing candid shots, even though he had to do these on an overcast day with 40 mph winds, and two people who close their eyes or make funny faces often!

wow that really worked out great for you! Congrats! We had a lot of our big things fall easily into place, using a DJ and photographer recommended from some friends and booking our venue at the restaurant where my best friend works! Things just always seem to have a way of working themselves out!

all my vendors fell into place because they have there offices at the venue! that way it made it super easy… the Dj if we used the one with the venue suggested we got the whole crazy lighting package included for no extra charge… so we get crazy laser light show on the dance floor and uplight for the whole venue and a bubble machine for the first dance the bubbles come from the ceiling it sounds weird but it is super elegant and very classy…

I’m just starting to look into videographers but our wedding is a year away so I am not sure if it is too soon to be looking into these things?
