Here Comes the Barn

Like many brides, as soon as we got engaged I was ready to dive head first into wedding planning. For me, the first task at hand was finding the ideal venue, and finding the ideal venue meant one thing—a barn! Let me give you a little background so that you understand where I am coming from.

When I was little, my dream was to move to Wisconsin and live on a farm. My family and I spent every summer at our grandparents’ house in Door County, Wsiconsin, and I was in love with the grazing horses, cornfields, and dairy farms that passed by my window as we drove through rural America.

My career plans have since transitioned from farming to nursing, but a love for barns has remained with me. So when I daydreamed about where I wanted to get married (which, let’s be honest, was pretty much happening 24/7), the following images danced through my head.

There is just something about barns that is so naturally romantic. I can’t resist! I tried not to get my heart too set on having a barn wedding in case we couldn’t find a venue that met our needs and had a barn on the property, but as I came across more and more images of brides and barns, my obsession only grew. I love the juxtaposition of a crisp white dress against rough wood panels. I am just dying to have photos like these from our wedding day:

So dreamy. As we began visiting venues, I kept my fingers crossed that we could find the perfect wedding barn for us. Luckily, there are plenty of options here in Tennessee! In fact, our venue is featured in one of the photos in this post…but we’ll get more into that later!

I am currently planning my August 25, 2012 wedding, and after talking it over with my parents, we have decided to have the ceremony in one of our hay fields with the dairy in the background. We are planning to take pics around the farm-and barns!-but aren’t quite sure where to have the reception yet. I always envisioned a BIG white tent… twinkling lights…simple, classic, rustic elegance! We’ll see though!

Yay for barns! And who wouldn’t love to live in WI ( I may be a little biased). We are also doing a farm wedding and we can’t be more excited!

We are having a barn wedding in October of 2012 in Pennsylvania. I’m looking forward to having pics with all the red wood of the barn in the background. And that upper deck has fun written all over it.

I’m with Pony - one of my other dream weddings would have been in a barn too. There is an orchard nearby and they built a gorgeous barn to host events. Swoon! WAY out of the budget but maybe in another life!

I love barns too! My venue has a barn on it..mainly just for pictures though haha, they don’t hold the reception or anything in it.

I just got married at a barn 2 weeks ago! I looove barns. Although my barn was a little fancier, we made sure all the details were rustic so the overall feeling wouldn’t be fancy-shmancy! I can’t wait to see what venue you chose!

I am totally a barn-loving bride! It wasn’t a must-have for us (obviously), but it definitely matches the wedding “feel” we were going for. I looked a few barns here, but they are so expensive in the Bay Area! Thankfully our venue had some cool old barn-esque buildings, so it all worked out.
