Ms. Ferris Wheel's Picture
Ms. Ferris Wheel, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 29, Psychologist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Psychologist Engagement Date: May 23 and 28, 2010 (one for each of us!) Wedding Date: November 2011 Venue: Parc55 Hotel (city lights ceremony, ballroom reception) About Me: Born in the Southeast, educated in the Northeast, and over-educated on the West Coast, I finally earned my city-girl credentials and have put down roots in gorgeous San Francisco. I’m a raging perfectionist with a lightning quick wit and a terrible sense of both time and direction. Our wedding task list is endlessly growing because of my predilection to think that DIY projects I can make = DIY projects I should make (so not true!). I always go to bed wishing there were more hours in the day to enjoy all the things I adore, whether that be hobbies, friends, my career, our two dogs, or Mr. Ferris Wheel. Ours is a story of a non-traditional couple living an oddly traditional life planning a not-so-traditional wedding in this city we adore. Together we are bustin’ out all of our best skills (and some of our worst ones) to plan a laid-back-chic DIY-craftastic love-alicious affair!

Identifying the Yummies

October 10th, 2011 @ 1:40 pm by Ms. Ferris Wheel

After this wedding, I’m pretty sure I’ll never want to create any sort of signage/labels/tags ever again. Because let me tell ya, our guests are going to be the most fully-informed, non-confused, wedding guests ever. As things have gotten down to the wire we decided to nix a few of the signs on our list because, in all of our wedding brain craziness, we came to our senses and realized our guests could probably figure some stuff out on their own (like, say, where the bathrooms are or how in the world to navigate the fifteen feet between the elevators and the ceremony space).

There were some signs that were always non-negotiable for us though, and those were the ones that were meant to be functional while also adding some crucial design flare (and, let’s be honest here, that would make for some incredibly cool detail shots). Labels for the dessert buffet and the candy buffet definitely fell into that category.

As is probably true with all good design, these little devils look much more beautifully simplistic than they actually were to create.

We’re so proud of how they turned out, though, and are immensely relived that they’re finished. So relieved, in fact, that I forgot to take pictures of the dessert buffet tags before we packed them away, which means you’ll just have to wait for the pro pics to come back to see how those turned out.

But… here are some pics I did take during the process of attaching the candy buffet labels to our jars. (And in true Ferris Wheel fashion, the ribbon I used for this has been discontinued and I ran out halfway through the job. So cross your fingers that our feverish internet search actually yields the right replacement ribbon!)

Now, on to the pictures!

Any chance that you’ll be over-informing the guests at your wedding? And admit it—you like pretty signs too, right?

Those signs are cute! I was also wondering where you got the containers–sorry if you blogged about this and I just forgot! I’ve been shopping around for my candy buffet and those apothecary jars are so dang expensive!

I’m a sucker for pretty signs. I think that’s why I wanted a display of something…anything ;)

I love pretty signs! And these are so cute. Better to be overinformed than underinformed!

Those are adorable! And it sounds like you will have a very yummy dessert buffet :)

Mama Dalmatian is a huge fan of thorough signage. She judges a city based on whether or not there are proper signs at the airport, so I’m sure she would very much appreciate your wedding directions!

OMG I love those!! I am all about the cutesy little food signs, so I totally love these. We’re going to be doing something similar for our buffet food…your pictures make me excited all over again to get started on them!

I never actually made signs for what flavours of pie there were, but people figured it out. :) It was one of those things I meant to do but never did.

These are so cute!! Dessert buffet signs were one of the signs I really wanted too, but I just couldn’t get them done in time. Living vicariously through the FW wedding even more now :)

As a food scientist, I will be labeling all of our desserts with possible allergens. I just can’t not tell people. It’s force of habit.

@ktell16: We got them from a number of places. One or two came from Ross, where they were $10/each. Two or three came from Michael’s, and with a 40% off coupon they were $18-$25 each. Then I found the rest through Craigslist from a bride who was selling them after her wedding. If you’re in the area, I’ll have 16 for sale in just a little over a month. :-)

@Miss Honey: I’m totally with you, H!

@Mrs. Hyena: I couldn’t agree more. :-)

@Miss Dalmatian: Here here, Mama D!

@Kant: Oh, so glad to have inspired excitement! I’m sure they’ll be fabulous.

@Mrs. Cinnamon Bun: I know we’ll have things like that, too. Not the worst thing to have to try all the different kinds of pie, right? ;-)

@elliestan: You and me both, sister!

@Mrs. Pony: So happy to help. :)

@Future Army Wife: I love that! It’s informative and also personal - a smashing combo!

Super nice! I think our venue does this…

I’m doing that with all of my projects these days…oh I’m pretty sure the venue handles that. ;\

Oh man, I was OBSESSED with all things wedding signage/labels. I eventually had to start letting things go because it was just so out of control.
