About Miss Aardvark

Novel Idea…

October 10th, 2011 @ 10:30 am by Miss Aardvark

Wedding planning has been rolling right along at the Aardvark house. We have all of the majors out of the way and are somewhere near that “in between” time I’ve heard so much about. However, there are still little wedding things that pop up now and then that need to be taken care of.

Well, lately work has gotten really busy for me (in a good but still stressful way), and last night I came home and realized I had never actually booked a block of hotel rooms. I had, a few weeks ago, emailed back and forth with the hotel we had decided to book with. And then totally dropped the ball. It was not an emergency or anything, it had just fallen off of my radar and happened to pop back on when I was just too tuckered out to handle it. (Yes, folks, I am saying I was too tired to open my computer and type, “Sounds good. We’ll take x number of rooms. Please and thank you.”)

What’s a bride to do?! Well, the answer may be very clear to you clever ladies (and gents), but it seemed totally novel to me at the time. It went something like this:

“Mr. Aardvark, will you please email the hotel lady?”

And just like that it was taken care of! Like magic or something! Now, I hope you do not get the impression that this is the first time Mr. Aardvark has contributed to the wedding planning, because it most certainly is not! He made our (amazing) wedding website all by himself, and he is totally in charge of honeymoon plans. On top of that he has been very helpful with my various crafts and is always asking if I need anything.

However, being the do-it-yourself type that I am, I sometimes forget to ask for help. Re-remembering that Mr. A is on my wedding-planning team was awesome. Handing something off felt great! I don’t think I will type him out a six-page list or anything, but it’s nice to be reminded someone has your back!

Did you need something to remind you that you were not alone in wedding planning? You do know that you are not alone, right? I mean, at the very least you have the hive! ;)

Ahhh this was one of the BEST things I learned when I was planning my wedding. When I let everyone who wanted to help out, help out, I was left with so much more energy to do what I like to do: dream big and create ideas. The one thing I always tell my clients is: delegate, delegate, delegate. Thanks for the reminder!

Oh Aardy!!! This post could not have come at a more perfect time. I swear I am planning this alone, I have two non-involved BMs, my MOH sis lives two states away and I have no family to speak of here. I lose it after yesterdays Wedding Fair, that I went alone to, BTW when I say those exact words, I am planning this by myself. The mister is awesome, hugs me, tells me anything I need I am to tell him and then he made me take a nap, I was a bit cranky….I have to start asking for help more I think.

I definitely loved delegating things to Mr. P, it always made me feel better!

Ahh, yes!
The Mr. has been so wonderful about stepping in and checking things off the wedding to-do list. It is such a relief to hand off whole wedding-chunks to him; rehearsal dinner venue, hotel rooms, website, etc.

Hooray for hotel blocks! Note to self: need to get on this. And Foxy always reminds me that I do indeed have help out there.. I just need to ask. Which is hard for me to do sometimes! Glad Mr. A is there to help for you!

@Miss Doe, It did take them awhile to get back to us after he sent the e-mail…. And we are still waiting on them to send papers in the mail come to think of it…..

I am so like you! It’s not like Mr. Skunk wouldn’t or doesn’t help, it’s just that I forget to ask. He’s been great though when I do remember and I handed him reins of the honeymoon.

I’m so glad you remembered to ask for help! It’s so important. My favorite part of wedding planning was pawning off all the tasks I didn’t want to do on Mr. P. OK, that makes me sound terrible, but actually, all the things I didn’t want to do were things he enjoyed and was actually good at, so it all worked out!
