Heart Punch Woes

October 13th, 2011 @ 11:00 am by Miss Doe

I wanted to use a heart hole punch instead of a plain circle one to make holes in our wish tags. The search for a heart shaped hole punch has proven to be less than fruitful. Most punches I found punched the heart upside-down, so I returned those. I came across another heart shaped hole punch made by Martha Stewart that looked as though it would be perfect. I scoped it out in the store and it did indeed punch the right side up.

You are thinking this is going to have a happy ending, right? That would be a big N-O. Unfortunately it punches an abnormally large heart. Who needs one that big?!

It looks real cute and all but it is too large for these wish tags. I should have paid more attention to the size when I bought it. I was too busy jumping up and down with excitement in the aisle of Michaels because I found one that punched right side up. This meant I had to trek back to Michaels one more time to return yet another heart shaped hole punch. They know me by my name now. They just looked at me and said, “that one didn’t work out either?” This also marked my fourth trip to Michaels in a one week time span.

There were no more punches for me to try so I had to settle for a plain ol’ circle hole punch.

At least they were 50% off so I did score a good deal. I am slightly perturbed that I could not find the hole punch that I wanted. When it comes down to it though, I highly doubt any of the guests at the wedding are going to complain about my hole punch not being heart shaped.

Did you want to include any little details in your stationery that you couldn’t bring to life? What were they?

Don’t be sad. Look what you could do with that punch.

it’s probably for the best– if you tied a ribbon through the heart, the pointy part would get smushed.

personally, I really love the way you did your tags!

Actually, if you used the upside down heart, the cleft of the heart would remain in tact and be visible with the ribbon obscuring the point of it.

But then it might look a lot like a tiny derriere, and I’m thinking that’s not the look you’re going for…

I don’t get why they don’t make punches the right way, but I still used the heart for our stuff after I realized you could still see the shape plus I really liked it.

Ohhh, boo! At least the circle still looks really nice! And perhaps you can find another way to incorporate your heart hole punch.

Aw, that’s actually too bad it couldn’t punch the other way… so you could use it to punch a heart shaped hole in one of the corners of the tags. That could be cute!

Oh no! Did you make it in and out of Michaels 4 times without buying boatloads of stuff in addition to the hole punch? If so, I am very impressed!

I’m having the same issues - but not with a heart- I’ve bought 4 different scalloped punches. None of them seem to work! I have to literally punch the punch to get it to work (and then it only works half the time). It’s really frustrating b/c when i’ve tried to return them to Michaels they won’t take them because they are opened. Ugh!

Okay, so i’m not going crazy and this has happened to others? Haha…thank goodness. I was pretty bummed because that heart punch from Martha Stewart is AWESOME. Just too big for these little tags…

Feel ya! My current paper mission impossible is making a functional and cute map. The two don’t want to go together for me.
Your wish tags are super cute even without the heart punch!

I think after the third Michael’s trip, I would have called it quits. I give you credit for trying all possible options!! And I still thing the tags look super.
