Accessories Addict

October 13th, 2011 @ 6:46 am by Miss Porcupine

I have a problem I need to own up to. I have a serious addiction to all things accessories. My need for accessories can not be quelled. For one, I thought this would be a good organization solution:

It’s now a tangled mess, and that’s just a touch of the mass heap I own.

You know I’m having a bad day if I haven’t put in the effort to add a necklace or earrings into the mix. Less accessories = stay away. So, it seems only fitting that I should stock up on wedding-day accessories.

To start, I bought this on a whim after a particularly good sale on DSW’s online wedding shop. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it in person. It miiiight be a little too sequin-y grandma-ish (I think my grandma actually pawned something similar off on me), but I strangely like it. It’ll be useful for holding some tissues, a compact, bobby pins, and the like, and it fits in with the peacockness of everything.

Then, a friend found this ring at the awesome seasonal Lee Angel sample sale. They manufacture the jewelry for a lot of stores, such as J.Crew and Ann Taylor. I thought it would go perfectly, and I’ll be sure to slip it on after the ceremony.

As my shoe hunt begins, I’m leaning toward doing a peacock shoe clip on a simple blue flat or low-heeled shoe. I have one bookmarked away on Etsy to purchase soon.

Deciding on a necklace/earrings will be my biggest challenge because I am a serious nutcase. I can’t decide if I should do the traditional pearl studs and pearl necklace, or get a little bit wackier. And by wackier I don’t mean a spike necklace or leather choker. I mean something chunky and trendy along the lines of Mrs. Panther’s awesome Lee Angel necklace. That is a task for another day, though.

I can’t help it. I love accessories. Almost more than clothes, and definitely more than shoes.

Do you have wedding-day accessories picked out yet?

I’m a purse and necklace girl. I am not a shoe person. I already anticipate having a horrible time picking my wedding accessories! You are sooooo lucky to go to the Lee Angel sale!

Love these choices especially the shoe clips! I am doing pearls but more badass, very similar to Panther. I have a humongous pearl statement necklace from J.Crew, I got it a while back and wear it all the time so I guess it is also my something old!

I feel you on the accessories addiction! I had my shoes and earrings picked out before the dress! And I still have 11 months to go, so I’m having to force myself to not buy anything else … or else I’ll end up with 12 pairs of earrings and 10 clutches.

I love accessories too! but, with my dress, I could only have earrings, I chose ones with a pearl and a crystal loop and also crystal and pearls bracelet. I didn’t want to overwhelm the look with accessories since I already had a tiara and wanted to go with a bit of a vintage-y feel. I did have a hard time choosing shoes… I love them! I ended up buying white shoes (since I couldn’t find green ones) and had them covered with green fabric.

I’m a necklace girl - I love funky, chunky necklaces and I know I’ll be going that route on my big day.

Here’s an idea: don’t pick between traditional and funky. Do the traditional for the ceremony and then funky for some portraits and the reception.

You should DEFINITELY check out La Plume Ethere on etsy. She makes some great peacock feather shoes & she can even do custom orders! I have a pair of blue/peacock and red/pheasant.

Porcupiney…I, too, am obsessed with all things accessory (takes one to know one). I saw the photo of your necklaces and thought I’d pass along a tip. I installed an extra towel bar in the bathroom (you could also by an over-the-door one and put it on the inside of your closet), and I hang my necklaces on there. They don’t fall off, and they are easy to see all at once.

Best of luck on the search for your wedding jewelry…I eagerly await to see your finds!

@soyjoy222: I’m the same. I have far too many purses and necklaces!
@Seaside: Great idea for your something old!
@KYbride86: I had my purse before the dress as well. Couldn’t resist.
@jax1982: Great idea! Instead of changing dresses I can change accessories… don’t know why I couldn’t think of this myself. ha
@thefuturemrs.o: Have to check it out! Thanks for the suggestion.
@Crown: Great idea. When we moved into our new place I tried to make what we have work… too bad it didn’t work too well. lol.
@Miss Sunhat: Thanks! I have to tackle the earring hunt as well. I better start moving myself.

Your accessories seem perfect for you! I’m actually a very simple girl, but I stressed over finding the perfect necklace for a long time. Thankfully my mom had exactly what I was looking for and just lent it to me for the day!

I am totally a necklace addict as well! I use a big bulletin board that I hang on the door of my closet. I hang all the necklaces on hot pink tacks so they don’t get tangled and I can see everything when I’m trying to choose =) I have all my earrings sorted by color and type in one of those plastic bead containers with all the little sections. I may or may not have a problem LOL
