About Mrs. Ticket

Remember back when I mentioned painting our cake stand? Well, I did get it back eventually, and here’s the proof!

Sorry for the lame blurring

I still don’t love my handwriting, but I’m really happy with how it turned out, considering it’s just a plate glued to a bowl. This isn’t the only stand we will be having for the wedding. I decided I didn’t want just a boring table of platters for the cookie table—I want dimension. So with that in mind, I scoured the local thrift shops and bought up their cheap candle holders and some plastic plates from Target like Ms. Ferris Wheel and went to work!

We started with a pile of black plastic plates and these.

Not gonna lie, I was a little sad to paint the silver ones. They were pretty. Then they morphed into…

Then we glued the plates onto the painted candlesticks, and they came out looking like this.

We have six total. I’m quite pleased with how they came out considering they were about $2.50 each. We have lots of matching plates and some matching platters to go with them. Our cookie-table numbers are exploding, too (which is awesome), so I’m glad we bought so many plates!

Did you take on any painting projects? Were you pleased with how they turned out?

those look great! is it safe to eat off of something that has been spray painted? (or will there be some kind of paper or something separating the cake from the plate?)

What kind of glue did you use? These turned out great, and so affordable!

Love them! Spray paint was one of my best friends while planning and crafting :)

Wow, they all look awesome! What did you use to glue the plate to the bowl? Are you at all afraid it’s going to be unstable with a big cake on it? It’s such a cool shape and colour!

@Coffeecake & Miss Funnel Cake - The pink cake stand was ‘glued’ when it went through the kiln, they dipped both pieces in the glaze and it sealed them together. I was initially concerned about the cake stand being sturdy enough but the final product seems quite stable and our cake is pretty tiny so I think it will be safe. In the end I’m leaving it up to our bakery to make the decision of whether it will hold up the cake no problems.

For the homemade cake stands I used an epoxy glue which proved to be quite simple, only took about 5 minutes to do all of them then I just left them to set for 24 hours.
