Video Killed the Photo Booth

October 14th, 2011 @ 3:32 pm by Miss Warbler

We’ve been flip-flopping on the wedding lately. Mostly because I haven’t been able to get the idea of a wedding video out of my mind. Everywhere I look, I see awesome wedding videos around the web and, of course, from the bees. Who doesn’t want their wedding day immortalized with a sentimental indie song playing in the background? Mrs. Giraffe’s awesome post about why you need a videographer finally convinced me. Good job, Mrs. G!

After drooling over a zillion wedding videos, Mr. Warbs finally saw that, even though I was trying to hide it, I wanted a video. But first, we had to cut something else out. And that is how we dropped the photo booth from our wedding.

Out of everything we want for the wedding, a photo booth came dead last. That’s not to say we changed our minds—a photo booth would still rock the socks off of our wedding. We just want the video more. After the new year, if the opportunity presents itself, maybe we can squeeze a photo booth in there somewhere. If not, that’s fine too. For now, we are content with how super awesome our video is going to be.

What cuts did you make in the wedding-planning process?

I think you made a good decision - it sounds like you really went by your priorities. I think a photo booth would be really fun if you had it, but not necessarily something you would miss. If you really want videography though, it may be something you miss if you skip it. Can’t wait to see your beautiful video after the wedding!

Good choice, miss warbs! We went sans photo booth too and we don’t miss it at all. But we loooove our video (which I’ll be sharing once I get my photos back - promise!)

Cuts are hard and feel like they’re hair loss inducing! I’m happy you both are coming out of it happy! Videography is kind of one of our cuts. I think we’re going to set up a flip on a tripod and hope for the best! On the up side, we can use it to take videos of things on our Honeymoon and when we get back home!

Cuts are hard, but sometimes you can’t help it.
I’m glad I convinced you - it’ll be worth it, I promise! :)

Whooo!

So far we’ve only cut the dessert bar but I have a feeling more cuts will be coming up! We currently aren’t having any video and as of now, I’m still ok with that. We’ll see if I change my mind! ha ha

We cut out lots of details on the invitations because our venue was rather pricey. Videography would be lovely, but we’re not planning on it.

DIY the photo booth! Seriously! Sooo many bees have done it and they turn out amazing.

PAC did on: http://www.weddingbee.com/2011/03/02/photo-booth-the-test-run/

Starfish had one:http://www.weddingbee.com/2010/07/13/nautical-wedding-inspiration/#more-152110

Lemon had one too: http://www.weddingbee.com/2011/03/02/diy-photo-booth-instructions/

Videographer and favors were my first cuts. Realistically my fiancé and I aren’t ones to watch past videos..at all. We also thought favors would be wasted or left behind. For us a photobooth was a top priority since it would serve as great ‘favors’ for our guests and our friends would love it (70% of our guest list)

I’m d.y.i.n.g. for a videographer, but Foxy just doesn’t see the point :( I’m still working on him, but it’s tough when they are so darn expensive!! In the end, I think you’ll be happy you went with video over photobooth.. but I’ll still hope that you can have both!

@Miss Dalmatian: Thanks, Miss D! I think I would definitely miss the video over a photo booth.
@Miss Raccoon: I recently found my Flip in a drawer. I forgot how fun it was to use that thing! It will definitely come in handy on your honeymoon :)
@Mrs. Giraffe: What can I say, lady you have a way with words :)
@Miss Sunhat: It’s OK to change your mind a thousand times. I know we have!
@MsNarwhal: We kind of feel the same way about favors. I don’t want to waste time on something I know I would throw away. But I don’t want to put too much money into them either. And we were totally going to use the photo booth as a “favor” too!
@Miss Fox: Here’s hoping for both of us!

I’m not at the point where I need to decide on this, but I think I’d prefer to have the photobooth over the videographer. As MsNarwhal mentioned, I really don’t watch videos after they happen. However, I love looking at photos over and over again.

I think that sounds like a perfect compromise. If I’d had to choose between video and a photo booth, I would have made the same choice, too!
