Miss Fox, Washington DC/Havre de Grace, MD Age and Occupation: 26, Massage Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Field Support Engineer Engagement Date: April 18, 2010 Wedding Date: June 2012 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m a dancer turned massage therapist who was born and raised in New York. Alas, true love has brought me “south” where I still maintain my penchants for pretty shoes, wine, crossword puzzles, cherry blossoms, and the Mets. I own more sunglasses than a normal person should and don’t eat red meat (though I make up for it by eating my weight in sushi). I tend to be a big planner who likes to get things started early, but generally end up being indecisive and procrastinating when it comes down to it. I have a (not so) secret crush on Chris Carrabba, but my loyalty and love ultimately goes to the future hubs, of course! Together, my Foxy man and I love to discuss (read: debate) politics and current events, have Mario Kart and Scrabble duels, and just laugh. A lot. We’re hoping and planning for a laid back, fun, summery, rustic vibe to our June wedding that will be genuinely “us” – that is, if we finally make some decisions. Huzzah!

Our Date Needs Some Saving (Again)

October 17th, 2011 @ 7:19 am by Miss Fox

When I decided that I actually needed to get my act together with the whole save the date STD thing (yeaa, we’re just gonna go that route), I totally hated all the old ideas I had. I mean, they were OK, but I just kept seeing so many other fun, cute, unique ideas and my originals just felt…lame. Or generic. But let’s be real…in all actuality, anything we do will likely have been done before.

::letting it go::

I was also feeling very uninspired. I’m sure I mentioned this before, but my creativity got thrown out the window when I threw my high school graduation cap up in the air.

Poof. Gone.

I knew the natural solution would be to have someone else create the STDs, or just use a template. But I really wanted to at least try to be creative. I originally wanted to design the invite suite myself as well, but I quickly learned that that would not be happening and we’d be using a friendor instead. So I at least wanted to take hold of these STD cards.

That being said, I had been browsing the interwebs for inspiration a while back and realized that I very much loved a lot of the pre-made STD designs on Minted.

Some of my favorites:

Our Date Needs Some Saving (Again) : wedding havre de grace save the dates stationery Stdboa STD+boa

Our Date Needs Some Saving (Again) : wedding havre de grace save the dates stationery Stddot STD+dot

Our Date Needs Some Saving (Again) : wedding havre de grace save the dates stationery Stdfou STD+fou

Our Date Needs Some Saving (Again) : wedding havre de grace save the dates stationery Stdhig STD+hig

Our Date Needs Some Saving (Again) : wedding havre de grace save the dates stationery Stdlov STD+lov

Our Date Needs Some Saving (Again) : wedding havre de grace save the dates stationery Stdsee STD+see

Aren’t they all just super cute and super fun? The only not cute thing about them is the price—I wasn’t so much a fan of spending $180 (+ tax, + S&H) for 100 postcards. So I decided to fiddle around on my computer, hoping to make my own version of some of the samples up there…and one of them actually came out pretty decent!! Mr. Foxy also happened to be a fan of my original artwork.. we may very well have finally found an STD to give to everyone! That’s what she said.

It may not be the most unique or fancy or artsy thing anybody has ever seen, but I’m OK with that.

Some foreshadowing: don’t be too surprised if/when I scratch this idea as well. ;)

Did you have a hard time finding an STD or was it an easy-peasy decision for you?

I had a ridiculously hard time with our STD’s…glad they were done and time just eventually made me make the decision. Can’t wait to see yours!

I love you taste in STDs! Teehee (funnyeverytime) I totally hear you have to let go of the “I want to be the only one!” feelings.

I love the minted designs! I actually got my inspiration from theirs to make my own STDs, it think you should do it yourself, take a cute picture of you guys and add some text in photoshop and your date.

I used http://www.mpix.com to print mine I chose to print magnets but you could print them in cardstock if you like, they are really affordable I only paid around $50 for 55 pieces!

If you need help in photoshop private message me and I could give you a hand.

good luck!

I had a really hard time picking out our STD’s too! I finally settled on a folded card that had our picture on the front… I used Vista Print and they were pretty cheap!

Those album-cover-esque ones are amazing (3,4,5)!

As a graphic designer who specializes in save the date cards, I know it’s hard to find a card that both fits what you want and your budget. I love the fun style and colors of the first one, but am drawn to the san-serif type on 2nd and 3rd one.

I’d be happy to work with you if you wanted a mish-mash of all of the above! :D Best of luck!

Those are some inspiring pics, but I agree–$180 for postcards is kind of nuts!

I had my heart set on photo magnets but couldn’t find any (silly me didn’t type “STD magnets” into the interwebs). We just did a photo card and got 50% with Snapfish.
