Mrs. Magic's Picture
Mrs. Magic, Chapel Hill, NC Age and Occupation: 30, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Researcher Engagement Date: December 1, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Barn at Valhalla About Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!
About Mrs. Magic

I Think I Am Going to Vomit

October 18th, 2011 @ 6:17 am by Mrs. Magic

I am getting married next week, y’all. NEXT. WEEK. That is, like, practically tomorrow.

Also, I drank three glasses of wine tonight.

Also, I haven’t been sleeping and I feel kind of nauseous all the time. (No, I am not pregnant.) Yes, the wine helps with that…OK, with the sleeping part at least.

I’m not nauseous about marrying Mr. Magic. I mean, we fight and stuff, sure, but we are good together. He’s like the yin to my yang. Or, like this:

Honey Bee - Blake Shelton - Blake Shelton Videos

I’m nauseous about the damn details. The seating chart. The music. The guests. The frickin’ out-of-town bags.

Our wedding might be a hot mess, with mismatched colors (sheesh, I hope not) and randomness (like tables named after creatures), but we’ll be married. And that’s what matters, right?

How did you cope with the stress? Wine? Yoga?

Wine and yoga, yep. They pretty much carried me through the last few weeks before our wedding.

Yes, for me wine and a workout was just the ticket! Once you get to next week, you’ll be swept away for the ride. Don’t forget to enjoy it!

I feel your pain, literally. I’m getting married next weekend too. I’ve had almost daily headaches from all of the stress I keep internalizing. I took today off from work so I could catch up on stuff around the house and on wedding stuff. I have yet to figure out a coping skill for all of the stress, but wine sounds good to me! and possible cookies ;)

just control the things you CAN control and don’t worry about anything outside your control. also, what gets done, gets done, and what doesn’t, doesn’t…and it will still be an amazing, memorable, wonderful day. give yourself a “cut off” and after that, just absorb everything–spend time with the people who traveled a long way to celebrate with you. no one’s going to care about those teeny details you are stressing over–they want to see you happy! so be sure to relish the real reason for this big day and let the stress melt away. and DELEGATE!

Checklists, and lots of ‘em! I made the most detailed checklists possible so I could check off things every 5 minutes. Made me feel productive, and it was easier than looking at the “big picture” which always made me freak out.

I have one on my website here: http://jennlanedesign.com/checklist.php

Wine=yes. Unfortunately your stress won’t go away, but it will help you deal with it a little better :) And, only one week, yay!

Hugs. Hang it there. Rest and hydration…that is about all I can offer as a nurse, not yet married. If that rest comes in the form or Yoga and the hydration comes in the form of wine…well, so be it!

Miss Magic, don’t sweat! (haha, yeah right, like a bride ever does that!) I remember being freaked out, too (the majority of our DIYing happened in that final week) but I also remember being so at peace. On the actual day, no one will notice all of those little details (which, of course, can be kind of a bummer after all your hard work). You’ll be married ;)

I hope I get a lot of wine at my bridal shower (or tequila) because that’s my secret weapon as well. Woo, 1 week! You’re almost there. Just breath (aka drink).

I cut stuff off my list and delegate. Favors? Not doing them. Out-of-town bags? The fiance will design a lovely schedule and map.

Hang in there, Miss Magic! Your wedding will not be a hot mess–but even if it is, I feel like a wedding that is a hot mess would be the most fun ever and have the most amazing pictures! Haha, chin up, lady! Your wedding will be perfect! (And I totally had the same freak outs prior to my wedding, so this is completely normal.)

YOU CAN DO THIS!

A couple things that worked for me:

Stop all unnecessary projects (OOT bags) and just focus on getting your schedule and the ceremony and reception programs organized.
Details are fun but how the day runs is going to make the most impact on your guests’ experience and how you feel throughout the events.

Take something to sleep at night.
I’ve never taken anti-anxiety meds but I knew I needed a little help about two weeks out. I called my doc and told her I needed something to help with episodic anxiety attacks, and sleep, and travel during my honeymoon (not a good flyer). She gave me something mild and short term right away, no questions, that I took only at night (and later when flying). I fell right to sleep and felt refreshed the next day–so important. Otherwise my mind would have been running at high speed all night long as it was forced to do for sooo many weeks during planning. Also, getting a mild prescription stopped me from using benadryl or tylenol pm which I think may have worse half-lives… never be afraid to talk your docs, ladies!

It is all going to be wonderful!!!! So excited for you, Magic!

Ahhhh, so soon!! Just be sure to do the yoga before drinking the wine, if your sense of balance is at all like mine.
