Wedding-ed Out

October 20th, 2011 @ 5:18 am by Miss Aardvark

If you are any thing like me, (and I am guessing you at least something like me because you are reading and enjoying this wedding blog) you can look at wedding stuff for HOURS, consuming endless hours of websites, magazines, blogs and pictures. I love to soak in all the frilly, glittery, lacy, shiny goodness like a bridal sponge.

I like to obsess over dresses (even though I have chosen mine and could not be happier). There is just so much diversity! Maybe I should just start wearing wedding dresses exclusively. I am pretty sure (finances aside) I could wear a different one every day for a year, and love them all.

I like to obsess over shoes (clearly, I have 3 pairs for myself and am still looking for the bridesmaids). I have written multiple shoe posts about my own wedding footwear and sent way too many emails to my bridesmaids with links to shoe ideas for them! This is a little snapshot of what the inside of my brain looks like a lot of the time:

I even like to look at flowers, even though I really don’t care if or what kind we have at our wedding! They are just so pretty!

Sigh… just lovely….

However, I have found, about 104 pages into to a Google image search for “Weddings” or 57 clicks through any of my many favorite blogs, something snaps. A little switch in my brain goes from “I-NEED-WEDDING-IDEAS-ALL-WEDDING-IDEAS” to ehhhh…it all looks the same.” At this point I have found the only cure is to

A) Switch from flowers to jewelry or from veils to shoes

or

B) Get up and do something totally un-wedding related. (Whhhat? Madness, I know.)

I have found A only works for a short term fix and my attention span shrinks with each new category. B is really the best bet and after a break I feel like a bit more of a person and not a wedding-bot.

Have you ever been wedding-ed out? How do you cope?

About 7 months into planning, I totally got fed up with my obsessive wedding magazine buying and google-ing, so I totally feel you. I actually think you have a great idea to B) get out a do something totally un-wedding related. Maybe some sort of exercise? Exercising was the best way for me to unwind and destress…like a walk in a park (cliche I know…)

Haha, I thought it was just me!

I’ve definitely had the same thing happen - I love looking, but then my brain experiences overload and I have to go do something else productive (um work?)

Ssoblit, great call - exercise has been the best way to stop thinking about wedding stuff - and has the added benefit of making you look great great for your wedding day!

I know how that feels and I haven’t been planning my wedding for very long. There’s just so much to look at and stress about too. Its always good to get away from it for a few minutes.

Oh I definitely feel your pain! I have 2 years until the actual day and I find myself wedding-ed out all the time! I have almost everything planned out in a notebook (yes major planner here) and ready to go. However I am constantly looking at websites and magazines, etc saving pictures to my desktop oh man am I on overload! Usually to cope I go and bake something! Cookies, cupcakes, anything to get my mind onto another task and away from wedding mania!

I can totally relate to this! It’s good to know your limits with wedding stuff, but I never found it :)

I think this wedding has given me ADHD, simply because of the constant influx of ideas and details to attend to!

hahaha I’m weddinged-out right now and my wedding is next week. Very inconvenient time to be weddinged-out. You do get past it though, apparently there can be too much of a good thing?

I found it relieving to make a choice about something, and it was especially helpful to make a choice about something DIY and then collect the materials and get started. That way you’re giving your mind a break from all the browsing and using your time productively (even if its just to find out that you don’t want to do that after all) and still being involved with wedding stuff.

I can relate. There is just SO much inspiration out there! I do impress myself (and Mr. D) with how long it takes me to get wedding-ed out, but it has occasionally happened. A break definitely helps, although it is usually not long before I am back online searching for groomsmen ties!

I was totally in the walk away and do something else camp. There were just some days when I was so wedding-ed out, I had to get away!
