Way back when, I mentioned I was going for a white dress and red sash combination for my bridesmaids—a very Swiss inspired choice.
…Did I ever get around to figuring out some sashes for them? Well yes, I did. But you know that means I searched all over the internet first!

There were looots of sash options to choose from.
SIL Funnel Cake liked the wide obi-reminiscent style of this luxurious sash, but we worried that it might be too long for knee-length dresses.

There were also many a cute sashes to be found on Etsy, like the simple flower sash below.

…Etsy turned me on to the idea of flower sashes in general. I mean, they are just so feminine!

SIL Funnel Cake also found another source of sashes at Aria when she was searching for her dress.

And what about David’s Bridal? They usually have some great deals on wedding items. These sashes are only $15!

…but I was getting more and more turned on by sashes that were a tad more than simple.

Look how pretty this accent pin is on an otherwise simple ribbon sash?

I was all set to just buy any one of these adorable affordable sashes, when I stumbled upon a blog entry from Modern Foodie about sewing your own fabric sash. Hmm. As I investigated the tutorial April followed on Modern Foodie, I thought “This looks easy.”
Uh oh. Uh oh.
You guys, after this I made a really bad decision. I went to a fabric store in Zürich to buy some test fabric to play with. That shit is expensive. Really expensive. Fabric is around $50-100 a yard in Switzerland. Or more. Whatever… just tack some more zeros to the end of your bill!
I handed the cashier what was then around the equivalent of $125 for one yard of fabric, one yard of four different ribbons and some lacy trim, for the hell of it. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into, but I love fabric and sewing crafts… and I just couldn’t resist the urge to try my skills at making a sash!
Did you have any DIY projects you accidentally got yourself into? Did you stick with them or change your mind and delegate?
