Where to Wed?

October 21st, 2011 @ 7:01 am by Mrs. Raccoon

Neither of us had our heart set on a location. In a way this was good, but it created what seemed like endless options to explore!

Mr. Raccoon is living in Nashville and has been attending St. Anne’s.

We went to school together in Evansville, and the campus chapel is always available for weddings.

We grew up around Indianapolis, which has a ton of beautiful buildings.

Large numbers of our relatives live up north. I went to school at St. Mary’s Notre Dame and lived in this beauty, Le Mans Hall, right across from the chapel and fell in love with it.

So where is this wedding actually going to happen? Not at any of the locations listed above!

Getting married in a Catholic church is very important to Mr. Raccoon and his family. We decided on Saint Susanna’s, the church Mr. Raccoon grew up in. When we go to mass, we end up sitting in front of a nice lady that taught Mr. Raccoon how to use scissors, or we walk away with an equally sweet story. The familiarity has definitely come in handy. Not just the church, but growing up around the area, we’re more familiar with reception locations and possible vendors. South Bend didn’t have much going for it besides nostalgia. I wouldn’t have a bed to sleep in or any clue about where to start for any of the other locations.

So many options! How did everyone else choose?

Anyone else getting married in their hometown?

It sounds like you made the perfect choice! I’m not getting married in my hometown growing up (outside Chicago) but I am getting married in my current hometown (Nashville), and very much looking forward to sleeping in my own bed right around the wedding - although I think we will splurge for a hotel the night of :)

@mollyml05: @MissTM: Why hello there Belles! You probably saw me traipsing around the campuses at least one year! I transferred and still find myself wishing I hadn’t at times. Happy to meet you!

That seems like such a wonderful and meaningful place to get married! We chose a beautiful vineyard for our ceremony, but the reception was held at my parents’ house, and I loved the familiarity of coming home for our wedding reception! It was perfect!
