The Touch…the Feel…of Cotton

October 21st, 2011 @ 6:23 am by Miss Dalmatian

I have heard of cotton balls. I have heard of cotton dresses. I have heard of cotton candy. I have heard of Mrs. Cotton Candy. But cotton bouquets? This was something that took me by surprise!

What a pleasant surprise it was! I was instantly enamored with how soft and natural they look, and I love how they are so unique yet still carry the shape of a classic bouquet. Don’t you just want to rub it against your cheek? Nope, just me?

Here are a couple more cheek-rubbing-worthy bouquets:

STUNNING, are they not? In my search for these whimsical masterpieces, I quickly learned that the men do not need to be left out! Turns out cotton makes some pretty sweet boutonnieres as well.

Not into cotton-ing up the wedding party? I also came across some pretty striking décor that incorporated this fluffy plant. Check it out:

Now that I have indulged myself with a little eye (cotton) candy, let’s get down to business. As much as I clearly love cotton as part of the floral design, I ran into a few barriers when trying to use it on our day. First, our color scheme is bright and happy. Flowers seem like an excellent way to bring in vivid and cheerful colors, which unfortunately doesn’t include the soft white of cotton. Second, our wedding is in the spring. I have no idea if cotton has a season, but to me it just screams woodsy fall wedding, or possibly winter wonderland.

While I don’t know that we will be able to incorporate these cotton wonders, I will maintain a love for their soft prettiness. Somebody please use cotton florals and share pictures so I can live vicariously through you!

Has anyone used cotton in their wedding?

I loved all of the cotton inspiration while I was planning, and I still do! Wish this would have fit in a bit more with our wedding, but I enjoy sighing over other peoples’ pretty pictures.

I wanted to have cotton so badly, but it also just didn’t work with the feel of our wedding. I’ll live vicariously with you!

my fiance hates cotton !!!! so although i love this idea he would never go for it…. It is funny because it is the only thing he truly cannot stand

This is such a cool idea! I’ve never seen it used in a wedding, it’s probably good because I would have wanted to even though it wouldn’t have gone with our vibe.

I was set on using cotton at one point…even found the cotton man who distributes wholesale cotton. It’s SO pretty and natural!!

I love the idea of it, and you might be able to find a use for it in some decor - I’m thinking as a filler instead of baby’s breath?

@miss mechanical: please steal it! and please post pictures for me to ooh and ahh over :)
@dinajean: Isn’t it funny the random things that some men can’t stand? Mr. D hates polka dots. He is okay with little subtle ones, but big bold fun ones he can’t stand.

I adore this. I feel a vague memory of wanting to incorporate cotton and quickly forgetting about it! I really hope you use these pretty puffs in your wedding =)

I thought long and hard about cotton too! It is so beautiful. Still sad I didn’t get to use it :(
