Miss Doe's Picture
Miss Doe, Northern California Age and Occupation: 24, Real Estate Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Recycling Manager Engagement Date: December 25, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2012 Venue: Monte Verde Inn About Me: I’m a Rat Pack fan and a Christmas nut that loves to read, good wine, cheesy ’80s movies and ’90s sitcoms. My wiener dog with an attitude problem and lazy basset hound are my constant source of entertainment. He's a hunter and I like cooking so it's not rare to see wild game on our dinner menu. Both of us were born and raised in a small historic farming town where our feet are still firmly planted. We have been together for nearly a decade and have shared many life experiences together, including birthdays that are only one day apart. We are two old souls that are creating our long-awaited wedding with loads of tradition that blends our two styles into rustic elegance in the foothills of Northern California.
About Miss Doe

How Rude!

October 22nd, 2011 @ 10:19 am by Miss Doe

I thought I would update you all on that appointment we had to meet with a potential videographer. The one that I was super excited about because he did not require my firstborn child and/or my life savings in order to book him?

Yeah, total fail. That meeting did not go as I had hoped. First, he emailed me about an hour before our appointment to ask if we could push back the appointment by 30 minutes. OK, no big deal. Thank goodness I checked my email before leaving. I consider this to be sign numero uno.

Things started off fairly well while he was explaining the different pricing options. Again, he was the most affordable videographer that I could fine. Things took a slight turn when he continued to call Mr. Buck by the wrong name of James. Not just once, but approximately five times. After every time he would correct himself, so he did know his correct name. OK, the first time is an honest mistake. Second time, he is still trying to figure this out. Third, fourth, fifth time? I’m starting to think Mr. Buck’s real name is James…ridiculous.

He showed us two videos, and they seemed nice. Nothing special, but again he is affordable and I kept telling myself this. To top it all off at the very end he said, “I don’t really choose to do weddings anymore because they take up my weekends. I only do them when people find me.” Wow, thanks. Because we aren’t going to be paying you a crap load of money or anything. (Yes he is affordable, but it still costs money.) I was not really interested in paying someone for a service who does not actually want to be there. As Stephanie Tanner would say:

This was all very frustrating to say the least. I felt like I was back to square one and considering once again to not have a videographer. That is until I got home and found a message from my photographer. He knew I was going to meet with a videographer, and he had a referral for me if this one did not work out. Apparently one of his best friends does video and they work really well together. I got his contact information and emailed him right away. I am hoping to meet with him soon, and hopefully this one will work out a little better.

At the very least, maybe he will remember Mr. Buck’s name. That would be a start.

Wow - totally unprofessional of that first videographer. Glad you decided to not go with him.
The second option sounds promising - here’s hoping!

Wow - so many signs! I wouldn’t want to be such a nuisance to that videographer as to give him my business. Hope your next meeting goes better!

That sounds like a potential wedding crisis averted. You definitely want someone who wants to be there and make the best work possible for yall!

At least you dodged that bullet.

What the deuce?
If it makes you feel better, I couldn’t afford any professionals. My uncle and a friend from the church will be recording with a regular old camcorder. At least we’ll have two videos to pick from to edit. A good friend of mine is doing photography really cheap for us, and bringing an assistant as well. Anyway, I’m sorry this guy didn’t work out for you. Hopefully the next one will, and will be at a price you can afford.

I’m really hoping to find a videographer. It was one of the things I had dismissed at the beginning stages of planning but the more I think about it, the more I want a way to look back on the day. Good luck in finding yours!

Ugh, that IS rude. If they can’t even get the names right, that’s a bad sign.

That same thing totally happened to me with a venue that I drove 2 hours to look at. Could have told me on the phone that you don’t like to do weddings. Thanks.

Wow, I hope your next meeting goes much better! I contacted a seamstress for alterations on my gown and she said she’d do it, but she didn’t really like to do wedding dresses anymore. She obviously didn’t want my business, and neither did this video dude.

Man, this guy does sound really unprofessional! I’m so glad you learned that before you sent him a deposit! And I’m crossing my fingers for good news with the new videographer! Having a recommendation from a photographer is always a plus. :)

Is it weird that when I saw the title of your post I said it in a Stephanie Tanner voice without even seeing the picture? Oh how I miss that show…
Sad face about the videographer not working out, but your photographer sounds great if they’re willing to take the time to message you, remembering that you’re looking for a videographer and having a recommendation. I’m hoping I’m so lucky to find vendors that care rather than consider me a nuisance.

It’s so sad that I heard Stephanie Tanner’s voice in my head throughout your entire post. ;)

Such a bummer about the videographer.. I had such high hopes for you!! If your photog’s friend works out, it may be for the best since they already know they work well together!

Last month I met with a photographer who said “I’m not very good with computers” what’s wrong with these people?!

Wow, this was not the experience I was hoping you would have! Very glad your photographer offered up an alternative! Fingers are crossed that not only is the suggested videographer far more professional but that personalities mesh & they are within your budget!!!

Oh hey, LOVE YOU for quoting Stephanie Tanner. So glad Full House is getting the recognition it deserves :)

I hope the second videographer works out better, I have to agree that the first one sounds a little less than professional!

Who tells a future-bride that they don’t like weddings? Cross him RIGHT off the list!

Yikes! Good thing you got to find out BEFORE the wedding he was bad news! Love the Full House reference, Joey was my favorite :)

We found a lot of low end videographers had issues we wanted to avoid (get what you pay for I guess). We were going to give up on video until we found a company called Storymix (there are other similar ones too). They ship cameras for your friends and family to shoot the video and then they edit it into a great video.

Don’t want to write a novel here so message me if you want more details. For $300 it worked out great for us. Good luck, hopefully the photographer referral works out!
