Mrs. Magic's Picture
Mrs. Magic, Chapel Hill, NC Age and Occupation: 30, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Researcher Engagement Date: December 1, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Barn at Valhalla About Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!

Are Wedding Gifts Necessary?

October 23rd, 2011 @ 3:00 pm by Mrs. Magic

I’m not talking about gifts from guests…obviously those are necessary (just kidding!…not really…). I’m talking about the bride and groom giving gifts to each other. I mean, of course it’s not necessary…but it’s fun!

I’m not sure Mr. Magic is getting me a gift or not. If he does, I hope he gets me something like this, but maybe a tad smaller. And less expensive. And, you know… fake.

Size 5, honey. OK, now get out.

I’m getting Mr. M THREE gifts, because I am a super awesome soon to be wifey. And because most of the gifts I can enjoy, too—aren’t those the best kind of presents?

Present #1 is actually the groom’s cake. We will be chowing down on it at the Rehearsal Dinner, and it will look something like this:

Pepperoni Pizza Cake by Pates Cake Shop via Cake Central

He knows we are having a groom’s cake but doesn’t know the design. Mr. Magic loves pepperoni pizza more than anything, except maybe cats and sports. Maybe I rank above pizza…not sure.

Gift #2: Erm, it’s similar to Gift #1 (he really likes pizza, no lie) but it’s a total surprise! As a late night snack at the reception, we are having mini pepperoni pizzas passed around. YUM. So drink up, guests, there will be greasy pizza to fuel you for the after party.

Gift #3: OK, this is an actual gift that can be wrapped and opened. I commissioned a picture of us and our cats by artist Lucy Kagan at her Etsy shop Santa Luchia. Here is the finished artwork!

I think the picture is really great (and that I look really young, which I kinda like).

Are you and your significant other exchanging gifts and if so, what are they?

What amazing gifts! I bet pizza will taste SO good (both as a cake and as a late night snack). That picture is also so cute. I love the colors, and the kitties of course. He is a lucky Mr :)

What awesome, thoughtful gifts!! Our wedding is 6 months away (as of today!), and I am not 100% sure what I am getting him, but for now I plan on getting him a new wallet with his initials or something on it.

Cute picture! And I had a good giggle at you calling her Princess Kate! I *wish* she was called that - it would make so much more sense.

Aww, those are all great gifts! I am sure he will love them all.

I got my FI (now husband!) cufflinks (~$40) with his family crest (though I forgot that he changed shirts and was not actually wearing one that required cufflinks…minor detail! One of my girlfriends helped him the morning of our wedding and sewed or pinned them on so he could wear them anyway). I also got him a new bottle of cologne that I picked out for him, a hankerchief with an embroidered message, and a booklet of cheesy love coupons. He got me a white gold and diamond bracelet that reminded him of the design in my wedding band (it does look similar). I love it, especially because he picked it himself (usually he insists on my input). He was so happy during our first look when he saw that I was wearing it.

I’m really happy that we decided to exchange gifts even though it added to our to do lists beforehand!

Those are all great gifts.

We didn’t exchange gifts. We decided early on not to do this. But our whole trip was a gift to ourselves and we did go on a fishing charter two days after our wedding, so that was kind of like a gift from ourselves.

I love the picture! And omg those pizzas will definitely be a hit! I want to get FI a nice watch, I’d give it to him (or have someone take it to him) the day of, that way he an wear it during the wedding! :)

I love the artwork! Mr. Mole and I were just talking about whether or not we would exchange gifts this morning. He had no idea that it was even a thing to do, so there’s that!

Fabulous grooms cake and awesome drawing! I don’t know if my sweetie is getting me a wedding gift but I got him cufflinks. We are both from NY and have recently moved to NJ so I got him a set of cufflinks made from MTA tokens and a set made from GSP tokens :D

@SteidaBega: I was trying to get Mr. M a new wallet but he is really picky about his wallets, and I couldn’t find the perfect one!

@VickyAurea: I know, Princess Kate is way better. She will always be Kate to me!

@78h2o: Aw, those sound like really sweet, thoughtful gifts!
