Miss Fox's Picture
Miss Fox, Washington DC/Havre de Grace, MD Age and Occupation: 26, Massage Therapist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Field Support Engineer Engagement Date: April 18, 2010 Wedding Date: June 2012 Venue: Vandiver Inn About Me: I’m a dancer turned massage therapist who was born and raised in New York. Alas, true love has brought me “south” where I still maintain my penchants for pretty shoes, wine, crossword puzzles, cherry blossoms, and the Mets. I own more sunglasses than a normal person should and don’t eat red meat (though I make up for it by eating my weight in sushi). I tend to be a big planner who likes to get things started early, but generally end up being indecisive and procrastinating when it comes down to it. I have a (not so) secret crush on Chris Carrabba, but my loyalty and love ultimately goes to the future hubs, of course! Together, my Foxy man and I love to discuss (read: debate) politics and current events, have Mario Kart and Scrabble duels, and just laugh. A lot. We’re hoping and planning for a laid back, fun, summery, rustic vibe to our June wedding that will be genuinely “us” – that is, if we finally make some decisions. Huzzah!
About Miss Fox

Ur Doin’ It Rong.

October 23rd, 2011 @ 9:35 am by Miss Fox

Here’s the situation.

We have a venue, but no officiant.

We have invites, but no save the dates. Truth.

And? We have a rehearsal-dinner concept picked, but not the actual meal for our reception.

Backward? Maybe. But hey, that’s how we roll.

So…about that rehearsal dinner. We want to do a Maryland-style crab feast!

Since living in the good ol’ MD, Foxy and I have made eating crabs somewhat of a regular thing. I’m not just talking crab cakes or king crab legs. I’m talking full blown bash-the-heck-out-of-the-crab-so-you-can-find-the-meat-and-eat-it crabs. I still have no idea how to do it right, but it’s SO much fun.

Well, imagine our surprise (and luck!) when we learned that our venue was having a traditional Maryland crab dinner for one of their recent Monday Night Supper Clubs. Our initial question of whether or not they would be able to do such a thing vanished. They nailed it and then some.

No plates necessary!

And…gone. Delish.

They way they set it up, each table got a big basket of crabs but could also go up to the buffet line for some potato salad, grilled corn, peel-and-eat shrimp, and/or fried chicken; thus, an option for everyone. While Foxy and I would love to watch and giggle at our guests trying to open up their crabs in order to eat (come on, it’d be a smidge amusing)…I suppose it’d be better if there were other options. ;) We’re hoping to do something similar to the mini-buffet Vandiver did for the supper club, and we could even throw some crab cakes into the mix if people want crab but don’t want to work for it. (Those lazy bums!)

We haven’t set this in stone yet, as we still want to check out some local restaurants to see their take on the crab feast. But this is definitely a viable option!

Has anyone else had their rehearsal dinner at their wedding venue? Why or why not?

I think it’s a great idea to have your rehearsal dinner at your venue, because then people only have to figure out how to find one place!

Also, I know a great officiant…;)

This post is making me drool, crabs are my favorite food! I really wanted to do this for our rehearsal dinner but was actually worried about getting my nails and hands (I usually get cut at least once by a claw or something) all a mess!

This does look so fun, and I don’t even like seafood! I could see why someone wouldn’t want to have it at the same venue so that it would be more of a surprise on the wedding day, but I think that it could totally work, especially if the events have different feels. I mean, in reality, the wedding is going to be so special that no one is going to care if they have seen the building before. Sounds amazing! Go for it!

We picked our venue (and no officiant), our STDs before the invites, and know where we’re doing our rehearsal dinner (have yet to book our caterer). Backwards twins!!! We’re doing the rehearsal dinner at our fave restaurant here in town.

I think it’s a great idea! I feel the rehearsal dinner should be fun and laid back! We already have our’s set out too, just waiting on the local restaurant in Stafford to finish their renovations! I can’t wait to be able to use it. We have the day set for months now w/them since we eat there once a week. The owners are even invited to the wedding!

We really wanted to do a crab/seafood feast for our rehearsal dinner but it ended up being too expensive. I guess I will just have to live through you! Looks so yummy!
