Dressing the Mamas

October 23rd, 2011 @ 12:15 pm by Mrs. Raccoon

I didn’t have too many opinions or guidelines about how the mothers should dress. Anything I had to say kind of went without saying. They were things like “please don’t wear all white or fire-truck-flashy red,” “please nothing that is a centimeter from a wardrobe malfunction” (think Nicole at any formal event—if you don’t know Nicole, you know THAT girl), and pretty helps.

I stumbled across a mother-of-the-bride attire etiquette article on The Knot. All I could think about was how impractical this would be for us. My mother can’t commit to an outfit for anything. I can show you the latest selection, but chances are you won’t see it at the wedding. If Mr. Raccoon’s mom had to wait until my mother chooses (probably two hours before the ceremony), she wouldn’t make it to the church on time.

I’m sure everything will work out fine.

Mr. Raccoon’s mother picked out a beautiful dress!

My mother is currently thinking of a simple black dress with a sparkly patterned jacket.

I’ll try to keep everyone updated.

What are your moms wearing?

I’m sure they will be lovely! What the mamas would wear is definitely one of those things that I never even realized brides cared about until I was engaged. I think you have a great attitude, as long as it is not going to cause some sort of scene, and as long as they are happy and feel beautiful, then you are good to go!

This is definitely something I have been “putting off” and not because of my mother (she has excellent taste & is more concerned about the dress than I am, lol.) , but because of FMIL…she is ‘older’ and *very* frugal. I am not close to her at all & neither is my family. In the 4 years that FI and I have been together our families have only met once, and that was 2 years ago! Our families are just very different. The last wedding we went to was FMIL’s neice (her sister’s daughter) and FMIL wore black pants, a gold-ish top, a Wig (no, she is not losing her hair, she just didn’t ‘feel’ like doing it..the wig was gray, her hair is brown) Oh! and she also wore brown sandals (you know, the kind with velcro that most older men wear with socks)… wow it will definitely be a surprise for all on our wedding day..

..Your FMIL’s dress is very nice & I do not blame your mother…the last wedding I went to I brought 4 new dresses to the hotel we were staying at & even had to go to 3 stores to find a pair of shoes..2 hours before the wedding! Lol!

Funny that you posted that purple dress from Jcpenney cuz that’s exactly what my Mom wore for our at home reception and she looked terrific in it. My DH and I just exchanged love letters the day of our wedding and it was very sweet. Now we have a wonderful keepsake to read for many years to come.

My mom is wearing a pine green silk chiffon dress. it’s a strapless dress that she is opting to wear a bolero with. I didn’t think I liked green until i saw it with her eyes. Her size should be coming in next month and I am so excited for her. My mom spends all her money on clothes for the kids (she has 7 daughters) and I cannot wait for her to be able to dress up in a fancy dress on my wedding day. She never gets dolled up and I am SO excited for her to feel beautiful!

That purple dress is amazing! And your mom’s choice sounds beautiful as well.

My mom wore something similar to the first picture to my sister’s wedding. She looked lovely!
