Confessions of a Homebody

October 24th, 2011 @ 3:15 pm by Miss Dalmatian

Hi, my name is Miss Dalmatian and I am a total homebody. Come Saturday night you will not find me out on the town. You will find me snuggled on the couch with the mister and the pup, eating a hot-and-ready pizza from Little Caesars and watching Hulu. Don’t get me wrong—I do occasionally go out, and I have a lot of fun when I do.

Yes, that is me. Yes, I am waving a penis straw. Yes, I did that the entire night. Yes, it is embarrassing. Yes, it was ridiculously fun.

However, the slightly extremely tipsy, dancing-on-the-bar, penis-straw-waving girl is definitely the exception as opposed to the rule. The rule tends to involve less beads and more sweatpants.

Ninety-nine percent of the time I am totally OK with being a homebody. I don’t stay at home because I have nowhere to go or no one to go with me. I stay at home because snuggling, stuffing my face with pizza, and laughing at Parks and Recreation makes me happy.

You must also understand that this homebody thing is not a new development. I am not the case of the college party girl who settled down with her fiancé after graduation. That’s right—we were this lame even when we were college students. Here’s the story: Mr. Dalmatian and I met the very beginning of our freshman year. During the first year we weren’t officially dating yet, and I was able to balance the party girl with the homebody a little bit better. I would go to frat parties with my friends, but I was usually one of the first to leave so I could go to Mr. D’s room and watch a movie before falling asleep. But as time went by and we got more serious, things began to shift. I was still close with my friends (they are amazing girls), but my relationship with Mr. D grew to be a larger part of my life, and along with this came a routine of movie nights and dorm-room conversations instead of beer pong and keg stands.

Like I said, 99% of the time I know this is exactly what I want. But there is 1% of the time that I feel like I am missing out. While I love that Mr. Dalmatian loves me even in my sweatpants, I sometimes miss curling my hair with the girls and having a reason to wear heels that is not business related.

I would never in a million years trade my homebody life to be crazier, but I know that I need to put effort into restoring a little bit of balance. While I never feel like it at the time, I need to make myself go out and appreciate the amazing honky tonks that Nashville has to offer…and maybe even occasionally drag Mr. Dalmatian with me!

That being said, I think tonight is a movie night…

Would we find you out on the town or in on the couch?

Most def at home with a big blankie, once or twice a month we’ll go to the neighboring city Philly. All this cozy talk has me craving homemade lasagna!

I am definitely a homebody, and always have been. MUCH prefer sweatpants, the couch, and junkfood to bars and parties!!

Oh yeah, definitely a homebody here. That being said, I have found that during times where I stay at home too often I do start to crave getting out and going somewhere. This has been difficult in tough financial times, but we’ve learned how to balance the homebody tendency with the need to get out sometimes, all without spending a ton of money.

I definitely gave up my party girl ways for Mr. P after college. We still love to go out, but definitely need a better balance sometimes. Especially since we live in NYC, and honestly don’t take full advantage of all it has to offer sometimes. Sometimes the couch and a bottle of wine just sounds so nice though….

I love my nights in, but only cause I have no energy for nights out. I definitely have fun when I do go out, but even when I party with my group of friends and there’s a climbing day planned for the following morning, we’re all calling it a night well before midnight. Priorities!

I am exactly like you. I love to be home doing nothing, but I kinda feel like I am missing out on something. I know I would rather be home anyway though. Especially since I was a complete homebody in college too, with the fiance. (We also met freshman year of college.) Weird…

It sounds like we are cut from the exact same cloth, Miss D! I am so a homebody, and while I do enjoy going out once someone can finally get me out, most nights I can be found relaxing on my couch in my pjs. If we lived near each other, I’d suggest we watch Parks & Rec together. In our pjs. Eating Chinese food. And drinking wine. :)

In all seriousness, thank you for posting that Parks & Rec clip! It is one of my favorite moments!

I’m definitely a homebody. Luckily, Mr. P is too (one of the perks of marrying an older man…kidding…kind of).

Glad to know I am not alone! It sounds like we would all do well at a giant slumber party with some good sitcoms and bottles and wine.

@Mrs. Eggs Benedict: I agree that being a homebody is much easier on the wallet, definitely a plus!

@Mrs. Parasol: I’m so glad you appreciated the P&R clip. That show kills me every time!

@MissCT: Crazy! Glad to know I am in good company :)

I can relate so much to this! I’m a MAJOR homebody and I looooove it :) but sometimes I do think I should put more effort towards changing things up and going out. But I too will never fully change my home body ways :)

Definitely a homebody here! Though I’m still looking for the other body to stay home with me, so maybe I should get out more! ;)

I’m a couch potato. Well, both the Mr. and I really like staying home, watching a movie, or playing video games. Mostly because we really can’t afford to go out. We do spend time with friends, but it’s not as often as it used to be.

When hubs and I first started dating, we went out almost every night! We much prefer to stay in most of the time now. Not only is it expensive, but we can’t stand the clubs and bar scene anymore. We’d much rather have friends over and hang out at home with some beer and good food

I’m def a sweatpants and blanket on the couch type of girl. My FI on the other hand loves to go out. We come to a great balance most of the time- All of our friends just come to our place and hang out. I still get to wear my comfy clothes & he still gets his “out” time =)

We don’t go out that often, for multiple reasons. But we have a lot of friends in our neighborhood so we all hang out together at someones house. We take turns who’s house we’re at. But sometimes, we do just stay in just the two of us and watch movies or tv and snuggle on the couch.

I’m a total homebody! We both are, Mr. Ladyfingers regularly “checks in” with me to make sure I’m not bored with our life. Our big plans after the wedding (since we’ll have more time to spend together) include trying out the Saturday morning Farmer’s Market by our house and hitting the outlet mall for Christmas shopping. That, and dinner and a movie, constitutes our crazy times — and with friends? Thrift store shopping or coffee. Woo!!

We are really good at mixing it up…we spend most weeknights watching Hulu on the couch, but come the weekend we really enjoy socializing with our group of friends. I think we are both so tired every night of the week that when Fri & Sat are upon us we are itching to get out of the house!
