About Miss Porcupine

Shoebalism

October 24th, 2011 @ 7:31 am by Miss Porcupine

When I first thought of wedding shoes, I thought “mmm, k.”

I am not a shoe girl. I have never paid more than maybe 75 bucks for a pair of dressy shoes. I think the most expensive pair of shoes I own are my UGGs. Does that count? And, yes, I don’t care how “uggly” they are, I love me some UGGs.

Early on in planning I decided I wanted my something blue to be my shoes. Plus, factoring in our peacock/blue color scheme I thought it made a lot of sense.

Apparently I am unconsciously trying to BE Carrie Bradshaw on my wedding day (minus the part where my groom loses his ish and ditches me, only to propose later with some Manolos), because not only did she have the blue shoes, but she also had that peacock thing going on.

Oh boo, I swear I did not do this intentionally. I am much more of a Charlotte. Oh, well. There are worse comparisons in life.

My one hurdle in this blue shoe shopping game has been that I can’t decide if I want to commit to blue flats. Mr. Porcupine is only about four inches taller than me, and I don’t want to tower over him in pictures. I can’t seem to find too many low heel/wedge options that are blue. And, besides for all that height garbage, I really love the idea of blue flats. Lord knows I will be kicking off any sort of heels I wear once the dancing gets underway.

So far there are a few shoes in the running that I keep putting off buying. I keep waiting for a shoe to pop up out of nowhere that beats all of these. But, with my first fitting slowly creeping up, I think it’s time I just pick some shoes and be done with it.

Stop TORTURING me Kate Spade via Zappos

If I could rationalize spending a lot of money I would have Kate Spades sent directly to my door. But, I don’t think I can really find a good reason to ever spend that much money on something people will barely see on my wedding day.

To flat or not to flat? Anyone have a favorite from these (minus those Kate Spades I can NOT afford)? Any online shoe shop suggestions (minus Zappos, Endless, and DSW, which I’ve covered)?

In terms of flats, I think they change the way your dress looks, so that might be something to keep in consideration. I am about 5′4 and look much more long and lean when wearing heels as opposed to flats, so depending on your dress silhouette, this might totally change things. mine was form fitted so when I put on the flats for photos, i looked like i gained about 10 lbs. just food for thought…(this is true in everday life dressing as well, and prob won’t be an issue if you’re wearing a ballgown, but it’s something i didn’t think about…)

I am definitely wearing flats - our ceremony will be outdoors, I’ll be walking down a lovely grassy aisle, and I just don’t feel like trying to make heels work, either logisticly or comfort-wise. So I am on the hunt for awesome blue flats as well. These are my current favorite: http://www.6pm.com/pour-la-victoire-bridal-and-evening-jill-royal-blue-satin - cute and very reasonably priced!

I’m going for a flat with a 1 inch wedge on it to give me a little boost but still be comfortable and maintain the FI and I’s natural height difference. I got a pair of the dyeables in royal blue and I love them! You should check out the dyeables, they’re really affordable!

for what it’s worth, I had me too mini-wedges and didn’t have to kick those suckers off until the final 30 minutes of the reception… they were comfortable until then!

I know this probably isn’t trendy, but stores like Payless have a whole section of dyable satin shoes, have you thought about checking there? I mean for about 40.00 you can get whatever style you want and have them dyed any color.

Hi Ms. Porcupine :) I saw that you had a pair of nina’s in there, my wedding shoes are nina too and I actually got them right from their site http://ninashoes.com/ you can actually have a pair custom made on there for not too much if you want, but there are tons of already made options too.

I wore the Me Toos from Zappos and LOVED them! I also had a ton of compliments. They are a great shade of blue (my bridesmaids wore cobalt and that was one of our main colors) and the detail on the toe us cute (my jewelry had both pearls and rhinestones, so it matched perfectly).

I knew I wouldn’t last long in heels, and these were the perfect solution.

I’m an Uggs fan too, yay! I love the sparkly flat but it wouldn’t allow for a peacock clip, so my second vote is for the Ninas.

Hi! How about these? first link is navy blue and the second ones are teal :) Just a suggestion… I’m also planning on wearing flats since my fiancee is only about 4 inches taller than me + I really want to be confortable that day, so flats is it!! :D

I adore the Badgley Mischka flats, as well as the sparkly flats right below them! They are both so awesome! And I was a flats bride and wouldn’t have had it any other way! I was comfy the entire day, and Mr. P liked that I never towered over him.

So I wore these flats (in silver) at our wedding. They come in blue and I love them. They’re my favorite shoes now. They are the Rocket Dog Marilyn Flat in Fabric. They also make a pump and a higher heeled shoe, but I don’t think they come in blue.

I wore that exact pair of Nina’s on my wedding day and I loved them. The small heel and the classic look was perfect for me - they’re my vote!

Not a big shoe girl either. My FI has more pairs than I and most of mine fall into the tennis or boot variety.

I’m probably going with cowboy boots. They add height and will make the dress more flattering, but won’t get stuck in the mud during our outdoor ceremony
