Things Are Getting Hairy

October 25th, 2011 @ 8:27 am by Mrs. Raccoon

And by things, I mean me.

I looked in the mirror today and what I saw looked like the product of a wild night between Bert, Hyde from That 70’s Show, and a billy goat.

OK, OK, so it wasn’t really that bad, but still. Something had to be done. I’m busy and too much of a pain weenie to sit down with a pair of tweezers, so while I was out running errands I had my face threaded.

Painful? A little. In the whole scheme of things it’s not too bad for what’s going on. As I understand it, threading kind of rips hair out at the follicle so it’s long lasting.

Results? A baby smooth but really red face. At least the redness doesn’t stay for long.

One day I might even be brave enough to do my own!

You should never try to thread and shape your own eyebrows … you could mess up bad. It’s ok for clean-ups, but not shape-ups.

A great way to practice is on your leg. You really need to develop a rhythm to have it work at all.

I’ve always wanted to try threading, I didn’t know you could do it yourself.

Oh yeah, I’d hate to lose half a brow to an oops! Thanks Sharmeen for the tip about practicing on legs!

I prefer threading to waxing! I used to get it done all of the time up on Devon in Chicago. Now I am still on the look-out for a good place in LA. I can’t imagine threading my own face!

I’d be so afraid to try threading! I’m too afraid to even tweeze!

I’ve been threading my own eyebrows for about 4 months. I used to get my eyebrows waxed, but then I started on a Differin. It does take some practice, but I’ve gotten pretty good at it. I might be in the minority, but I think it hurts more than waxing. Good luck!

I love threading, though I’m a sucker for the wax job at the Benefit brow bar :)

@Miss Mole: There is a good place in Culver City - I think it’s on Washingon.

You’re brave! I’ve always wanted to try threading, but I haven’t worked up the courage yet.
