About Miss Aardvark

Sour Puss

October 26th, 2011 @ 2:32 pm by Miss Aardvark

I was browsing through the Weddingbee boards when I stumbled on this post. It was a simple “Thank You” to Pronovias for having their models smile in pictures. This is something that has been on my mind for a while… Especially while paging through wedding magazines, I have noticed that many of the models look downright sour! On top of that the ones that don’t look mad, often look downright ridiculous.

Now, I understand being “artsy” and “high fashion” but come on… these are dresses for WEDDINGS! These women should be HAPPY! Or, at the very least, not totally angst ridden. I should preface by saying that I have nothing against the designers or dresses pictured below.

Without further ado, a collection of the funniest/oddest/unhappiest beautiful ladies and what I imagine they are thinking:

“I have to get my hands untied so I can get to my wedding! The evil Count Weddingwrecker will be sorry once I get out of here!”

“Oops! I tooted” or “I think I slipped a disk!”

“Alas… I cannot crane my head any further at this awkward angle…surely my wedding will be ruined.”

“I knew I should not have taken Lunesta last night… How am I going to sleepwalk my way out of this forest and back to the wedding?”

Of course, angsty brides aren’t the only ones having all the (lack of) fun! There seems to be a trend in mother of the bride models to wear  expressions of thinly veiled disdain.

“I can’t believe they went with grey suits after I told them I liked navy…”

“You’re happy with that hairstyle?”

” Oops I tooted!” (I know I should not have used that one twice…) How about, “What do you mean there was fish in those crab cakes?!”

This was all well and good for a laugh, but seriously bridal brands, what’s with all the sour pusses?

Have you noticed this? Have you ever had a “high fashion” picture turn out more silly than serious?

Ha! This is hilarious! My fiance is actually the one who first commented on the bridal model’s faces. For being “brides,” they sure don’t look too happy!! More like sourpuss statues!

I agree. Isn’t your wedding supposed to be the happiest day of your life? Fake it.

Agreed! Before I went dress shopping I tried to get my fiance’s opinion on some dresses and he was really distracted by the modeling! He would be like, I don’t like that one… wait… I don’t know, maybe it’s just because the model looks so miserable. They are not helping themselves sell dresses.

Love it! I never noticed how many models look pensive, unhappy or “spaced out” inthe photos.
I agree, we need more models who look happy and joyous in their wedding gown. Well done!

I agree Miss Aardvark!

Another thing that bothers me about wedding dress pictures is when they’re sitting down, or only half of the dress shows in the picture, or they’re turned at a weird angle so I can only see the side of the dress! HELLO?! I want to see what it looks like people. Standing up. From the front and the back. A side picture is great, as long as it’s accompanied by a front and back picture as well! :-)

Hilarious! This could be a regular series! There are two poses you NEVER see in real life: one where she’s leaning back like a hurricane just came up, and then the ever popular hunched forward, hands on hips, elbows pointed out in front of her like she’s stretching hands and back after too much typing. So ridiculous!

@futureMrsCPT: Ahhh! The sitting pictures drive me crazy! How is it useful to see the bottom 2/3 of the dress crumpled up??

I love that you did a post on this Miss Aardvark, hilarious and SO TRUE!!

When I was getting married there was one brand that posed brides next to statues that closely resembled female anatomy. Then you’d have the bride standing sultry next to it like, “this is what you’ll see on my wedding day…and my wedding night” and it was so awkward.

I was always more drawn to the Jim Hjelm ads where it was like “my wedding is so awesome I collapsed on this couch full of roses and lace but still had time to give you the side eye”.

Thanks for the idea @MissCarnival!

I am glad you guys like these! In college my friend and I used to go through regular fashion mags and caption the crazy fashion ladies. Some things you never out grow!

@therascalqueen, I know exactly the pose y ou are talking about! (You mean you don’t stand around like that?)

So funny, so true! My original dress model photo was so horrible I was embarrassed to share it…she looked like she had the most painful cramps (if you know what I mean)!

Lol, you’re too funny. I also hate how half of them do that weird model thing where they contract and suck their stomach in and round their shoulders. I mean, really? They just look like they have bad posture.

Seriously!! And I second JD193– I basically can’t get any coherent opinions on dresses out of FI because he’s always totally distracted. Not even like “wait, not sure what I think of this because of the model”, but like no comment on the dress, just “what is she doing?!”
