!#%&@$^* : wedding atlanta registry Soapbox

Image via Westminster Blogs

Y’all I’mma fixin’ to get up on my soapbox. And it might get ugly.

I’ve gone the easy route for everything wedding related so far. Let the girls pick the dresses, casual dress code for the dudes, and scribbled addresses on the invites. So for God’s sakes quit asking me why we haven’t registered at Macy’s.

We went a fairly traditional route for the registration process. Target for those that like going to a brick and mortar store. And because they have a super duper wicked return policy. As long as you’re registered there, you can return anything from Target within 90 days of your wedding. Yea, even without a gift receipt. And even if the person forgot to mark that they bought it. And even if it’s not on your registry. If heaven has a smell, it’s got to be a mixture of stale popcorn and Starbucks.

For the younger crowd, and because we were wanting to register for a lot of non-traditional items that Target doesn’t carry, we registered at Amazon. Amazon has been great so far. I get the address and name of the person who sent the gift so I can send thank you cards. Best of all, if I find something online, I can automatically add it with my Universal Registry button on my toolbar.

This is how we were able to register for things like a new rope for climbing and a plastic elephant watering can.

We thought we were being reasonable. But apparently, if you’re getting married in Georgia, it is sacrilege to not register at Macy’s. In that case, this devil’s been down in Georgia for twenty-three years and I’m holding staunch. a) I can’t tell you the last time I’ve been in a Macy’s. b) I’ve heard nothing but horror stories about their return policy. And c) We have two damn registries. If you can’t figure one of ’em out, write us a nice card. I’m getting feisty cause not only have I been scolded numerous times about this, but it was also brought up DURING our shower. WHILE we were opening gifts. Someone thought it necessary to tell us how much we inconvenienced them. Grrrrr…

I’m not bitter.

Anyone else have to pull out the devil horns on something you thought would be easy?

Don’t register at Macy’s!! Friends of ours who got married in July registered there & now tell everyone & anyone not to register there. Their return policy & customer service is deplorable!!! Just let it go in one ear & out the other!

Ugh, I know what you mean! I wanted to register solely through Amazon because our wedding isn’t in the town we currently live. But FH’s parents keep asking if we’re going to also register at a brick and mortar store. Grr..

Stand strong! I have a personal grudge against Macy’s for taking over my Marshall Field’s and Turning the quality to crap.

Yay Target!

I did Macy’s, Kohl’s, and registry 360. Macy’s was a B*&$% to exchange things. They insisted on sending me a check for a few things that i wanted to exchange…same pattern of dishes people! - The customer service lady even had a printout of who bought what, when, and what they paid for it. Think that would make things easy? NOPE. I agree, stay away from Macy’s, you’re not missing anything.

You should register wherever you want, period.

THAT SAID, other bees, I just have to say that I had an awesome experience at Macy’s. I had no problem returning/exchanging anything. Their online registry system is really good and they have a thank you card manager. I got over $300 in credit because of their rewards program which I used to finish my bedding. They have sales ALL the time so my guests bought items at 20-40% off consistently. They either saved money or bought more for us! :O

The only thing I would NOt recommend is registering on site! That would be torture as the store is vast and set up for pretty displays, not comparing goods and making educated and coordinated decisions.

Girl you are barkin’ up my tree! We have had the hardest time trying to pick someplace to register and now that we finally decided on amazon.com, everyone’s demanding Macy’s!

Maybe it’s an Atlanta thing…

P.S. I have that RLand Pray for ATL piece hanging in my kitchen!

Re: quality at Macy’s. I stuck with Le Creuset and All Clad and the big brands that last a lifetime–same stuff as Williams Sonoma! And good luggage and medium-priced bedding… Create a finely edited registry and you don’t have to get crap from Macy’s or Target or Kohls…. Cuz all those places have cheap crap:/

My FMIL cannot understand why I don’t like to shop at Macy’s… let alone why I don’t want a registry there. I don’t shop there mostly because the stuff there isn’t my style or budget. Now that you pointed out possible problems with returns, I’m giving it a big HELL NO.

B*tch it out, girl! Register where you want!

We are not registering at all, and I’m sure I won’t hear the end of it in this lifetime.

Ohhh they need to shove it. Macy’s is for certain people, not for others. I think registering at Amazon makes it about 394072897 times EASIER for people to get you stuff. Just let it go, Skunkers.. they’ll have to figure it out on their own!

And.. I totally want an elephant watering can.

I am SO with Ms. Aardvark on bitterness towards Macy’s for ruining Marshall Fields! It sounds like you were more than reasonable with where you registered, and I totally agree that if they weren’t happy about it, they could have done something else on their own. Not cool, people, not cool!

We only registered to give people ideas of what we may need but as a whole only got a handful of gifts and the rest were cards.

So, clearly I would never be able to hack it as a good “Southern” bee… not that I will ever need to, but DH and I almost moved to TX…. my back woods Indiana butt *hates* seeing people who have registered at Macy’s.

Why? I’m too poor to buy you overprices plates, you do not need a crystal wine cork, and I am going to cringe as I spend $50 on those overpriced mixing bowls you wanted.

We registered at Target, and this happy little Hoosier was able to return everything I didn’t want :D

I am also a grudge holder against Macy’s for turning Marshall Field’s (who took over Dayton’s here in Minnesota) to crap. Honestly, the Macy’s at Mall of America looks and often smells like a trash heap.

The only reason I’d register there is because I really love the Martha Stewart cooking stuff. It’s all so pretty and Tiffany blue!

Can you give me a link to where you found that about Target’s return policy for registries? We were specifically avoiding registering at Target bc of how awful their normal return policy has become over the last year, but if it’s different for registries, I’d love to know!

I have heard rumors of other people complaining about someone not registering at Macy’s… I think those people who shop at Macy’s get deals and sales and they are sad when they can’t take advantage of it? Which, really, is the point of helping your friend/relative with their new life to get the best deal on an item? Good grief. The thing I keep in mind is: if I don’t want it/have duplicates and need to return, WHERE do I know beyond a doubt I will use that store credit? Gotta be realistic, I don’t want to be stuck with $32 of store credit to Macy’s when I never shop there.

we had the same issue. we registered for the stuff we wanted at crate and barrel. and in our taste…but groom’s family was not happy…we registered for a few things at Bed Bath Beyond, and people kept telling us to put more stuff on the registry, because they essentially didn’t like any of the stuff we registered for. um, this may sound super rude but, isn’t it supposed to be what WE want not you all? annnnnyway, i feel your pain!

I live in Georgia, and I wouldn’t DREAM of EVER registering at Macy’s. I registered at Bed Bath & Beyond and Amazon. It’s worked out WONDERFULLY. More power to you, and get to whoopin’ the Devil’s arse back outta Georgia.
