Girls in Dresses

October 27th, 2011 @ 7:02 am by Miss Dalmatian

My bridesmaids are located all over the country. Literally. From west to east, there is one in Arizona, one in Illinois, one in Tennessee, and one in New York! Luckily, since the dress I chose was a retail dress and not something that needed to be ordered, they were each able to get the dress in their respective location.

I really wanted to do my best to make it as easy as possible for them. So, I sent them a very long email with any and all information I thought they might possibly need. I looked up the addresses for the Kate Spade store nearest each of them (don’t I sound like a commercial right now?) if they wanted to try it on in person. I also sent links to a few websites where they could buy it online (Zappos, Bloomingdale’s, etc.) and included the return/exchange policies. I offered to get the dress for them and send it to them. I also attached the sizing chart for the dress and a reference picture. I really hope I came across as helpful as opposed to overbearing and that I made it more convenient as opposed to more overwhelming!

They each opted for option #1 and went to the store in their city to buy their dress. This ended up being very fun for me because, over the next week or so, I got some very fun emails and text messages of their shopping successes!

Bridesmaid E, Bridesmaid M, and MOH A sporting their dresses!

Since MOH K was my lovely model during our shopping adventure, including the final decision, I did not get a picture from her (my bad for not taking one of her in it at the store). We definitely made the right decision—look at how cute they look! I can’t wait to have them stand beside me on my wedding day.

Was having your bridesmaids get their dresses a smooth process?

I am gaining a reputation as the least controlling bride on earth (which is saying something as I’m a bit of a control freak in general) because I have a single criteria for the dresses I wanted my ladies to purchase:

Black.

That’s it. The rest is up to them as individuals. Any length, any style, any shape, any fabric, any vendor–anything goes. As long as they love it and feel beautiful in it, go for it.

My flowers are bright and colorful, so they can each pick out a shoe (again, style unimportant to me) in a different color that matches the feel of their respective dress.

They’ve all picked out very different dresses that happen to be perfect for each of them–and still look fantastic as a group.

Beautiful!! I’ve started drafting my brideslady email and will be doing something similar - telling them what I’m going for, pointing out the closest stores to them, etc. I don’t think you could have made it much easier on your girls.. they all look great!

They all look so amazing in those dresses! Kudos for picking something so flattering. And I imagine your girls will get more than one use out of this dress, which is always a plus! Now to get myself one….

We’re using Aria which has a try-on-at-home program. A friend used it for her wedding this summer and said it was a breeze.

I bet your bridesmaids were so happy that you did all of that work to make this an easier process for them!

FYI i hope you see this! Katespade.com is having a huge 1 day sale today and the jillian is literally only $159.. .and I think it’s the color your girls need… I saw the sale, screamed for excitement then saw the jillian and remembered your post…

@futuremrsbrunell: Ahh! Unfortunately the dresses are all already purchased. But thank you so much for the tip! I am definitely going to check it out - there’s also more Kate Spade items that I seem to “need” :)
