About Mrs. Teacup

3,700. The number of times we have typed “dress regret” on the Weddingbee boards. Why was I oblivious to this potential pitfall until it actually happened to me? After choosing the “Cambridge” I was done looking, or so I thought.

I mustered the courage to finally introduce myself on the boards and post a dress photo. Perhaps you remember my sassy avatar and if it’s out on the internet, it must be truth, right?

Then IT happened.

By IT I’m referring to the union of Vera Wang and David’s Bridal. Maybe you remember when Vera captivated the wedding world in early February by launching her “White” line to be sold exclusively at DB. If you so much as sneezed near a bridal blog you couldn’t have missed IT…IT was everywhere.

My knowledge about Vera Wang wedding gowns was limited to two facts: 1) she was a high-end designer and 2) outside my price point. I knew nothing of her esthetic or influence. I also had a horrible store experience at DB years ago, so I had zero interest in IT.

But the press, commentary and critique never seemed to end. Alright already, what’s the big freaking deal?! I gave in, clicked over to the DB website and there IT was. My. Heart. Stopped.

WTH?!? I felt hot. My heart was pounding and I thought I might puke or pass out. I had never experienced a reaction like this and for a dress?!? I wanted to jump up and down and scream out loud. What was happening to me?!? IT was nothing like my dress choice, save the fit-and-flare silhouette. IT had that voluminous skirt. IT was pink, for goodness sakes. IT was love at first sight.

I tried to resist, and it took me a week to figure it out. IT one, Teacup zero.

Did you discover dress regret? When did you know your first dress choice wasn’t “the one”? Did you stick with your initial pick or go with your gut for the new gown? How did your final decision affect your feelings—were you happy with IT?

I had the same reaction to my dress. I had picked one out, because I was six months out with no dress and felt like I needed to make a decision. It was fine, I liked it enough. Then, Mom came into town and we decided we should look again. I was sure we were wasting time until the dress SHE just found was clipped onto me.
Sorry, other dress. THIS was the one :)

I had dress regret for a little while. I bought a dress I loved - and still love - that has become IT. My dress #2 had to be ordered in at another boutique - especially for me - and I couldn’t wait so I went for dress #1. After a lot of back and forth, I know the dress I bought is the one for me. It is more classic, elegant and suits my personality. I would say give it a few months - - you may change your mind.

Ack! It’s SO ridiculously pretty!!! Fortunately, even though I’ve been staring at other dresses, I have not at that feeling. I think you made the best choice, teacup!

I had dress regret, then after my second fitting I fell in love again, and now after my final fitting i have worse dress regret than ever. I honestly had to tell my MOH to get it off me as fast as she could and I almost started crying. I am REALLY hoping I change my mind once my hair and makeup are done, all my jewelry is on, and I have my veil in my hair. I am freaking out. My dress, which I originally loved, makes me feel short and fat. I am 5′9″ so how it makes me feel short I do not know. I do, however, now regret only trying on three dresses and thinking I found THE ONE.

It’s a beautiful dress!

I had a little bit of dress regret, too, but it was after-the-fact. I loved my dress, but I’d really wanted one with straps and a v-neck, which I didn’t get in favor of a particular fabric/gold lace/whatever. When my dress turned out to be too big day-of (seriously), I was annoyed with myself for not getting straps. I never like wearing strapless dresses, and I didn’t like wearing one on my wedding day! Oh well. :)

I found the perfect dress for my casual-romantic small town courthouse wedding. Then my fiance confessed he’d rather do an informal chapel wedding. My first dress would have been “OK,” but I couldn’t help myself when I kept trying on new dresses and found IT. Now the 1st dress will be a nice outfit our our honeymoon cruise!

I didn’t have any dress regret, but I was afraid I would after I bought it. It sat in my friend’s closet for so many months I was sure once it came out and I put it on, I’d be all NOOOOO. But yours is gorgeous! I don’t blame you one bit for switching gears.

That dress is amazing. And if that’s the reaction you had, I would say that’s one heck of a reaction. That’s definitelyl when you know it’s the one! It’s so beautiful and it’s everything you were looking for. I so happy you chose a dress that makes you happy and not everyone else.

It’s such a beautiful dress, and you look wonderful in it!
My only regret was not making an alterations appointment the week of the wedding, I dropped too much weight and my dressed didn’t fit as I anticipated.

Sigh….I had dress regret, bought a second dress, and sold the first one. I loved them both and am still not sure that I wore the right one.

NOW, the dresses out now are so different from when I was shopping a year ago–I swear can’t believe it. There are so many in my price range I would have loved to have considered.

Vera Wang at DB happened just weeks too late for me. The spring WToo’s (so affordable and beautiful) happened in the nick of time, but now when I see the fall ones…sigh…

I remember seeing your dress regret posts way back in the day, before we were blogging! As gorgeous as your first dress is, I can totally understand why you had massive regret when you saw IT!

I only tried on four dresses, this Vera in ivory being the third. I knew this was the dress when the sales lady zipped it up, but I was completely sold when my mom and sister both teared up. I panic sometimes when I think about how maybe I should have looked more, and then I think about my dress and see other brides wearing it, and I know it’s perfect for me!

I’m so glad that you found a dress that gave you such an emotional reaction! I don’t have any dress regret — and I’d like to keep it that way for the next three months! Besides the blog, I’ve avoided looking at any of the new collections just in case. :)

I had dress regret. When to David’s to try on a Vera dress, they didn’t have it, and I wound up buying another. As soon as I got it home, I didn’t want it.

I had to avert my eyes from the Vera Wang White line after I bought my dress. But, I think you made the perfect decision. :)

Yes, I had dress regret too, although I was lucky enough that I had yet to place a deposit down (phew) I had been dreaming about this Justin Alexander dress since January and I tried it on and loved it! Then I left the store…and started having doubts, so now I am back to dress shopping to see if I can find anything to top it and that way I will know for sure if it’s the right dress.
