My Clear Skin Regimen

October 31st, 2011 @ 8:05 am by Miss Doe

Makeup does wonders, but it can only go so far. When I have a bad breakout, I have never been a fan of covering it up with loads of concealer. On me, it just makes it look worse. Which means clear skin is a priority for me.

I have to say, my skin has never been all that terrible. However, I have my serious issues with it from time to time. I get those awful, what I like to call “underground,” pimples that are very painful. Then it takes nearly a week and a half to clear up. I am incredibly nervous that my skin will not be clear come May.

A few months back I started to notice how perfectly clear my sister’s skin is. My sister has dealt with skin issues and so it was very obvious how incredible her skin looked. I asked her what the heck she did to make it so clear. She said she started using the acne 3 step program from Clinique.

{Isn’t she beautiful? And look how clear her skin is!}

Hold the phone…seriously?

I have always used Clinique face makeup products for as long as I can remember. (Although my eyelids belong to MAC.) I think it is because my mom always used their face makeup products, so in turn, I did as well. They truly make a product that keeps skin in mind. I had seen the acne 3 step program before, so why did I never think to try it out?

I went ahead and ordered the acne 3 step program to get started. This is the skin that I started with. Don’t laugh at me; I look a little rough after a long day and no makeup. I have those painful “undergrounds” and smaller ones that aren’t quite visible..but they are there, I swear!

{This is Halloween, so here is my attempt to scare ya a little.}

As soon as the products arrived I began using it as directed. Three steps in the morning and three steps in the evening. I even bought the emergency gel lotion, just in case.

Here is my skin after just 3 days of use.

I think I am in love. This product worked wonders for me. Not only did it clear up my skin, but it has also prevented future breakouts. If I use the product the way it is suppose to be used, I do not have any breakouts. This means I can be confident that I will have clear skin from here on out and through the wedding. (I really hope I did not just jinx myself.)

Now as far as price goes, it is more expensive than drugstore products such as Clean and Clear. I will say that it is less expensive than some of the other acne products on the market. You can by the kit which comes with slightly smaller bottles, but still a decent size, for $32.50. Or you can buy the big bottles separately which come to about $50 total. You can even buy the bar soap instead of the foam pump which is made out of the same ingredients, but it is $4 cheaper and lasts much longer. I find that they last a little over 3 months before I need to order more. In my opinion, you absolutely get your money’s worth.

Clinique has a clear skin guarantee where if your skin does not clear up and you are not satisfied, they will refund your money. As a consumer, this proves to me that they are confident in their product. No need to convince me though, because I am a Clinique-lifer now.

I also promise I am not a spokesperson, just a very happy acne-free customer.

Do you have adult acne? What products have seemed to help you the most?

Thanks for the review of Clinique’s program! I use a combination of Kiehl’s and St. Ives on my skin.

Thanks for the review. I am 42 and still have acne. What’s up with that? Wrinkles and acne! No fair!!! LOL

I was at the Clinique counter 2 months ago for some foundation and the sales lady tried talking me into the acne system but I thought it was just her trying to make a higher sale. Now I’m thinking I should try the stuff. She told me it works best with the Clarisonic. Do you use that? I have only heard good things about it.

Did the products dry out your skin at all? I have the same issue you do, BUT I also have naturally dry skin. With that in mind, most acne geared products have the drying effect… which I don’t need. =[

I also have the emergency acne gel - that is a lifesaver! As you said, it’s not only the appearance of acne, it’s sometimes very painful. I’m in love with the emergency gel, I could never find anything else like it.

You’re skin looks great! I, too, am a fan of MAC’s eyeshadows, it’s all I use. But for skin products, I turn to Clinique.

Well, aren’t you the cutest thing? What a healthy glow you have, so happy you found something that worked for you!

I sailed all the way through my teenage years and college with nary a skin issue–a pimple was a rare occurrence and a quick dab of OTC zit cream cleared it up.

Then I had my son, and at 24 years old suddenly developed adult acne and an impressive case of rosaecea–and I’ve struggled with my skin ever since.

I’ve found skin care products that work well with my skin, but for me the turning point to better skin was a tool, not a product. After nearly a year of being intrigued by, researching, coveting one, I bit the bullet and ponied up the cash for a Clarisonic Facial cleanser–and I’m so glad I did.

The level of cleaning it delivers allows my skin care products to work more effectively, and I’ve seen pore shrinkage and greatly reduced breakouts, and improved skin texture and less redness. I even use less of the products I already love each day.

As Ferris Bueller once said: If you have the means, I highly recommend.

:)

@Marciday: Yay! Another Clinique fan :)
@Miss Mole: Oh man…LOVE Kiehl’s lip gloss!
@luvmyDwight: You definitely should give it a shot. And like I said, if you aren’t happy with it…take it back and they will refund your money. I haven’t tried Clarisonic, but it sounds like I should!
@tbowling15: If I use too much of the emergency gel then yes my skin will dry out a little…but that also means it is zapping the problem area. However the last step of the 3 step is a moisturizer…so that helps. I haven’t had too much of an issue with drying out. But I believe they suggest backing off on the toner if you start to dry out a little. OR once you have your face cleared up, use their amazing yellow moisturizer. It is so wonderful and moisturizing.
@RR: Yup, the emergency gel works wonders. Even Mr. Buck uses it.
@quesarasara: I LOVE you for quoting Ferris Bueller haha…that cracked me up. One of my favorite parts because he says it so seriously haha. But yes, I will have to give Clarisonic a try…

Do you find it dry’s out your skin?? I used the Nutrogena Skin ID program and it stopped the pimples but dried my skin out so bad it was peeling!

I’ve always dealt with breakouts as well and had a pretty nice complexion until about a month before the wedding. Naturally I freaked out and looked for a new acne system that wasn’t proactiv. So I tried this! It was wonderful and worked super quick. My complexion wasn;t completely flawless for the wedding but it actually looked pretty good!!

I recommend it too!

I love Clinique! I have never tried the 3 step program but I am a major fan of their make-up products (although apparently my favorite City-base foundation is being discontinued) and their moisturizing lotion.

Wow, your skin looks amazing! What a great product! I’m so bad when it comes to my skin–I only wash it when I’m in the shower, and I just use shampoo! I’m terrible. :(

Yeaa, you just sold me. I had pretty good skin all the way until I went on BC about five years ago. Since then, my skin has been so unpredictable and I still haven’t found good products to keep it clear. My skin is definitely becoming a bigger concern as the wedding gets closer.. buying this stuff with my next paycheck!!
