One of the more difficult pre-wedding to-dos was creating a program for our ceremony. I was happy to just not have any, I do, he does, we kiss, nothing really out of the normal right? However, this was one of the things that Zeb wanted and since he let me do whatever I wanted while planning, I conceded.
I was lucky in that I had held on to some programs from weddings we had attended previously. St. Peter and Paul Cathedral had also given us a small packet of information on how to build a ceremony. Also, my wedding planning book had some suggestions as well. Armed with those three resources, I created our ceremony.
The first page had our names, a cleverly hidden Incubus lyric, the date, and church. The fourth page listed our parents, grandparents, and wedding party. You can imagine the first and last pages were the easiest.
The second and third pages were the meat and bones of our ceremony. You already know from my previous entries what songs I chose for the processional.
Mr. PF’s wedding gift is something that I have put a lot of time and effort, but not so much money into.

In case you haven’t noticed by now, I have a super dry sense of humor. I’m also overly realistic. Mr. Porcupine likes to remind me that I am using the wrong “tic,” and that in reality I am overly pessimistic. Whatever, such a literalist. If I had only gotten a degree in psychology I might have been able to pinpoint a new disorder with lots of grant-funded research that I like to call: Negative Nelly Syndromatic Psychosis. (Yes, I completely made that crap up.)
The thing is, yes, Mr. P is probably right. I don’t know why the hell I’m like this. I haven’t had enough bad crap happen to me in life to be sooo jaded (minus that time I got laid off twice in 1 and 1/2 years, and that other time I got mugged the eve of Christmas Eve—so what if I’m Jewish, Jesus was pissed!). Obviously this is a really fun mentality to have wired into your DNA when you’re a bride.
Basically I will find one little detail of my life that is pissing me off and hold that over every other good thing going on. Suddenly everything positive is immediately discounted.

VEGAS, baby! Our newest bee hails from LA and is getting married in Sin City! Say hello and happy Wednesday to Miss Mole!

Miss Mole, Los Angeles/Las Vegas
Age & Occupation: 29, Test Prep Instructor
Fiance’s Age & Occupation: 31, User Experience Architect
Engagement Date: April 2011
Wedding Date: January 2012
Venue: Wynn Las Vegas/Bouchon Bistro
About Me: I’m a Wisconsinite-turned-Angeleno who is planning a destination wedding in Las Vegas. I am passionate about education: I spent 23 (!) consecutive years in school, and now I work to help other people get into graduate programs. I love running on the treadmill, buying bath products from Lush, learning new moves in step aerobics, and exploring my neighborhood on foot. I am sometimes snobby about food, but I am rarely snobby about books. I read everything from Geoffrey Chaucer to Iris Murdoch to Chuck Klosterman to Candace Bushnell. My fiance and I are getting married on our third anniversary. We have lived together in three different states and survived three different moves, including one that was cross-country. We also live with our three year old greyhound, Tom Boonen. Apparently, I should start playing multiples of three on the roulette table. After all, I sure hit it big with my fiance!

I’m pretty excited to share this wedding with you guys. I was in the interesting position of attending a wedding with my friend—you may remember her from my wedding recaps as MOH Deniz—who was visiting from New York to go to this wedding. I tagged along as her plus-one, even though I didn’t really know anyone there. It was the perfect wedding to crash, as the vibe was so relaxed and welcoming that I didn’t feel too out of place. And I got the chance to really observe instead of really participating—good for journalistic reasons, I suppose!
I love the fact that the bride and groom did both their save the dates and invites by video.

You guys were wondering what to get us for the wedding, weren’t you? I mean…the guests were wondering. What do you get for a couple who already lives together in a small one-bedroom apartment, who might be moving and selling off all of their possessions in a couple years, and who are traveling 7,000 kilometers to the wedding and might not have the most room in their suitcases for gifts?

OK, it’s kind of tacky to straight up ask for money. But I do not want any of these:

Included in our rental fee for our venue is a plethora of tables, both rectangular and circular. When I discovered this I immediately knew I wanted to do long banquet-type tables. But I don’t like the word banquet, so I’m just going to stick with referring to them as long tables.

Our venue is more rectangular in shape and kind of narrow, so the long tables fit the flow of the building better. Using all 15 long tables, it provides seating for right around 130 people. Depending on where our final guest count comes in, we have the space and option to add a few round tables as well. I can be obsessive about things, and in my head I don’t see round tables—I only see long tables…but a back-up plan is always good, right? Our venue was very affordable; affordable is good, but because it was affordable the tables and chairs are very generic. Read: no Chiavari chairs for Miss Honey. As much as I’d like to whine about this reality, there’s just no other option, so I’ve accepted it and moved on.
So many people have cute sendoffs!

One of the many reasons I have thoroughly enjoyed wedding planning thus far is that I come from a family of planners. We thrive on schedules. We are lost without our calendars. We love itineraries…no seriously, we LOVE itineraries. So, when it was time to go dress shopping (Bah! I couldn’t believe it was time to go dress shopping!), we developed a very detailed, very awesome plan.
I had a little break in the middle of my last semester of nursing school, so we decided to take the opportunity to go to New York to visit family and, of course, to shop for wedding dresses!
Now, if you are anything like me, you hear the words “New York” and “wedding dresses” and a certain store pops into mind:
Kleinfeld, however, was not on our itinerary. My budget would have allowed for me to look at the lower end of their selection, but I was a hoping for a shopping experience that was a little more intimate and a little less television-worthy.
Thank you cards!

You knew I had to sneak one more project in there! Yes, I handmade our thank you cards and they were super easy to make, especially when paired with a pint of Shiner and episodes of SVU.
One of the millions of things we love about our venue is that catering is included. Everything is cooked and prepared by Susan, one half of the Vanper Inn’s husband-wife ownership team (another reason we love it—it’s family own and run!). Since they don’t technically have a “full service kitchen” and thus need to prepare food über-fresh the day of and is specific to each event, they don’t do formal, traditional tastings.
What they do have are these super fun Monday Night Supper Clubs almost every week. The theme of each dinner varies, but Susan typically makes a multi-course family style meal for whoever decides to attend that week (usually locals). When we signed our contract with the venue, we were told that we were more than welcome to attend one (or several!) of these dinners free of charge to count as our “tasting” of sorts. The idea is that you get a feel for the food as a whole, even if you aren’t getting those exact menu items for your wedding. Think of it as when you go to restaurant; you only try one or two dishes, but you can definitely tell whether a place makes fantastic food or not based off of that meal. Same deal at the Vanper!

So back in June, Foxy and I decided to visit the venue again for two reasons.

October 18th is kind of a big-deal day. For one, in 1867, the United States took possession of Alaska.

Greetings, everyone! We’re back with another great honeymoon, this time for Mr. and Miss Honey. The Honeys requested a trip to a beach in Florida with a budget of $2,000. I guess they want to head somewhere warm after their winter wedding! South Beach in Miami sounds like the perfect destination. There’s no shortage of awesome stuff to do in Miami, so I hope this trip satisfies their thirst for adventure.
Where To Go

Since Mr. Honey likes to ride motorcycles, I think a fantastic way to get to know the city would be to take a motorcycle tour. The tours come with one Harley motorcycle and two helmets and take place around the city at day or night, or you can even zoom along the beach.
