Family history has been something that has always intrigued me. I am in love with family heirlooms, names, ancestry, and most of all, where we all came from. My grandma is particularly interested in this as well. In fact, she has traced back our family so far that it blows my mind. I could sit for hours and listen to all that she has discovered. My grandpa has the most interesting and funny stories about my past relatives as well. He is a fantastic story teller.
I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to know and very much love my great grandparents. They have since passed, but are incredibly important to me and I knew I had to include them somehow. When my family found out I was looking for something to honor them by, they all came to the rescue. Each of my great grandparents had very long and loving marriages.
My grandma is letting me use her mother’s ring at the wedding. Funny story about how my great grandparents met.

As y’all know, Mr. Skunk is still in Madison. This was the first weekend that, aside from work, I have nothing planned.

Pretty much the instant Mr. Foxy and I got engaged, I ran out to buy a bajillion wedding magazines and started researching venues. I quickly realized that weddings are waaay more expensive than I thought they were. I mean, I knew they could be pricey, but couldn’t I do a great wedding with all the fixins near DC for under $10,000?
Oh shut up, Nelson.

There are so many parts and details to any given wedding, it must be assumed that some are totally superfluous. For me, one detail I really don’t care about is flowers. I think flowers are lovely. We are getting married right after Easter, and the church will be full of them. However, I just cannot justify them as a major budget item. I have plans for flowerless centerpieces (more on that later) and am currently working through flower alternatives for the wedding party.
For the groom, his men, and our fathers, I have found this lovely how-to thanks to Ms. Ferris Wheel and intend to make my own version of these boutonnières for the big day. They can be made in advance, won’t cost an arm and a leg, and should stand up to a full day of hugs and dancing without looking smooshed or wilty.
