I did it anyway. And now I have less than zero confidence in weather forecasters (no offense, meteorological bees!), and a whole heap of anxiety about the weather.

October 21st Weather Prediction / Screen shot from Weather.com
When I first started writing this post (on 10-21-2011) this was the forecast from Weather.com, whom I thought was the #1 weather authority. They themselves changed their mind about my wedding day weather no less than 5 times on October 21st, going from mostly cloudy to partly cloudy to scattered showers (the horror!) to mostly cloudy. Yes, I checked it, like, twenty seven times. What, is that a lot or something?
You might be thinking “Why are you freaking out, Magic? You are always so stressed! Take a chill pill, yo, that weather forecast looks fine!”
On a blustery morning we got together to rehearse! We couldn’t rehearse at our actual venue since there was an event going on. Instead we all met up on the other side of the fence at Jericho Beach early on a Friday morning.

Our amazing marriage commissioner ran through the bones of the ceremony and told us all where to stand and what to do.

Guess what? You’re all a bunch of ESP bees. Seriously!
See, earlier today I got an email from a friend’s MOH reminding me that I still owed my share of the bridal shower fund, which is ultimately being paid for by her and us five other bridesmaids. I made a mental note, then did what any good employbee does during their last few minutes of downtime and checked the Weddingbee blog and boards. Obviously.
Lo and behold, a post titled Average Cost of Being a Bridesmaid?? was up towards the top and I clicked my way right over. Seeing as my friend’s upcoming wedding will be the first one I’ll be a bridesmaid in (unless you count my mom’s or that time I was a flower girl in 2nd grade), I was incredibly intrigued by everyone’s response to the question. I already knew that, from my current experience, costs can add up pretty fast.
Running Elly kicked off the thread by mentioning an article that stated that the average cost of a being a bridesmaid is somewhere around the $1700 mark. My first reaction was “aw heck no” but then…I started thinking about my current and upcoming costs for this wedding I am going to be in. I’m already up to $525, and that just covers dress and bridal shower. Oh dear.
Jeannine @ Small Chic soon posted a fantabulous chart that backed up the $1700 price point that I must share with you:

While Zeb and I were busy taking formal portraits every which way with our families, our bridal party was having a little fun with our second shooter.
I squealed with delight when I first opened the CD of pictures that Sara had given me after the wedding. I had no idea the bridal party had taken these goofy photos. I love them so much that they take up a two page spread in our wedding album. Fan-freakin-tastic.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
MOH K had been amazingly patient and tried on MANY dresses for me. Unfortunately, even my favorites among them calmly stated “pretty good” as opposed to screaming “perfect!” Despite my desire to make a decision and move on to the next task, pretty good was simply not good enough.
Enter Kate Spade. You may recall that my shoes are Kate Spade. She has rapidly become my biggest designer weakness. I just love how everything is so classy and still so fun! In fact, one of her dresses had been the subject of an email I sent to my mom that read, “The Perfect Bridesmaids’ Dress.” Yes, that’s right—I used the P-word! Unfortunately, the price tag on this amazing little number was not quite as pretty as the lovely floral fabric.

In between describing our ceremony and reception, I took a little break to show you some of our favorite wedding details.
Unintentionally (or subconsciously?) we ended up with a music and photography-themed wedding. We definitely did not set out to do this, but there it is. In putting together all my wedding details to show you, I figured that I would group the photography-related ones into one post.
Heritage Photo table:
This is something I’d seen in several weddings—the idea of a table with older family photos on it. I decided to do this several months before the wedding, but didn’t really get into it until about two weeks prior. I started out shopping at Marshall’s and TJMaxx, and bought a bunch of pretty frames that I knew would go with the venue’s decor.
My husband really got into the act, and we ended up getting a bunch of photos of both sides of the family and a few guests, who were surprised to see themselves on the table. Then, I went to my hard drives, grabbed any photo I had of “couples” that would be attending the wedding, and printed and framed them. Actually, my husband framed them. Thanks, Husband!

Hive, today we checked one of the biggies off our wedding to-do list…but it did not go at all as I had imagined. We got Mr. Aardvark’s suit ordered. YAY.
However, we have no pictures! This is not because I did not take my camera, or because I failed to take pictures… It is because we ended up ordering a suit based on a swatch of fabric and a couple of questions. It didn’t hit me until after we left that we never even saw what this suit would look like! Madness!
To rewind a bit, we are not going with tuxedos for our guys. Mr. Aardvark is wearing a suit. (Hopefully a three piece.) His groomsmen will wear some sort of vest and pants-type set-up. We are still not sure what our dads will wear. It has never occurred to me that they would wear something besides the same suit they wear to all of their fancy obligations…but maybe they should.
I digress. Mr. Aardvark is a bit taller than average and quite a bit leaner than average. Here is a little reminder:

My little sister got married last month, and I was her maid of honor. It was an absolutely wonderful wedding. The weather for their outdoor ceremony was perfect, she looked stunning in her white gown, her groom got misty-eyed when he saw her for the first time. I was honored to stand up beside her, holding her bouquet and rearranging her dress, on one of the most important days of her life. I don’t think that I stopped smiling once.

Later, I was honored to stand up and give a speech at the reception. Generally, I can keep my cool pretty well in front of large groups. I can act confident even if I am not. (It really helps that I taught speech and debate last year to a bunch of squirrely high school students.) So the most that I was nervous about was flubbing a line or two. What I should have been nervous about, however, was the waterworks. That’s right. Within 30 seconds of starting my speech, I broke down in tears. And then proceeded to cry throughout the rest of the speech. Mr. Mole told me later that I had all of the mothers in the audience in tears as well, so I should count that as a successful MOH speech.
In one of my early posts I mentioned that Mr. Ticket and I met playing World of Warcraft. For those of you that need a refresher… I alluded to the fact that there would be at least one treasure commemorating this little detail of how our love story began and it’s finally here! Seriously, I’m just beyond stoked. I’m sure that this will seem cheesy to some of you; heck, Mr. Ticket kind of laughed at me a little when I showed it to him, but I love it!
I showed you a while back that our kids’ buckets will include VIP tags with a semi-Disneyfied drawing of Mr. Ticket and me. In keeping with the theme of drawn Tickets I sought out the assistance of friends. Well… brother-in-law of a friend… whatever…he’s awesome. So without further ado…

If you haven’t noticed by now, my hair is of the curly variety. I am incredibly worried about my hair on my wedding day. For good reason, too. Let me give you some background information so you can fully understand my concern. Today I present to you the trials and tribulations of this Doe’s hair. Or, in other words, my fur.
Might I add that this was difficult posting a few of these photos. They are by no means flattering photos of me. However, I have learned to laugh at myself. Therefore, in the name of blogging, I proudly and humbly present to you the story of my hair—hang on tight.
1. The adorable years started when I was just a little fawn. I had what some considered to be hair reminiscent of Shirley Temple (who I love, by the way).

When I first thought of wedding shoes, I thought “mmm, k.”
I am not a shoe girl. I have never paid more than maybe 75 bucks for a pair of dressy shoes. I think the most expensive pair of shoes I own are my UGGs. Does that count? And, yes, I don’t care how “uggly” they are, I love me some UGGs.
Early on in planning I decided I wanted my something blue to be my shoes. Plus, factoring in our peacock/blue color scheme I thought it made a lot of sense.
Apparently I am unconsciously trying to BE Carrie Bradshaw on my wedding day (minus the part where my groom loses his ish and ditches me, only to propose later with some Manolos), because not only did she have the blue shoes, but she also had that peacock thing going on.

After finding a few flower tutorials on Google, I was playing with my newly purchased (extremely expensive) Swiss fabric. Before I knew it, I had crafted this little beauty:
Ohh bees, I fell for this adorable little flower and wanted to make more. My fingers craved the tactile comfort found in sewing and I opened up to a craft I haven’t been able to undertake since I moved to Switzerland. The most sewing I’ve done in the last three years was when I made curtains for our flat on an old secondhand sewing machine. (And that was mainly done to avoid buying expensive Swiss curtains!)

I’ve heard all over the hive how lovely Etsy is. I have always agreed, but I haven’t had much luck. I turned to Etsy to find a cheaper alternative to my dream veil. So far, no one has replied to my custom order requests, or the replies had price offers that were no better than what I was going to get from the bridal shop.
But when I gave up on my veil, the possibilities started opening up. Etsy is the perfect place to find great gifts for your wedding party! I’ve got a huge wedding party. It’s really, really, really big. Yet I still want to gift these amazing people who have decided to be a part of our wedding. I just don’t want to spend an amount equivalent to the cost of our flowers or honeymoon.
Etsy has a ton of options, and just by browsing around, I’ve found some amazing ideas for gifts. It’s like they knew I was coming! I knew I didn’t want to give the gifts in a plain old paper gift bag, I wanted to give their gifts in a bad they could use again, a bag that would be another gift in and of itself. Seller Personalized Gifts by J had a bunch of options that I like.
